I think there have been some injuries that really hurt this West team. What I seen the second half of the Chilly game there were 2 fundamental changes. One West came out throwing the ball (GOOD JOB STAFF) and the second was a different Coach put on the headset. This might not sound like much but the intensity of this Coach and the players went up!! The correct and timely communication to players is important.

Good Luck This Week West - May it be injury free for both teams.

If the Burg staff was disrupted also then you can start making your fantastic comparisons! By the way, Fairland is not the best team West has faced this year either. By and large, the West staff has done as well a job as any other school adjusting over the years. They are a fine coaching staff now. I will say I hope the backs start holding onto the ball better. They have a great group of kids at West too. I had the pleasure of meeting some of them this summer. Good Luck the rest of the year West! Hope you win out and learn some valuable life lessons while you are at it.
No on the moving part. I love the Westside and always have in the 40 years I have lived here. Did not say Fairland was the best team we have played, said they were the best looking team we have played. Do you think that I don't know of coach T'S situation last season. I am also glad he came back I have alot of respect for him he is a good coach and mentor for the kids, as for the rest of the coaches I have played for one, and played and grew up with some of the others and have alot of respect for them also. I also know that we do have a great bunch of kids. I would like to know if it's against the law or something to agree with another poster and give credit to another program for their success.

Losing 2 starting linemen if tough on any team. It can kill a teams moral as quick as anything especially when they are looked upon as leaders. The younger kids have made great steps in filling in those spots and the defense is starting to gel. We still need to cut down on turn overs and silly penalties. You can get first downs and touchdowns when you are shoting yourself in the foot. We clean that up and we start putting W's up. And yes you defently need to adjust your playbook to your personal and it sounds like we are going that way which I am all for. Good luck to all the boys get the win and the monkey off your backs

If it was in the Burg Portsmouth thread then we had only played 2 games at that point and Fairland is probably the best of those to this year. Portsmouth wasnt a better team than we are. Turnovers and penalties were big deciding factors in that game. That and the number of missed tackles. I have never seen Luv big cats say anything against the West Side. The comments he said was in no way demening of the coaches, players or the community and for you to insenuate that was just wrong. Sometimes you have to give credit where it is due, it doesnt mean you have to like it. And after reading Big Cats post over the years I can say he wants as much as any West Sider to beat Wheelersburg every year!

The line they have is big and strong but could work on there quickness a little.

What's funny is if they were playing smash mouth football and losing someone would say they need to go to the spread. LOL!!
It's not about the X's and the O's but the Jimmy and the Joes!!

You are wrong again urban buck I did not say in the Portsmouth Burg thread Fairland was the best team we played. I said in the Burg and Fairland thread that they was the best looking team we have played. In another post on the same thread,I said they were the best looking team we have played with how they executed on offense and defense. I also said that it was probably the best team I've seen them have since we have been playing them.

Scott Bricker has a had big hand in the offensive since his return. He and Triplett called most the plays during the scrimmages and first two games. The only other person to be calling plays would be Coach Alf Bricker (who called the majority of the offense last year) or Coach Swords (the Jv/freshman coach). I can't imagine any of those guys throwing the ball 25 times to be honest.

Well someone’s calling the pass plays and I would love to see it continue. I know that West could run all over RH, but would like to see 25-30 pass attempts also, just to get Irwin more comfortable throwing.

I hope we keep letting the kid throw. We have some skilled guys. Just not alot of big backs or the size on the line to play strictly smashmouth. Honestly I'm surprised we went to that offense because we no how coach likes to run the ball. Could we be seeing a little of the"Urban Meyer" effect?

Seen some of the film. If not for the phantom holding call on the Frye run down to the 20 early in the 4th we could've cut that lead to 21-14 and come back Friday.
I don't think the urban meyer effect is in play here. Imo!

Maybe not. But his style (power running from a spread formation)is gonna catch on more and more. Not just in Ohio, but throughout big ten country.

As far as the playcalling, we know how Triplet likes to run the ball. But after the first two games its very evident that we don't have the backs or the line to win simply by playing that way. Maybe watching valley, burg, fairland, bucyrus wynford, and others do it has changed his mind. Heck Ironton runs some spread now. I think he likes it and will keep doing it in the forseable future. At least i hope.

Me too, I hate the Tight “T” formation, Woody Hayes was a great coach, but that was the old day’s! This time and age, just running the ball only gets you so far even in your own league. I like what happened in “08” and last Friday and I’m one to hope it’s here to stay also.

KOOLKOACH, No, Coach T’s style of offense is the farthest thing imaginable away from Myers offense, but hey he could take some pointers....... I think if they stick to the style offense that they ran last week they will be OK.

I've known Trip for years and this is not the first time he has mixed it up. Yea he was coached by Lutz of Ironton and it shows. Lot of things come to mind but I can remember going to Ironton/Jackson game when Coach Trip was the Ironton coach. Exciting game and Trip threw plenty. Don't recall the score, Ironton won, just remember everyone was excited. :122246

I think that last week gave West players shot of hope to maybe salvage a season and have a chance to possibly go 7-3 and maybe.... just maybe a shot at the post season. Valley, Minford, and Burg will be very tough games like most every year, but hey as long as they stick to what’s working they will alway’s have a chance IMO.

More than likely, win these next 2 games. I think we will see how good Minford is tomorrow against Portsmouth. If West can get over the hump against a talented Minford team, the championship game will probably be in week 10 at Ed Miller stadium, if not 4-6/5-5 at best. However, the people that have been around this team knows they are talented, last years senior class was very talented and probably underappreciated, but the current senior class definitely played a major role in going 10-2. This team is better than .500 and I think they will get there.
