Future TVC Divisions
Re: Future TVC Divisions
I agree with our AD that Wahama needs to be in a league in West by golly, and Trimble needs to move to the Ohio Division and put up or shut up. If not, it should be three divisions. She agrees with me, and says Southern and South Gallia are on board with this, that if we go to three our division should be Eastern, Southern, South Gallia, and Miller and if we have West by golly teams in we should invite Hannan to join our division. Apparently there have been some meetings with the above to discuss these ideas. So I look for more changes to come about. :12224
Re: Future TVC Divisions
Miller won't want to be in a league where they have to drive that far. The trip to Hannan would rival their trip to South Gallia. I believe if you start to slice and dice up the league people will leave. You may not care but what happens right now but if you are not careful down the road you get left with a mess just like the SEOAL
Re: Future TVC Divisions
Well that's fine leave Miller out of it then. But I don't see how it is fair that we have to have Wahama in our division in softball. They make a mockery of the spring sports season with their state rules excuses. They also run the score up in football. Hard to win over then in basketball too.Fortdawg wrote:Miller won't want to be in a league where they have to drive that far. The trip to Hannan would rival their trip to South Gallia. Re: Future TVC Divisions
In reality the TVC is the governing body over two seperate leagues. The addition of River Valley (which I am in favor of) only further complicates problems in the future making some sort of change likely. I feel with River Valley coming most likely to the Ohio division where they should be at least makes it necessary to add another to the Ohio either from an outside source or from the Hocking which none of those schools want anything to do with or maybe move Alexander back down but I'm not sure they or other schools in the Hocking would be crazy about that idea either. Miller is in no mans land with their location, other league opions wouldn't be much help from either a travel or competition standpoint so I don't know anyway they could help themselves without going independant which I'm guessing they wouldn't want either. Again people this is all speculation and mostly for fun at this point so calm down a take a breath until something really happens. The TVC and its member schools will do what they feel is best for all of the league and its members which may not be the best thing for an individual school.
Re: Future TVC Divisions
We need to split the Hocking. Put RV in with Trimble, Wahama, Fed Hocking, Belpre and Miller if they hate themselves enough to want to play Trimble and Wahama every year. In the other division put Eastern, Southern, South Gallia and Waterford and let us pick up Hannan. Leave the Ohio as is. :12224

Re: Future TVC Divisions
I know this would put Miller with long trips, but there would only be 3 league games. I don't think they would fit in the Hocking 1 based on performance. Whatever happens with the TVC, miller may be the school that takes the biggest hit. They really don't have any other options for potential leagues, so they'll either continue to struggle playing teams like Trimble and Wahama, or they'll be forced to travel long distances. I think the above leagues are about the best option for the entire league. (That is if no one else new joins the league)

Re: Future TVC Divisions
I would not be surprised to see Miller make a pitch to enter the Mid-State League small school division. Not sure the MSL would want them, but the trips would be shorter and the roads would be straighter overall. Competion-wise it would be similar to now IMO.

Doesn't Hannan bring those same "state rules excuses" as Wahama? Could it be you just want to dodge the competition that Wahama brings to the Hocking division?
Re: Future TVC Divisions
I'm sorry but will it feel like a league championship if you only had to win 3 games? Miller will want to stay in a league that has Trimble, Fed, and the team they beat last year (Belpre) over the other choice. I still think that if we carve up the league--people will become unhappy and leave---think SEOAL. If you want to do any splitting do it in the Spring sports and maybe Girls sports (Only because of the all week night games).

Basically the only way to avoid splitting the league is to stop adding teams because eventually it will be forced to split.

