So there were no marriages in places where God was not known?.........There were no marriages in cultures that had other Gods?..................There were no marriages before there was the Christian bible?...............Once again you are trying to force all to conform to your belief system about marriage..........That is your opinion.......In this great land, our framers understood the need for a tolerance of all ideas.............That is why marriage is secular, and only religious if it is part of your cultural values..........When I got married, I was not a Christian.....My wife and I got married saying our own vows in Ritter Park Rose Garden..........We have been married for 40 years next summer.........I am now a Christian, but because our wedding did not have a church or a typical minister, does not mean our marriage is invalid........Have your own beliefs and values, just do no not attempt to force me to believe them.......... :12224

If you were a Christian, I'd have no trouble explaining this to you but I strongly suspect you're mistaken in your relationship with God in the most pathetic & depressing way. I said it was God's IDEA for marriage, it was He who created & established the Institution. Adam and Eve were the first couple that God joined together. Now, whether someone believes in God or not or they follow another God, God still is the one who joins a man and woman together. I believe that happens when those who are getting married follow the 'Law Of The Land' for a legal marriage.

As far as in places where God wasn't known...well, again, there is only one source for truth that we can obtain if we are Christians, God's Word. ALL people once had knowledge of the one and only living God but...they did not like to retain God in their knowledge and for this reason, "God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient. "Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened, they claimed to be wise but they became fools. They, changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. And because of this..God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Furthermore...they became wrapped up in superstition and they changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever and because of these this, "God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet" Furthermore the human race became filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

They were are are: Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: and Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

I understand you fully..You are so upset that people will not just simply listen to yuo and follow your beliefs.........The fact is marriage is secular , always has been and always will be..........When you are forced to get Religious counciling and the licence from a pastor, then come back and we will discuss.........Undertsand reality not some wishful, fanciful dream tuck.......I know you will not change, and that is o.k..........But marriage is secular....So Gay marriage will become at some close time in the future, legal.......It has to, because there is no, absolutely no reason to stop it........It will take another court case like Loving vs Virginia that made marrying between races constitutional to make Gay marriage Constitutional..........Fact.....not fanciful dreams.... :12224 ...

ironmen1987 wrote:Is there anyone besides Abuck, Tuck, and myself that read the verses from Romans I posted that would stand in agreement with Abuck and his feeling that homosexuality is not mentioned? While I'm sure he will respond, I'm not interested in his opinion as he had his chance to voice it and choose instead to brush it off. I am however curious to see if anyone else reads it and feels the same way..... :?:
Just read 1 Corinthians Chapter 6 verse 9 NIV

Several things..........First, If Paul wanted to refer to homosexual behavior, he would have used the word "paiderasste." That was the standard Greek term at the time for sexual behavior between males....He did not..........The original Greek text uses the word "malakoi", which has been translated as "in both Matthew 11:8 and Luke 7:25 as "soft" (KJV) or as "fine" (NIV) in references to clothing. It could also mean "loose" or "pliable," as in the phrase "loose morals," implying "unethical behavior." In the early Christian church, the words were interpreted by some as referring to persons who are pliable, easily influenced, without courage or stability. Non-Biblical writings of the era used the world to refer to lazy men, men who cannot handle hard work, and cowards. ".........It also has this meaning "... men not working or advancing ideas so as to concern themselves with love only. Not working for the good of the whole....Our present culture has all sorts of connotations associated with the word 'effeminate' that simply don't apply [to Paul's era]."............. As you can see the original Greek does not back up the puritanical translations by Christians that want to put Paul on the same level as Jesus..........Most of his epistles have been looked at as fakes..........Be a Christian that seeks Jesus and not a Paulian who seek justification for your own phobias......... :12224

"What the Bible really says - 3 antigay myths debunked.

- The Bible wasn't written in English. It was written in many ancient languages

- There isn't just one version of The Bible in English. Biblegateway lists at least 21 versions.

1) Genesis 19 Sodom and Gomorrah http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?se ... ersion=NIV

- It is never said in the bible that the sin of those cities was homosexuality.

- Angels were sent by God into the city to investigate what was happing in the city. The people wanted to rape the angels as a punishment for being foreign. They didn't like Lot (the hero of the story) for the same reason.

- Anyone who wasn't trying to make a case against homosexuality would see that this is about harming the messengers of God in ANY way.

- Those same people never point out that, in the same verse, Lot offers his own unwed daughters to be raped by the same towns people. This is not decried in the bible in anyway.

- It is also never pointed out that in the next verses Lot's daughters got him drunk and seduced him to preserve the family line. This is also not decried in the bible in anyway. (see reference to incest below)

- It is not sexual acts that are condemned but rather the attacking of the angels.

2) Corinthinans 6:9

- The word used IS NOT "homosexual". It's "Molokoi" a greek word that means soft.

- He also uses the word "arsenokoites" which he sort of made up on the spot and never explained what it meant. Of course people took advantage of this and gave it the meaning of "homosexual" or "abuser of themselves with men".

3) Leviticus 18

- I'm sure many of you have already heard about this one. It's the one where people always say "well Leviticus also calls eating shell fish and abomination". True. But there's more.

- it's mostly concerned with incest being an abomination (see Lot and his daughters above)

- These verses list many things as an abomination or prohibited by God including.... well everything. Here so I won't have to list it. http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?se ... ersion=KJV

- God set forth these rules to set his people aside from those that worshiped other gods. He was talking about any sexual acts done AS A FORM OF WORSHIP to another god. (specifically the Egyptian gods because they had just been delivered from Egypt.)"
