Coal Grove wins this. The only reason it will be hard to win is because it is at Valley!

I've seen CG go toe to toe with Burg who went toe to toe with Ironton. None would argue Ironton's the best team within the two counties. However, this game will be an accurate gauge of how good Valley is. Even in Valley, my gut says CG. I will go CG 28 Valley 17.

To whoever at Valley, You may want to contact OHSAA because according to their website Rock Hill beat Valley 40-13.

Grove takes this game. They did what no one else except the people of Coal Grove thought they could do. They went toe to toe with Wheelersburg and stuck with them for most fo the game. Valley is good but no where near what they were last year. I see the Grove improving even more from a week ago, which is amazing because I thought last week they looked better in a loss then they did the week before that in a win.

I love how Grove is so much better than Valley because they played with a team that played with Ironton.

Valley has done what they have wanted to do on the ground the last two weeks. The Indians are not near as good as they were in 2011, but they are a lot better than what those on here are giving them credit for. Valley thrashed the Grove 2 seasons ago when the Hornets made the playoffs and the Indians didn't. In 2009, a 9-1 Grove team scored with under a minute left to escape a 7-3 Valley team.

Valley will be ready on their home turf Friday night.

I don't like that logic either. However, Valley is 2-0 after playing Portsmouth, a team that hasn't played good defense in years, and a Rock Hill squad that might be the worst team in the BAD, BAD OVC this year and is amazingly weak even by recent Rock Hill standards.
Coal Grove was the beneficiary of a soft schedule in 2010 and were exposed by a legitimate Valley team that played in a good conference and was the odd man out of the playoffs. The 2009 team was the best the Grove had put on the field since the mid to late 90s, but that wasn't saying much at all. They still lost to Minford at home in a game they should have won and they were humiliated in the first round of the playoffs by Oak Hill.

I don't know how many he has seen over the last 8 years, but I've seen quite a few and I can vouch for his statement. And I'll go a step further and say that they'll probably be even better next year. The line-up is loaded with sophomores and juniors, especially at the skill positions. There are nearly 20 sophomores on the roster, a lot of whom are already seeing significant playing time.

Same old song and dance...Valley might as well not even show up..Valley has done what they are supposed to do the last few games. I dont care who the opponent is. Portsmouth isnt as bad as what people say, they just have a TOUGH, TOUGH schedule. We'll see how the next 2 weeks go, I personally have them losing a close one @ Burg and upsetting Minford....

Anyhow...Coal Grove better not underestimate the Indians, because while they are not the 2011 team, that team left something behind which is belief and a winning culture. Valley knows they can play with and beat EVERY team on the schedule, if they will or not remains to be seen.

It starts friday night.

No not really but I will say that everyone (save ironton) circles BURG as the team to beat on their schedule every year and in most years it defines their season. I have seen Coal Grove play other schools Valley included over the last few years and this team can flat out play. IMO they let BURG off the hook last week.

Should be a good one, I thing Coal Grove is probably a little more talent, but valley is a tough place to win (unless you're burg). Both teams have big strong kids. I think that Coal Grove does not break their jinx against Soc 2 schools and Valley pulls it out 28-26.

Fair enough.

What you are saying is that Burg gets everyone best shot. So if Grove's best shot at Burg was being down two scores with under a minute at home, I'll take my chances.

Coal Grove may very well win this game, but I think the Indians get it done. I really liked Alex Bare last year and I am sure he has improved. If Grove spreads the Indians out and throws the ball well, then they have a good chance. I don't think lining up and coming straight at Valley will be enough.

Valley 27
Grove 22

Spam is correct! Burg is a great measuring stick! Other than last year, only a wise, elderly man would remember the last time Valley beat Burg. And for the most part, Ironton beats Burg. We will see how the comparisons turn out on Friday. Look for this game and the Fairland/Burg game in a few weeks to finish any OVC/SOC arguments.

This should be a measuring stick game for Valley to see where they stand.
Have to go with the SOC in this one. Should be intertaining