Re: Future TVC Divisions
Let me throw out an idea. Why not split the divisions by both geography and school size. In fact, why not have each team belong to two divisions (six divisions total). You would have championships based on the geographical best teams and championships among each of the school size grouping.
Let’s start with geography. First of all, you need the 16 team league to expand to 18 teams. For this example, I am going to use the SEOAL outlier to the east, Warren Local and, the smallest school in the MVL who has been sought by the TVC and MSL in recent years, Crooksville. Obviously there are other teams out there mentioned in past years as possible future TVC members.
Divisions based on Geography (somewhat). # of boys in grades 9-11 per OHSAA’s last count included.
Central: Athens (AT) 297, Meigs (ME) 209, River Valley (RV) 190, Vinton County (VC) 271, Warren Local (356), and Wellston (WE) 188. PS: What would be the 6 largest teams in the league.
North: Alexander (AL) 171, Crooksville (CR) 150, Miller (MI) 104, Nelsonville-York (NY) 151, Trimble (TR) 107, and Waterford (WT) 89.
South: Belpre (BE) 145, Eastern Meigs (EM) 87, Federal Hocking (FH) 138, South Gallia (SG) 91, Southern Meigs (SM) 76, Wahama (WH) 109 based off 7-12 attendance #,
Divisions based on size with location still in mind. Let’s go with Red, White, and Blue.
Red: AL 171, AT 297, CR 150, NY 151, VC 271, WL 356
White: BE 145, FH 138, ME 209, RV 190, WH 109, WE 188
Blue: EM 87, MI 104, SG 91, SM 76, TR 107, WT 89 PS: The 6 smallest teams in the league.
So there are 6 triads (groups of 3) and each will match with two other triads.
North Red: Alexander, Crooksville, and Nelsonville-York
Central Red: Athens, Vinton County, and Warren Local
Central White: Meigs, River Valley, and Wellson.
South White: Belpre, Federal Hocking, and Wahama.
South Blue: Eastern Meigs, South Gallia, and Southern Meigs
North Blue: Miller, Trimble, and Waterford.
So for example, if you are Alexander, you need to have the best North division record among CR,NY,MI,TR, WT to be that division’s champion. Since you are also in the Red division, you need to have the best division record among CR,NY,AT,VC,WL. Alexander playing each opponent in each of those divisions once (would not play CR and NY twice) would mean 8 games and leave weeks 1 and 2 open for non-league games or games with other TVC teams in other divisions.
Now that I have gone this far, I went ahead and drew up the football schedule for all teams:
Week 1: OPEN – schools fill with non-division TVC teams or non-TVC opponent.
Week 2: OPEN – schools fill with non-division TVC teams or non-TVC opponent.
Week 3: AL@AT, CR@WL, NY@VC, RV@BE, ME@FH, WE@WH, EM@MI, SG@WT, SM@TR
Week 4: VC@AL, WL@NY, AT@CR, WH@RV, FH@WE, BE@ME, TR@EM, WT@SM, MI@SG
Week 5: CR@VC, AL@WL, NY@AT, ME@WH, RV@FH, WE@BE, SG@TR, EM@WT, SM@MI
Week 6: MI@NY, WT@CR, TR@AL, AT@WE, WL@ME, VC@RV, BE@SM, WH@SG, FH@EM
Week 7: NY@AL, MI@WT, TR@CR, WE@RV, AT@WL, VC@ME, SG@BE, WH@EM, FH@SM
Week 8: CR@NY, WT@TR, AL@MI, ME@WE, WL@VC, RV@AT, EM@SG, BE@FH, SM@WH
Week 9: AL@CR, MI@TR, NY@WT, RV@ME, AT@VC, WE@WL, SG@SM, WH@FH, EM@BE
Week 10: CR@MI, WT@AL, TR@NY, ME@AT, WL@RV, VC@WE, SM@EM, BE@WH, FH@SG
Lastly, please don’t get excited by the two teams I “added†to the TVC. Not advocating for those teams, but it was better than putting two question marks. When looking at things geographically, I needed a team for the north and for the central.

Re: Future TVC Divisions
Just wondering if my idea in the last post was so horrible no one wanted to comment or if this thread got lost among the game threads?

Re: Future TVC Divisions
I don't think your idea is horrible---it's just that Crooksville spurned the last offer to join----I don't see them changing their minds. I have no idea but I would imagine that basketball and football gates are a big drawback. I would think that Sheridan alone would bring more people than the teams from Vinton, Jackson, Meigs, and Washington co.'s combined. Travel plays a bigger roll than anyone on here cares to admit. Make that scenic trip from Crooksville to Alex on a snowy Monday night or make the same drive and get a baseball game called for rain----then your parents are up in arms. My humble prediction is that RV joins the Ohio and nothing else changes. I don't see anyone leaving in the near future.

Can't disagree with that.
When I get a chance, I am going to do a 24 team set up with that concept (I will throw Crooksville out and put the SEOAL and some independents in). Might be a while before I get a chance.

