Re: Who is the best defensive player at Logan?
Does anyone remember Lloyd Simmons? The guy was strong as a bull. He was better than thought.

Bobby (Big Daddy) Stewart started beside me at DT at 280 lbs. in the '61 season. Mike smith (260) started at the other DT and John Wells (210) played the other DE on the weak side. LB were Rob Johnson who started for 3 years at LB for Ohio St. And Dee Gabriel was the other LB. Bobby was a good team mate. He still alive ?

I think I was told that Big Daddy had passed. But I'm sure you may be better connected than me at this point to confirm. He and Rob Johnson were the last 4-year lettermen at LHS (1960-63) until Bryce McBride accomplished the feat in 2012-15. LHS had three freshmen earn letter last fall.
As for the question, if we're talking all time, here's a shot at a list from the '50s till now:
Defensive line: Bill DeLong (1956-1959), Bob Risch (1956-58), "Big Daddy" Bob Stewart (1960-63), Steve Mowery (1962-64), Curtis Rose (1985-87), Jim Redd (1987-89), Ryan Berry (1996-98), Jim Bennett (1998-2000), Rob Rose (2002-04), Ty Kratzenburg (2003-05), Cameron Kiger (2004-06), Jon Neff (2006-08), Reggie Wesselhoeft (2011-13), Kory Henthorne (2014-16)
Linebackers: Robbie Johnson (1960-63), Chuck Kemper (1965-67), Ken Culbertson (1970-72), Brad Tucker (1975-77), Eric Veidt (1984-86), Bryan Lambert (1989-91), Tom Smith (1990-92), Johnny Conrad (1998-2000), Matt Mong (1999-2001), Corey Kissling (2005-07), Patrick Angle (2007-09), Bryce McBride (2012-15)
Defensive backs: Gene Morgan (1955-57), Mike Brown (1956-58), John Gasser (1963-65), Greg Poston (1965-67), Scott Gasser (1975-77), Mark Ruggles (1977-79), Mitch Trucco (1980-82), Chad Zimmerman (1992-94), Jesse Henestofel (1998-2000), Tory Kratzenburg (2002-04), Lucas Wright (2005-07), Isaiah Smith (2013-15)

Re: Who is the best defensive player at Logan?
As for the current crop of Chieftains, I see it this way:
Logan has to expect a big season out of last year's sophomores; Sam Hall and Tyler Cummin at end and outside linebacker respectively.
The Ruff brothers need to make a leap forward at linebacker.
I think Charlie Kline could be a top centerfield-like free safety as a sophomore. Kamryn Carter will probably be asked to play more consistently on defense.

Thanks, Locos. I hadn't asked before about Big daddy, so I didn't know. I'm skipping our class reunion this year, 55th, where I would have got lots of new info.
Your historic list looks good, some I played with and others I saw play and a few I coached. Saw one of the Rose boys up here play at Slippery Rock.
Heres to a better year in football for Logan this fall, lol
