Since 1962???
You really have to include both Greg Sturnamen (67-69)and Hal Spears (70-71)
As I remember, Greg had more potential and slightly better arm, but Hal could run better and of course he had Jimmy Payne running both Jet Out and Jet takeoff (down and out, any bootleg fly route) for TD's and posession yards. Both threw very well, especialy compared to the Lutz years QB's who were singularly option players.
Coach Bruney was a whacko, but he ran a balanced (yards run/pass) offense from an I formation, wingback, single TE, and SE he called "BuckEYE Right".

Hands down Hal Spears! Was the best all around QB to come out of Ironton.

Good history there 71 alum. Both were good quarterbacks. I voted Wilcoxon because I played with him. He was the perfect quarterback for the offense we played, much like put Greg and Hal were. I would have put Greg Ainsworth in there for the same reason as Wilcoxon. He led the '78 team which to this day, in my opinion, is the best team to ever take to the Tank under Coach Lutz.

I can't find the poll to vote on site... but I believe it would be AJ Edwards. He had the most raw ability of any Ironton QB I have ever seen.

In 1971 Hal Spears did not thow an interception until the Logan game! Logan went on to defeat ironton at the tank asw I recall 22-19

I'll take Snyder and Alva J Edwards as the best two I've seen

Yes that is correct Ironton was ahead at half time 19-0. That was the last time Ironton had the home coming at half time. Half the Senior class was out on the field instead of in the locker room. Coach Bruney went crazy after the game. That was the last league game Ironton lost for a very long time. The SEOAL was great league to play in.

We worked all week defend the option and Spears passing game, our defensive ends punished Spears on the option more so in the 2nd half. My oppinon that was good for Ironton football because it caused Bruney to leave which was one of the many factors!
