Wonder if the GAHS Hall of Fame Athletic Committee will have a 11th Hall of Fame event this fall? It's June 20, and nothing has been done to select a 11th class.

Thanks for the update dewman (is it reg or diet that ya drink)... I don't place much emphasis on how we do in these type of events... More fun for the boys that anything else.. Everything dewdrinker pointed out doesn't surprise me.. Wonder why we still have timing issues? It's not like these kids haven't played together for a while.. June is about over and haven't seen much work on the new stadium!!!! Not surprising... I just hope they get the scoreboards wired up for next season....

With a new OC, it may take some time to get the timing down. But realistically, if the WR, RB, and QB are taught the proper fundamentals based off footwork, route running, and situation, it should not take that long at all. Example; The QB should be taught based off what routes are hot, what drop should be and consist of. Some routes cause the QB to plant and fire, some ask for the QB to have a hitch. It really just depends on what this OC is wanting to do. You can also gain better timing by making your WR/RB learn how to get in and out of their breaks. To many times a WR/RB doesn't stick and go out of their cut, they either get get choppy feet, or their chest is to high in their break. Teaching kids the proper fundamentals will make a offense click.

Thanks for the detailed breakdown... So if the offense doesn't click it is because our timing is off and our kids haven't been taught the proper fundamentals??? This is our coaches 4th year to run this offense. You would think our kids would know most of the fundamentals by now... So with a new OC, are we starting from scratch again??? Hope not....

I really don't know what the coaches are trying to do??? I know that being taught certian techniques can gain you an advantage over your opponent. I would really be curious what techniques are being taught??? How are the WR being taught to get in and out of their breaks? How is the WR gaining seperation from the DB? What is the QB's footwork on throwing certain passes? Are we trying to run a zone passing scheme? There are many different variables to take into consideration. I too, would like to know if we are starting from scratch with the offense.

I understand what you are saying... Sounds like you have a lot more football knowledge than myself.....LOL.... Just a general comment relating to High school football. I have witnessed this firsthand. The more complicated your offense is and the more plays you try to run usually leads to breakdowns doing the game, things like lining up in the wrong formation and often forgetting the play... Critical line for coaches is not to over coach and keep it as simple as possible.... We can't forget that these kids are very young and sometimes football isn't there highest priority... Plus the fact we only have 4 varsity coaches on staff can make teaching fundamentals a very challenging job...

I understand what you are saying and I agree completely about keeping it simple. A high school team can be successful with just 5 to 6 running plays and 5 to 6 passing plays. As far as just having 4 coaches on staff, that is definately a challenge, some of the best coaching is done during team scrimmage period to teach situations to the players.

Hope you dont mind if I get involved?!! But I have a couple of questions.What is a zone passing scheme? And.....When,in the last 3 years,has GAHS ran a Wing-T Offense?

I am not positive but i think there are a few boys on vacation this week, so there might of been a few different boys in there or a couple of people out of position. I could be wrong because we are on vacation this week and i am not sure who is actually there.
It is not like they don't have plenty of time to get it right i think they still have 3 or 4 7 on 7's to go.

I am not positive but i think maybe more then new plays or anything i think it might be some new terminology with the new OC. i also think sometimes with 7 on 7's you are working on different things. Like i saw one a couple of years ago and the quarterback never looked for an open receiver really. Because what he was working on was making certain throws. And so on every combination of patterns he was working on predetermined throws. Because maybe when he rolled out in past he had a habit of always throwing to receiver in flat or something so they told the kid ok when you roll this way we want you to go deep each time to work on that throw. or lets try and hit the guy on crossing pattern late.

So not being part of what was working on it is hard to know.

Back in the summer of 2003: They learned something useful alright ... How to 'fake' an interception/fumble recovery if fog happened to roll in during a football game! Who taught them that trick anyway? Niday?

That's a good one 93.... I will never forget that night.... The play happened right in front of me and I wasn't sure what had happened... I just figured your guy turned the machine on by mistake.. Once the fog cleared they said we had scored... LOL.... Of all the teams we played that year Athens worried me the most.... Some people still aren't sure what happened...

I remember the game well! Stood him up and stripped him.Then ran the other way to the house.Just like he had been INSTRUCTED to do! Lot of nice players in that game.Coaching was great because none of the know it alls in the stands could see any of the F-ups!! The Announcers were horrible "Donnie flying,Pup crying"....Priceless 8)

I think this is the most 7 on 7's they ever done at least since coach Eddy has been here. I think they are going to south gallia one day. i think there going to river valley one day. I had heard they were going to the Columbus area With some bigger schools, and i thought even though they didn't have it scheduled that they were going to do some work with Parkersburg besides the scrimmage game.

That just seems like a lot of 7 on 7's to me for the same old offense and defense. That is what makes me think that even though we may have the same base offense and defensive that it may not be operated the same. But when you look at what the pass offense was last year maybe they just think they need the extra work.
