Looks like the rain should be out of here in the early afternoon, so tomorrow night should be a great night for football.

I wanna see a packed house at Alumni Stadium. Home opener for the Ironmen, and an outstanding opponent. Should be a great atmosphere.

So close....

Good game, two very good teams.

Jackson needed to be close to perfect to win and just fell a few plays off. Granville had a long pass hover in the air forever and we were caught looking as their receiver blew by for the long completion. We are driving down the field....appear to pick up a 1st and the ball pops out right into their hands for a TD the other way.

Missed tackle on a 3rd and 7 followed by a couple other missed and another TD.

Granville was excellent....but I like what I saw from the Ironmen. Morgan Landrum was a monster on both sides of the ball. Cutright was great. A lot of gutsy kids. The O line was solid.

Granville is a little better team right now. Hats off to them and good luck the rest of the way.

Great game between what I think are two very good football teams. Good luck to Granville the rest of the way. Hope they go 10-0.

The first half was a defensive struggle until Granville completed a long pass to set up the only score of the first half. Jackson was able to move the ball somewhat, but couldn't sustain a drive in that first half. The Blue Aces were packing 8, 9, and 10 men in the box, and bringing so much pressure that it was not only hard to run, but also hard to find time to throw.

Jackson came out in the second half and started to take control of the line of scrimmage, but just as they started to put together a dominant drive, Granville was able to strip the ball out of the RB's hands and return it for a score to go up 14-0. At this point, the Jackson Ironmen showed me what they were made of as a team. They got tough and drove the ball right back at Granville and Morgan Landrum scored to make it 14-7 early in the 4th quarter. The Ironmen then forced a three and out, got the ball back, and Landrum broke another long run to set up a QB sneak by Rafferty for the score.

Tied at 14, Jackson forced Granville into a 3rd and 7. The Blue Aces completed the pass, and their WR made three Ironmen miss as he broke a long run after the catch down the sideline for a TD to make it 21-14. It was a crushing turn of events because the Ironmen had tied the game, had all the momentum, and Alumni Stadium was rocking. The Ironmen tried to put together a drive to tie the game, but were forced to go for it on 4th and long inside their own 30, and didn't get it. Granville then threw a TD pass on 4th and 8 to seal the deal, 28-14.

Obviously it's disappointing for Jackson's 21-game regular season winning streak to come to an end. It's also disappointing that just a couple costly mistakes ended up making the difference in a well-played game, but I'm unbelievably proud of the way Jackson played. Those kids played their hearts out against one heck of a football team. They were down 14-0, but refused to quit, tied the game and really had a chance to win it in the final minutes. They ended up losing to an extremely talented football team, and there's certainly no shame in that.

Going forward, I'll be surprised if Jackson sees a defense any better than the one they faced tonight. Next week against Athens, the Ironmen will see an offense similar to Granville's...maybe even better than Granville's. However, if the Ironmen play with the passion, focus, and intensity with which they played tonight, they're gonna have a great season. Time to forget about this one and get ready for the Bulldogs. The next two weeks are VERY important as far as the playoffs are concerned, so let's get ready to go and get back in the win column.
