Re: Wheelersburg vs West
This should be a good match. Burg is in a rough patch right now but I think it ends tonight. Burg 3- West 1.
Re: Wheelersburg vs West
Who can score more than 1. That's who wins. Trouble scoring across the league this seasson

Re: Wheelersburg vs West
I'm guessing this will be a good one.
Scores have been lower this season in the league as Rx mentioned. It could be because lack of goal scorers or maybe teams are playing better defense. Hopefully better defense is the reason but that just might be wishful thinking.
I've noticed a lot more teams switching to a flat back 4 instead of the diamond (stopper/sweeper) defense that most teams played a few years ago. If played correctly either one is a good defense.

Re: Wheelersburg vs West
5-1 Burg. The game ended on a nasty injury to Zach Dials of West. He's currently laying on the field waiting for an ambulance. No idea what's going on yet.
Re: Wheelersburg vs West
The officiating was extremely poor. The refs weren't cracking down at all. Unfortunately, it results in West's leading scoring being injured, and ending his season.
Re: Wheelersburg vs West
The refs sure were tough on anyone who wanted to get a Pepsi and stand along the fence!! I haven't seen that before. I hope the Dials boy is doing ok. I heard it was a bad lower leg break.
Re: Wheelersburg vs West
I didn't understand that either. I was even more confused when the spectators started cheering when he did that.4th n Goal wrote:The refs sure were tough on anyone who wanted to get a Pepsi and stand along the fence!! Re: Wheelersburg vs West
If they were yelling at the players or doing anything distracting it would have been different. From what I saw, they were half way between the goal and corner flag and they were just standing there watching the game. One of them was a parent working in the concession stand who simply took a break from working to watch his son play for a few minutes.

Best wishes to Dials. you hate to see that in a game. as for the fans on the fence, i had no idea what was going on. didn't seem to be that big of a deal to me, but that wasn't the case i guess. good win Pirates!
Re: Wheelersburg vs West
I hope that Zach is doing well. Has anyone heard anything? He is in my prayers.
As for standing along the endlines--it is not allowed according to the official rules unless the fans are actually in stands--due to the possibility of distraction. They used to enforce it on the other end in the past when the concession stand was on that end. The referee was correct and the fans need to follow the rules. You can not stand along the end fence during a soccer game.
The referees actually called this game fairly tight and, since the injury was two players colliding going hard for the ball and not a foul, there was no way the referees could have prevented the injury through reffing except by whimsically ending the game with two minutes to go. (Injury was in the final two minutes--to be that close to the end made it even more sad.)

Re: Wheelersburg vs West
The play Zach was hurt on was actually one of the most clean plays all night.
