Joe Thomas called out Hillis for last year. This should be an interesting game! Browns will play to the level of KC and win ugly. Might be there last win of the season.

Strange to see the starters standing on the sideline at the 2 minute warning on offense, big win for the Brownies!

Is anyone else feeling weird about winning so easily down the stretch?

I feel like I didn't get my regular dose of stress on relaxation Sunday.

Guess I'll have to fret about all the points we left on the field. It's fun finally watching NFL football in Cleveland unis, especially brown ones. :122245 :122245 :122245

Griffin sprained his knee so he will probably go,but they need to stop that running back if they want to win IMO.Griffin will get his yards, but they got to limit Morris from getting his.The offense will have to put up more than 2 touchdowns to win unless the defense is better than I think.I can't wait to see how they do now that the weak teams are out of the way.

Just as the YOUNG Browns are showing promise, rumor is that Haslam is thinking of bringing in Mike Lombardi in place of Heckert. And he, in turn, might hire Josh McDaniels as the new coach. Man, I can't take this. Shurmur may not be the answer but I think he deserves a look-see for another year. And what has Heckert done wrong? Jimmy, call me!

D&C, I completely agree.

The Browns are progressing under the current regime, and why change something that is working. They have earned at least another season.

Then again, being Cleveland, we may need to change things because we wouldn't want anything that works in a positive manner.

Heckert must stay!

Haslem will lose his poopularity real quick if he gets rid of Heckert,if he is such a successful businessman surely he will see this, but maybe Heckert won't even want to stay now that his main man is gone as I'm sure Holmgren will reunite him once he gets his next coaching gig.

Bill Nelsen- QB of the Browns of my youth!

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A countdown of the top 100 players in Cleveland Browns history. Players must have spent at least four seasons with the Browns. The ranking is based only on players' careers with the Browns.

No. 52, Bill Nelsen, quarterback, 1968-72

Bill Nelsen didn't own a cannon arm and his mobility was spent on wobbly knees, but his toughness, leadership, savvy and ability to deliver in the clutch added up to the most important trait for a quarterback -- winner.

Nelsen didn't have a fair opportunity to utilize his gifts until the Browns acquired him during the spring of 1968. Cleveland traded defensive tackle Frank Parker, backup quarterback Dick Shiner and a draft pick to Pittsburgh for Nelsen and safety Jim Bradshaw.

The Steelers had selected USC's Nelsen in the 10th round with the 136th overall pick in the 1963 draft. He started 23 games in five years for Pittsburgh, including 22 contests for bad Steelers teams in his last three years with them.

Coach Blanton Collier and the Browns liked the idea of backing up Frank Ryan with Nelsen, even though Nelsen had endured four knee operations by the time they got him. They did not figure he would replace Ryan as the starter just three games into his first season with the Browns.

Ryan, a three-time Pro Bowl quarterback with the Browns and the signal-caller for their 1964 championship team, was himself hobbled by various injuries that didn't keep him from playing, but began to chip away at his fine skills. Cleveland was 1-2 and had totaled just 13 points in its previous two games when Collier made Nelsen the starter. It was a dramatic decision because of all Ryan had done for the Browns, and risky because Nelsen had never been counted on by a team looking to contend. Ryan was 32 when the move was made and Nelsen, despite his history of knee problems, was just 27.

The Browns' offense took off with Nelsen at the helm. Cleveland scored 52 points in the first two games he started, winning one and losing one to become 2-3. Then, the Browns put together an eight-game winning streak to clinch the NFL Century Division championship, before losing a meaningless regular season finale. The first of the eight straight wins was a 30-20 decision in Baltimore over the Colts, considered football's best team. In fact, it was the Colts' first and only loss of the season, until they fell 16-7 to Joe Namath and the New York Jets in the famed Super Bowl III.

The Browns' win at Baltimore was the first of seven straight games in which they scored at least 30 points, averaging 37.9 points during the stretch. Then, Nelsen directed the Browns to another upset win, this one in a playoff game, a 31-20 conquest of the feared Dallas Cowboys at Cleveland Stadium. Eight days later, though, again at the Stadium, the Browns were routed, 34-0, by the Colts in the National Football League championship game -- setting up Baltimore's match with the American Football League champion Jets.

Nelsen and the Browns fashioned another banner season in 1969, going 10-3-1 and drilling the favored Cowboys, 38-14, in a playoff game at Dallas -- the last road playoff win in Browns' history. Again, the Browns fell a game short of the Super Bowl, losing the NFL title game, 27-7, to the Vikings on a frigid day in Minnesota.

The NFL and AFL completed their merger in 1970, with the Browns moving to the newly-named American Football Conference as part of the deal. Expected to run away with the Central Division, the injury-riddled Browns floundered instead, missing the playoffs with a 7-7 record. Part of the reason for the disappointment was the departure of star wide receiver Paul Warfield. Nelsen's knees were worsening by the game, it seemed, and the Browns wanted a big talent ready to replace him. So, prior to the 1970 draft, they traded Warfield to the Miami Dolphins for the third pick in the first round, which they used to select Purdue All-America quarterback Mike Phipps.

Nelsen started every game except for one, a loss, as the 1971 Browns won the Central Division with a 9-5 record. Then, in 1972, with his knees in worse shape than ever, Nelsen started only the opener, before Phipps took over. The Browns went 10-3 the rest of the way with Phipps and the help of a solid defense, and nearly upset the Dolphins in a playoff game, losing, 20-14, in Miami. The Dolphins went on to finish 17-0 and win the Super Bowl to cap what remains the only perfect season in NFL history. Cleveland, on the other hand, would not make the playoffs again until 1980.

Nelsen retired after the season. The Sporting News had named him first-team all-NFL in 1968, and he made the Pro Bowl in 1969. Nelsen started 51 regular season games with the Browns, and though some of the key offensive players were starting to age by his third year, he led them to a 34-16-1 record.

What memories! I liked Bernie but Bill Nelsen, along with Brian Sipe, will always be the QBs I remember when I think of Browns winning teams!

Yes its true OZZIE! But it is highly unlikely with all the stuff that has to happen including the Browns winning out which might be the hardest of all considering who they face, but it is fun to talk about this late in the year for the Brown when fans are usually wondering who will be available in the draft.

Fools gold! They should'nt make the playoffs this year. Plain and simple, they aren't good enough...yet. But they are young and improving. I think they are a couple of years away IF no major changes happen this off-season!

One step forward and two steps back. Browns played decent for a half, then got boatraced by a determined Redskins team. I think the defense just gave up a little after it became apparent the offense wasn't going to do anything tohelp them. One thing is apparent to me. Weeden isn't the answer and without a QB, you may as well have nothing. Shurmur and Heckert own Weeden so they have to play him. But they may be playing their way out of town. I'd put Colt in and let the departed Holmgren own this mess. Or start polishing off the resume. Yea, Heckert makes great mid-round picks but if you can't get a franchise QB, you're not going to stick around.

They should have said redskins were the most dangerous team playing today, my goodness,I really thought the browns had an excellent chance of winning today with griffin sitting out, but maybe they had a better chance if he did play because kirk cousins tore them to shreds! First time this year the defense has been manhandled like that, how many times has Weeden been batted down this year to go with all them ints, but then he shows flashes of brilliance like that throw to benjamen. The way he was playing earlier in the year I thought he could do it, now I'm not so sure he's too inconsistent

Browns finish season 5-11 on a 3 game losing streak. We need a QB! No one in the draft. How about Alex Smith? He'll be looking for a new home and I doubt SF would trade him to the Cardinals. A good coach that develops QBs could do wonders with him.
