J.H. Girls Holiday Classic @Piketon

Post by jshepherd »

On Saturday December 22nd Piketon is hosting a Junior High Girls Holiday classic. So far I have 10 schools registered to play. Each school will play one non-league opponent that the girls would normally not get to compete against. The 8th grade will play in the Gym at the new high school "The Oven" and the 7th grade will play in the Ray Taylor Memorial gym.
The fee is $75.00 per team to help cover the cost of the officials and each player and Coach will get a Holiday classic t-shirt.
If interested in bringing a J.H. team please contact me:

[email protected]
or call (740)289-2254
Thanks!

Joel,

It is great that you are putting together something like this for the JH girls teams in the area, who often get left out on events such as this.

Looking for to bringing my girls (North Adams) to the classic.

I agree, good job Joel. We would like to get in the Classic but only have an opening on our 7th grade girls schedule. For us to get in we need a partner who also has one team wanting in, to keep the number of teams even. If anyone has a 7th or 8th grade team that may be interested please conact me at

[email protected]
or call (937) 780-2221

thanks

Thanks everyone. I know that at times girls can get left out, so I thought this would be a good way to get schools to play an opponent they would not normally get to play. We are centrally located here at Piketon 32/23 intersection so it is an easy trip from any direction.
I am looking for 1 more school that has both a 7th&8th grade team to add to the shootout. I currently have 13 schools in each division (7th and 8th) and am looking for one last school to add. If you are interested email me at [email protected]
It should be a fun time for all involved.

Does each team only play game?

If you mean one game, then "yes". The OHSAA will only OK one tournament( no more than 3 games) per year per team. So if your league has a year end tournament, a 2nd game here would be a 2nd tournament.

Each team will play one regular season game at the holiday shootout/classic.
I am still looking for 1 more school that has both a 7th and 8th grade team. If interested in being the 14th school email me at [email protected]
Thanks!!!!!

Thanks for coordinating this tournament. I have always disliked the fact that our JH kids have a 2 week shutdown period where there is little done with the game. This is a move in the right direction for the game and the continued skill development for the kids in our area.

I am still looking for a 7th and 8th grade team to even out our divisions for the JH holiday classic. To make sure anyone reading this post doesn't misunderstand, participation in this holiday classic will only count as one of your regular season games, it is not a tournament and should allow for the JH girls to play against out of conference opponents they would not normally play and in front of larger than normal crowds. It also will help break up that two week break in play over Christmas.
If you are interested in being the 14th and final school to participate please contact me a.s.ap.....my contact information is listed above.
Thanks!

Be ready to enjoy watching the 7th grader from Southeastern (Ella Skeens). This kid is the real deal. She's averaging like 30 ppg.
