Re: Who takes TVC Ohio and why?
1. I had Athens all summer - and they are the defending champions - but I have to go with Nelsonville-York after watching both teams play in scrimmages ... the buckeyes seem to have all the pieces in place to produce a powerfull running game, which will be hard for any team to stop ... they have good size up front, D.J. Young gives them a nice lead blocker at the fullback position - and they have Clint Handa, Austin North & Marc Carter to run the ball ... with those type of athletes in the backfield, it looks as if Nelsonville-York will have its own version of the '4-horsemen'.

1A ... After watching the Bulldogs for a second time - I'm pretty sure they will be right in the hunt heading into that week 10 show-down with NY ... The green-and-gold are just so darn young with 4 key offensive players being ONLY SOPHOMORES ... QB - Joey Burrow, WR - Ryan Luehrman, RB - Trey Williams and WR - Adam Luehrman ... but they also have senior WR - Skylar Schwarzel, who might be the most dynamic playmaker I've seen all summer (which has been 6 different teams thus far) ... The new 'fast-break-offense' is fun to watch and definitly exciting - but the 'Dogs are handing the keys over to its new Ferrari to a QB who is barely old enough to drive ... if he stays accurate and continues to complete passes - Athens will have a great season ... if they suffer a lot of 3-and-outs - and the inexperienced defense has trouble stopping the run - it will be much tougher to duplicate last seasons success.

NY--
Because they aren't accustomed to not winning league titles. They will fight hard to win back the TVC-OHIO trophy!

They better get accustomed to 'fighting like hell' to get it every year O & B ... Athens is loaded with youth and talent buddy ...Orange and Brown wrote:NY--

I see the week 10 match-up just getting bigger and bigger every year - I know its hard to believe after last years game - but it might have been just be the beginning.
(actually, the 2009 game would be considered the 'match that lit the fire' ...

3. Meigs ... A brand new stadium, a new coach with a high football pedigree and the most experienced QB in the league (Dillon Boyer) could make the Marauders the real sleeper in the Ohio Division ... having to play @ Nelsonville-York to open league play in week 6 will be tough - but they get Athens at home in week 9 ... a win over either one of those teams could put Meigs in the hunt for a TVC-Ohio title.

I hope so ... the more good teams - the better ... I just havn't seen the Golden Rockets - nor do I know who they have with the losses of Prater, Austin Craig, D.J. Young and Joey Young ... seeing how well they do against Jackson week 1 will help out a lot ... If I get back from Florida in time - I might just go watch it, with the game being on Saturday.boilermaker wrote:Wellston will have say in this!

Athens because they have 300 more kids to choose from then anyone else and they have another two transfers that came in. They should never lose in the TVC.

Re: Who takes TVC Ohio and why?
If Athens had 300 more kids they would be a D1 team ... Nelsonville-York has 4 transfers ... and after watching BOTH teams play already, the Buckeyes have more players than Athens ... the "300" kids remark is meaningless, Dave Boston Jr. will have more "football players" to chose from than Ryan Adams on Friday nights ... you can have 800 kids in your school, but if you only have 40 that play football its hardly an advantage ... acording to the OHSAA, Athens has 297 boys, Nelsonville-York has 151 ... does Nelsonville-York have a soccer program that has 50 of its boys play?
As long as the Buckeyes keep having a bigger roster and more 'football' players' in its school ... I will not bite on the 'number advantage' some folks continue to whine about.
according to greatone: this is how the league standings will turn out this year ... no need to watch any games I guess.
1. Athens (297 boys)
2. Vinton COunty (271)
3. Meigs (209)
4. Wellston (188)
5. Alexander (171)
6. Nelsonville-York (151)
* Kind of interesting Nelsonville-York, the SMALLEST SCHOOL in the TVC-Ohio, pretty much dominates the league in football and has done so for years.

Re: Who takes TVC Ohio and why?
I'd take those standings any year ;)
If you look at the current TVC Ohio members...
NY has by far the most titles. Followed by..
VC
Meigs
Wellston
Athens
Alexander
Doesn't exactly line up with the enrollment numbers now does it...

I am hearing they recruited a QB that is a freshman.
Re: Who takes TVC Ohio and why?
Actually if you look at the numbers, other than NY, and consider that Athens has only been in the league a few years it does break down such that the bigger the school the more titles.Dundas wrote:I'd take those standings any year ;)

So, as I have explained on here time after time, all other things being fairly equal the more boys you have to choose from the more chance you have of winning games. NY has built a program so that they supercede the numbers factor. Therefore, until the other schools hire coaches who can get the players in their buildings who can help the team to play football, and who can coach well enough to beat the smaller schools, NY will be the favorite year in and year out.

Re: Who takes TVC Ohio and why?
Alexander (2nd smallest) has been right in the mix behind Athens & NY the last three years ... Vinton County (the 2nd biggest) has been at the bottom ... just sayin.
Re: Who takes TVC Ohio and why?
Heavy D..Belpre has the second most TVC tiitles behind NY overall. So add another small school to the top if that list.
Re: Who takes TVC Ohio and why?
They are no longer in the Ohio, and they were not always as small as they are while they were winning championships.Dundas wrote:Heavy D..Belpre has the second most TVC tiitles behind NY overall. So add another small school to the top if that list.
Re: Who takes TVC Ohio and why?
They have always been smaller than VC and Meigs and they were the last team to win the title not named Athens or NY.Heavy D wrote:They are no longer in the Ohio, and they were not always as small as they are while they were winning championships.Dundas wrote:Heavy D..Belpre has the second most TVC tiitles behind NY overall. Alex got in there and Belpre hasn't been the same since Holder left and Soccer started.
