I believe someone on an earlier post said the team gets 10 days of organized coaching before practice actually starts. Does the 3 days at Rio and 7 passing camps count for all 10 days? If this is so when do the linemen get any extra practice?

I don't think the 7 on 7 are counted as practices since the whole team doesn't participate

"Period 4 – June 1 through July 31..you have a maximum of 10 days to coach football. You can coach a 7 on 7 game as a day.
You can conduct a multiple hour football camp that will count as a day. Any instruction or
coaching by a head coach or a staff member counts as a day.'

This was copied from the OHSAA coaching guidelines. To me this is saying that a 7on 7 counts as a day. Maybe I am reading something into this. If they are counted it seems to me it would be better to spend more time together as a team.. Maybe not....LOL....

I am not sure how 7 on 7's are counted. But in reality It doesn't really matter how you spend those days. The original intent of them was to work on position skills. And since you can't wear pads during those days. You can't hit during those days, i don't really think it matters. A lot of teams used to save those days and basically start fall practice 10 days early. But you still can't put pads on or hit until same day i don't think it makes a lot of difference.

Also now and i haven't looked at rules for long time but i think each individual is aloud 10 days of practice so in this scenario. they used 3 days at camp. Then if i took one group of kids to two 7 on 7's. and another group of kids to two 7 on 7's then each group of kids would still have 5 days left, to practice and like if i held like a lineman challenge one day to work on those skills that would be one day. So literally you could have different kids. Getting instruction almost every day all summer and you would not be violating the rules. as long as each kid was only participating 10 times or less.

And this is separate from weight room and conditioning. Because that is in effect an open gym. Now they are not down there everyday but i know they have had some cross country kids and a few basketball players lifting with them now and then.

So if 7 on 7's do count and they probably do. Just think if you have backs and receivers and qb's and you have 10 days to work on skills. would you not want to put them in a position of where they were at least getting simulated live action during those 10 days instead of just out running routes on your field and doing drills.

Any organized session is counted as a coaching session of which you have 10 for the month of june in both football and basketball (boys) so yes 7on7 is counted as a session.

Numbers on Coach Jared McClellan's offense while at rv in 08-09 scored 173 points in 10 games or 17.3 per game with possibly the best qb in the area Curnutte, the defense allowed 328 points.
in 09-10 the offense scored 61 points in 10 games or 6.1 per game defense allowed 356 points
in 10-11 the offense scored 144 points in 10 games or 14.4 per game defense allowed 447 points

How's things coming on Gallia Academy's new football field? Haven't heard anything lately.

Also, it's July 6, and the GAHS Athletic Hall of Fame committee has not held a meeting for the 2012 nomination class . Looks like we won't have one this year.

It's July 14 and still no word on 2012's Hall of Fame Class. Dave Tawney needs names for plaques a month ahead of time for engravings.

Since 2002 the Blue Devil football team has been selling discount cards to local merchants. I saw on facebook that these cards are now being sold by Gallia Sports/BCMR in Gallipolis and the profits are supposedly being divided among the county schools... Are the Blue Devils still selling these cards as a fundraiser or is this a thing of the past?

A couple of years ago, the cards included a 10% discount at AutoZone and a buy one get one blizzard at Dairy Queen. Last year not quite as good. I think that in this economy maybe the business community can't afford it. I dunno, but I sure did like those blizzards!

I think the blue devil card has been around even before 2002. Maybe it wasn't called blue devil card before then but as a representative of a local business we have accepted the blue devil card or whatever it was called since at least 1994. I approved a add for a blue devil card offer in the last 2 weeks. But it is my understanding these cards will not be made or sold. Because there are so many other cards out there.

The other card out there my business is supposedly on but i have not found out who authorized it yet. i am not saying it was not done by someone who has the authority to do it. But i can tell you last year. In Meigs county i authorized the business to be on the marauder card and did a discount with the little league baseball association. Somehow though the discount was picked up and used by 4 other organizations. Which really sucks because i don't care who used the cards but the organizations selling them make no money if they are all selling the same things with same offers on them.

It was a decent fundraiser for the kids but i guess that is gone now.

Thanks for the info KV.... My main question was is the team doing it this year as a fundraiser? I am sure some kind of card has been around since 1994 but I know for a fact that we helped Boko set this up for a first time fundraiser back in 2002 for the football team.... Back then it was a good money maker!!!!!
