Jr. High coaching changes?
Re: Jr. High coaching changes?
I don't believe jr. coaching is a paid position----pretty much voluntary and who can find the time to do it.
Both coaches for the Burg this year have kids who will be freshmen, but I know the Burg and they are very
lucky to have so many parents who are very good coaches and will step right in.

Re: Jr. High coaching changes?
I doubt Tom Barrick will have a parent coaching in the junior high program.
Re: Jr. High coaching changes?
Jr. High is not a sanction sport so High School coach has nothing to do with it. They have had Jr. high softball at Wheelersburg for many years now and again, they have very qualified parents who can coach. It's just who has the time
to do it. HS coach doesn't even have JV team, so i don't think he puts too much thought into jr. high. He will be getting a very well coached group of girls the next few years.

Re: Jr. High coaching changes?
I am confused from the beginning on the topic as to what sport is being discussed. Several sports are sanctioned (basketball, football, track, etc) and several others are just an extension of the youth leagues (baseball, softball, soccer, etc.). Basically if you see the team pull up in a school bus, they are sanctioned and sponsored by the school board and have to live by all of the OSHAA rules for coaches as well as players.gapper wrote:Jr. High is not a sanction sport so High School coach has nothing to do with it. What Gapper is referring to is that the majority of schools do not officially sanction a JH softball team. In other words, like us, you can have a JH softball team, but it is organized, coached and insured outside of the school. Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but I was told once that the school name is not to be used on the uniforms due to OHSAA guidelines if it is not an officially sanctioned sport by the school. I fill out field request forms just like an outside organization. That is approved internally after I provide proof of insurance.
In regards to basketball, I ran our peewee league for about (3) years and all teams were insured outside of the school. The league requested use of the facilities which were approved once all teams participating provided proof of insurance. Again, not sanctioned by the district so the district was not held liable. We acted much like an outside organization requesting use of the facilities. The majority of the kids were district students.
Hope that helps.

Re: Jr. High coaching changes?
I don't think there would be a problem using the school name as far as saying "Wheelersburg Pirates", but you wouldn't want to use "Wheelersburg Middle School 7th grade team" or a private school name such as "Notre Dame Titans" or "Ironton St Joe" because that does tie directly to a school.
Re: Jr. High coaching changes?
West isnt sanctioned either, but is ran by the high school coach. I know he chose the coaches and helped with alot of our practices. He also let us use
the high school field and equiptment.
