Tribe- I'm not all familiar with the SHL being from Chillicothe, but I remember reading a lot about those 4 players. They're going to make a huge impact at a d3 college in Mount St. Joseph, won't they?

Re: Where the 11-12 Seniors are going
I expect all four of them to compete from day one. Travis and Jake both had opportunities to play for D2 schools and could both potentially start right away, Jordan Payne is a strong/smart gaurd who will be effective in their system and will see good time, and Jordan Mitchell will step in and be one of the best shooters on the squad from the get go. All these guys played AAU together and are good friends so Mount St. Joe was a pretty easy choice when they found out they would have an opportunity to play together at the next level. Ryan Gallenstein from St. Patrick(KY) was on their AAU team as well and will be joining them at MSJ. Overall this was a great class for the Mount and their new coaching staff. They should move several spots up the conference standings next season.peytonhillis wrote:Tribe- I'm not all familiar with the SHL being from Chillicothe, but I remember reading a lot about those 4 players. it will be interesting to see if the 4 shl kids at mt st jos stay there. it will also be interesting to see if the southerrn state players from out of the area stick around as well. wouldn't surprise me to see at least two of the mt st jo recruits back at southern state at the end of the semester or next year.
are there any shl kids playing at southern state this season? this mink guy who is an asst at southern state where did he come from?

Re: Where the 11-12 Seniors are going
I was the Varsity coach at Westfall last year. In 2008-2009, Travis McAvene was the head coach and I was his assistant. We are back together at Southern State. The only SHL player on our roster is Logan Perkins from Ripley. I've always enjoyed watching the SHL when scouting. The kids from that league are typically high basketball IQ kids that enjoy playing defense. Hoping to catch some games this year to check out the talent around the league. I'm familiar with Peebles since we played them last year in the tournament but am not familiar with the rest of the talent around the league.

coach mink,
where are your current players from? in the past players from out of the area have had a hard time making it into the second semester. how do you remedy this? where do you house them?

Re: Where the 11-12 Seniors are going
Current eligible players-11
3 from Louisville, KY
2 from Columbus, OH
1 from Kenosha, Wisconsin
1 from Ripley
1 from Ashland, KY
2 from Hillsboro, OH
1 from Sandusky, OH
We have 5 practice players of which 3 could be eligible 2nd semester
We have stressed grades and the fact that Coach McAvene can get them to the next level if they get the grades and buy in. Kids coming from out of the area are pairing up in apartments and really bonding together. We are hoping this will assist with their school work as well as team chemistry. I would think when kids spend the time and money to relocate and pay out of state tuition that they would make sure to get the grades so money isn't wasted. Let's hope that's the case!
