TribeManiac10: You really didn't show any disrespect toward Jayllen.......but there are many outside of Portsmouth who may not be aware of how this kid has improved in such a short period of time......he really was outstanding in the tournament. I think Jayllen will handle being the main option just fine, but like any good player needs a supporting cast around him.

Dion and Wayne, as far as I know, are still scheduled to play at Clermont.........I haven't recently heard anything to the contrary.

Some outstanding players in the SVC who are talented and worth a mention, even though they are on the outside of this discussion.

Piketon's big 3 that Coach Lisath mentioned. All can take over games and if even 2 are going, the Streaks are going to very tough to stop.

Zane Trace's Mr. Efficient Wes Beam. Averaged 17 and 10 last year on 74% shooting and also added a couple blocks a game. Should be the focal point of the offense as a senior this season.

Unioto's Chase Detillion and Westfall's Alek Stonerock are another couple bigs in the league who averaged close to double-double's when healthy as well.

Southeastern's sophomore PG Dylan Miles is going to be a star in the district and I think will gain some fans any time he's on the court.

There are 3 outstanding freshmen in the league that will have a good chance to be mentioned in a couple years and will all likely play big minutes this season.

My top 5:
Zac Carter
Chase Lawson
Zach Johnson
Trey Fletcher
Zach Farmer

Trent Arey, Evan French, and Austin McBee are all very close. I haven't gotten the chance to see Chad Lands and I'm excited to see Jayllen Carter as the go-to man this season.

I think it might take him a few games to get use to being the main option after playing with McKinley and Evans last year who both had their opponent's best defensive players on them every game. Being the main option means more touches but it also means more attention from the defense. I am amazed at the job Coach Collins has done and from the sound of their summer ball they will be very competitive again even after losing some great players. It seems like someone keeps stepping up and I won't be surprised to see Carter do it this year. Tribe it won't surprise me to see Peebles have another fine season either. Losing Daniels has to hurt but I look for Arey and Justice to have good seasons.
I agree, I think Peebles will have another good year. We will not have much height after losing Jake to graduation but we will have the pieces, as you said, to win our fair share of games. Other guys like Josh Chandler and Tyler Gray(not sure if he will be playing this season though) stepped up in the tournament against Zane Trace's Wes Beam when Jake was limited to a quarter of playing time due to foul trouble so I think we will have the ability to limit bigger teams despite our tallest player being a 6'3" guard(Tyler Porter). They should be right in the mix with North Adams and Eastern Brown for the SHL Big Division title.

I agree about Peebles being successful again this year, 90% of rebounding is fundamentals and desire.

This cracks me up....asking posters like they are an authority on basketball. If you only knew to whom you were asking you would be laughing. Having a roster doesn't make one an authority on basketball, but it must make others believe otherwise. Funny stuff...keep it coming!

Any top list of players in Southeastern Ohio has got to include Evan French from Warren Local. The 6'4" junior shoot the 3 ball as well as anybody in the district. A natural leader last season on a senior laden team as a sophomore.
Also to be included is transfer from Louisville Ky 6'6" sophomore guard Michael Hall. A mid season transfer last season has had a chance to mature add weight and strength. This kid plays all 5 positions and at the point guard spot was a tuff matchup for teams all summer.
In addition 6'5" junior Reece Patton a mutideminsional slasher that plays lock down D. In all the Warriors may not garner the individual accolades but despite losing 5 very talented seniors from last seasons 19-3 squad that beat Portsmouth and lost a close 3 point game, things will be good on St Rt 339 March.

They were smart enough to realize not to put your kid in the top 5.

Not sure you have to be an authority on basketball to give an opinion on a high school basketball forum. I would say anyone who watches high school basketball regularly can form an opinion on who they think the best players are.

Travis McAvene apparently has experience coaching at many different levels of the sport, including a semi-pro team(Cincinnati Slam), so I bet he would have the ability to pull players in from outside our area. From a win stand point that might be a better thing for the college but im sure there will be a handful of players from the area every few years who are not able to play at the next level because of it. Im not sure why they didn't win more games the last two seasons with local guys like Kraig Unger, Jeremy Bennington, Blake Blevins, Joe Michael, Tyler Knabb, Tyler Jimison, etc. They are still having open gyms at this point so im not sure how many local guys will be on the final roster yet. The last open gym is on the 27th of this month. Im not sure if you saw my post on the other thread but I know Unger has talked to Mount St. Joseph's coaches this summer but I would not be surprised if he uses his last year or so of eligibility at Southern State, the limited number of educational oppurtunities past a basic associates degree could put that into question however. He has already been there two years and he went to UC Clermont for a while so im sure he has already finished any degree requirements at Southern State. I also know that Tyler Knabb from Eastern was thinking about playing at Wilimington College. As far as the 2012 class is concerned im not sure I know anyone specifically who is going there. The top 4 seniors(IMO) in the league last season are all going to play at Mount St. Joseph. I did hear Greg Himes say that Brett Stout from Eastern was thinking about playing there but I do know how that has changed since Himes' exit.

I'm not sure about Himes. Southern State did have a losing record each of the last couple seasons but I think last year's team made some positive strides. I agree that Southern State could be a good back up plan. Blevins took advantage of it last season after starting out at MSJ. They have good facilities, it would be inexpensive, and it is easy for people to come and watch them play.

and he'll go back "home" soon after this too. Just jumps from position to position and burns bridges along the way. Great basketball mind though.

I know Adam Weber was a front-runner for the spot early on this summer. What happened with that?
