Who do you blame then? There are teams that could/possibly beat us that did, but there are teams that it should not have been close. 2 wins????? Doesn't matter who everyone points fingers at you go .500 or better on a season or you will be called out at West. Is our talent down that much that we win 2 games?? I know it's not. Attitude reflects leadership.SiderGuy12 wrote:The 5-2 would work just fine if the kids could properly read their keys. It seems to me like that is the problem. First td for valley last week was not because of the safeties being too shallow, it was the fact that they both ran up to stop the run. Then you have Irwin trying to make up for those mistakes when it wasn't even his man to cover. West is young and it is the first Time that a lot of these boys have seen varsity play. I would not blame last weeks loss on the coaches..

I changed my pick to Waverly.
Seems the meltdown on the West Side has officially kicked off.

I wasn't not referring to the whole season, but as to last week. Last week would fall onto the kids. Laying a goose egg at home, I don't care who's coaching or what went on because if you can't even score a single point then their is either a lack in focus or heart. Most of these boys get down one score and put their heads down. They need to focus on their assignments and they need to keep their heart!Westsider1993 wrote:Who do you blame then? As to your referral to the season, they should've been at least .500 this year (wins over fairland and portsmouth would've made that possible) but they're not and everyone at west does point fingers. Has anyone ever thought that these kids may not just be as football smart as those in years past? They have the athleticism, but we haven't seen the results. The first fault automatically goes to the coach, which in my opinion is reasonable. But none of us are at practice so we don't know what's going on. Maybe the kids just don't understand, or maybe their afraid to take on the role of a leader. Various factors contribute into this but frankly i don't have the answer.

Re: week 8: west @ waverly
I have heard from a few reliable people that West has been know to draw plays up in the dirt.
One of them even told me that it happened many times in 08-09.

So which is it? First its the kids fault, then the coaches fault.....I guess everyone is pointing fingers.SiderGuy12 wrote:I wasn't not referring to the whole season, but as to last week. For this game, Waverly 28 - West 6
Re: week 8: west @ waverly
Teams have bad years. It happens. Sometimes its chemistry, injury, or lack of talent. This year it may be all 3. The injury to Reynolds was big. Then the Scott boy. Both hurt the oline badly, but they were even bigger on defense. They ended up with a freshman linebacker and lots of changes, but by the time they figured it out we were in the meat of our schedule.
We should not have lost to Portsmouth or Fairland. As bad as our offense has been we lost them because of poor defense. If we could play that season over with the defensive changes we have now we don't loose those games. The season would still be a disappointment, but alot better than the sub .500 we're staring at know.

All I said was last week was the kids fault because they lacked motivation and did not do their assignments.4th n Goal wrote:So which is it? Then when a team continues to lose, people automatically blame the coach.
The other bold point was about pointing fingers at west. But west has historically done this in every sport. Look at all the coaches that have been thrown away because of parents. They blame everyone for the losses except the kids, or their kids are not receiving sufficient playing time and they're upset and take the coach to the board.
I was not trying to point fingers, sorry if it had seemed that way
Re: week 8: west @ waverly
I know there are many teams/schools that would love to have Coach Triplett on their sidelines. He works his butt off to not only win games but to make sure his players graduate. Face it the talent is down at West but what I have heard that West was in every game. That tells me that you not only have a good coach but a great one. Be careful there are alot of teams that will reach out to have him as their head coach.
Re: week 8: west @ waverly
Thinking Da Tigers will pull this one out. Very encouraged with the offense last week against the Burg. Still too many penalties and mistakes but the Tiger offense moved the ball well. I really don't think the West defense is going to stop the Waverly passing attack. The Tiger defense did a good job against the Burg getting them to 3rd and long or even 4th and whatever but then the big play would strike, usually #3. I don't think West has the offensive firepower the Burg has.
Gotta go with Da Tigers on Senior night

Now that you have seen Valley and Burg which one do you think is better ? and why Just wondering......smurray wrote:Thinking Da Tigers will pull this one out. Re: week 8: west @ waverly
The spread can be covered just fine by the 5-2 if you make some adjustments. All one really has to do is run it like a 3-4. The basis of the 3-4 came from the old oakie 5-2. Just have the ends play line backers. Play the run first and if they pass just drop to the curl. That way you have 5 under with 2 over top. If they walk up a tight end or run, the lb plays like an end. If a coach wants to get really "exotic" one can run the 5-2 like a 4-3 under and flip the defensive ends have end play strong as true defensive end and the other play weak like a true outside backer. However, I suppose this isn't a traditional 5-2 defense if a coach were to do this, lol.
Re: week 8: west @ waverly
i think burg has the better offense and valley has the better defense,it should be a good game.
Re: week 8: west @ waverly
waverly is terrible again this year. 1-7 for a reason!
if west can put any talent and desire to use this week they win rather easily......

Re: week 8: west @ waverly
West won't wi n easily trust me the tigers will definitely give them a game
Re: week 8: west @ waverly
After watching both of these teams play Waverly has got to put the ball in the air West is really good at stoping the run they made Valley work for every yard they got at times I think West 28 Waverly 21
Re: week 8: west @ waverly
Heavy hearts in the Waverly community and schools today. We lost a wonderful person last night. She was a fantastic and loving person, a great teacher, but an even better mother and wife. Her two twin daughters senior night is tonight, one being on the volleyball team and one being in the band. This is a very very difficult time for her family. Tiger nation needs to stay strong and come together tonight for her two daughters and husband. She will be missed dearly, please keep her family, friends, and community in your prayers!