Re: Future TVC Divisions
This is something I would love the TVC to do in the near future that would be good for the League and Teams..
TVC - OHIO (Remains mostly unchanged)
Athens - DIII
Alexander - DV
Nelsonville-York - DV
Meigs - DIV
River Valley - DIV
Jackson - DIII
You keep three really good gates for Athens/Alex/NY in football
You add another Big School in Jackson who will balance the OHIO division and make for some great games in all sports
Jackson and River Valley are not bad trips
The OHIO finds itself with 2 (DIII), 2 (DIV) and 2 (DV) schools ... even though some schools will go up or down in time
All these teams (except Alexander...correct me if I'm wrong) at one point were SEOAL members...
TVC - VALLEY (New Division)
Vinton County - DIII
Wellston - DIV
Wahama - D ?
Trimble - DVI
Federal Hocking - DV
Waverly - DIV
The Valley Division brings a few schools of the 'Old' Hocking into a New Division along with Wellston and Vinton County from the 'Old' Ohio with one new school school Waverly added into the mix. 1 (DIII), 2 (DIV), 1 (DV), 1 (DVI) and Wahama. Hocking Dominates Trimble and Wahama in Football get some 'New' opponents. Some interesting match-ups would come out of this in all-sports. Could Trimble dominate in Football in the Valley Division being the smallest school like Nelsonville-York has in the Ohio?
TVC- HOCKING
Eastern - DVI
Waterford - DVI
Southern - DVI
Belpre - DV
South Galia - DVI
Miller - DVI
The Hocking keeps the small schools together will all of them being DVI schools other than Belpre at DV. Travel isn't too bad for the majority, but Miller and Belpre would have some trips. However, they have made these trips before since all of them have already been in the league together.
I think if the league could pull this off, they would become a 'TRI' Division Tri-Valley Conference, it would be better than the current format.
You would have 5 League Games in Football and could schedule 5 non-league games to suit your team.
The 'Old' Hocking and 'Old Ohio' foes could still play eachother like (Trimble/Miller, NY/Wellston)
Also, they could still continue games such as (Trimble/NY)

Re: Future TVC Divisions
I can't see Jackson joining the TVC, I still think that Warren would still be a better fit to come back into the league as far as travel goes and your gates would be good too, but as long as some of the people in the league are afraid we will dominate the league and that came straight from a former AD that was in the TVC that I talked to we will not be given a chance to come back. This is 2012 not 1985 and times have changed since we left but some people can't let go of the past.
Re: Future TVC Divisions
Questionmark, whats your reasoning in dropping DIII Vinton County down and leaving 4 smaller schools in the Ohio?
I would rather see..
Athens DIII
Gallia DIII
Jackson DIII
Nelsonville York DV
Vinton County DIII
Wellston DIV
Personally though, I don't think the SEOAL will fold. I think if another team leaves (Portsmouth, Logan) you'll see the SEOAL push hard for Athens to return. And without the long road trips, I think they will.

Re: Future TVC Divisions
Hey Dundas,
I typed this up late last night so my thinking cap wasn't at full strength...
I put VC in the Valley Division because I thought they would like a change of scenery without drastic changes.
Tried to balance each Division as much as possible. A couple of Bigs and a couple of Littles...
With all that said though, if they just add River Valley to the Ohio or add a Jackson and leave the rest the same I'm ok with that.
I love having VC in the Ohio especially because they have great facilities and are some nice people. A friend from college was a VC grad and VC is great for the League, especially when teams try to get to the VC level in Basketball. I also love all the travel the current Ohio has, especially the short trips during Baseball...
Lastly, Athens will not go back to the SEOAL. The TVC opened their arms when a majority of our programs were in trouble and let us in. We will not leave the TVC for many reasons. The gates have been more than anyone could have imagined. The travel to play league games is nice. Football wise, we have seen that we can make the Play-Offs and with the league adding possibly another school (Jackson/Galia or Warren) that would increase our chances with having another big school in the mix. We love the TVC, everybody at Athens loves the TVC. There is just no reason to change something that isn't broken.
Now, with what I just underlined, and the fact we are all talking about change. I'm all for improving the league, but we better take some notes from the OLD SEOAL and how they killed their league changing to drastically...

Thats all and good but next year the div. change that puts ny in the ohio at div 6.
