As long as a "streaker" does not have to run through Valley's "D" line he should be fine...trust me, no one runs through their line! Eddie Miller probably felt like he drilled his bag on something when we played them! Jk

Good luck to both teams...hopefully no one gets hurt the last week before playoffs!

I think there are some very interesting match-ups in this game. Valley is not flashy in the backfield, but very solid. Their backs are deceptively strong and quick, and when they run behind Hettinger and Dunn, they can get downhill in a hurry. Minford does a great job of getting the edge, and I don't think I've seen two guards pull and get on the perimeter like #50 and #56 for the Falcons. Those two kids get the most out of what they have...great motors and both have a great feel for leading the back to space. That being said, I really feel like the strength of the Valley defense is playing sideline to sideline. Hettinger and his cohorts on the D-line do such a great job of occupying blockers that their LB's are free to roam sideline to sideline and make tackles...and they do. I don't really think either team wants to get in a situation where they have to pass the football to win, but after seeing both teams, I think Valley is much more effective in the passing game. If Minford can't throw the football effectively and becomes too one-dimensional, this Valley defense can make some things happen. Good luck to both teams this week and in week 11...two classy programs that deserve their success!

Oh I saw where your own Burg fans ran you off the BURG VS WEST thread, so now you want to come over here and stir the pot with your pie hole?

Hilarious. Get ran off by your own. Shows where you are on the totem pole. LOL.

I think it's important for Minford to come out, get the ball and have a physical first drive. I hope we win the coin toss, and strike first!

Good post.

I agree with most of what you said. Minford will have to get a couple bodies on Hettinger. It should be a good matchup between McCrae and Hettinger up front. McCrae doesnt play much defensively unless it is a short yardage or goal line situation, but offensively they should line up across each other. However Minford may give up that matchup and move McCrae away from that side to try to expose the other side of Valley's defensive line. Last year when Valley faced Ridgewood, they ran for the most part away from the really good kid playing DE from Ridgewood with success. Minford will probably try to do the same thing.

I dont agree that Valley is more effective in the passing game however, especially in this matchup. The reason is Farrar and Berry both play excellent coverage on receivers. Farrar is probably the best DB in the SOC II this year and is tough to throw on given his height, athleticism and ability to stay right with the receiver.

The keys for Minford to win this game will be
1.) Ability to block Hettinger and limit his ability to make plays defensively
2.) Berry, Carter, Justice and Piquett will have to get to the second level of Valley's defense consistently and bust big rushing plays. Berry and Carter should get a minimum of 10 carries each this game. Minford should be able to grind out tough yards between the tackles, but that will really open up if they can start busting sweeps off the edge and make Valley's defense play more out of the box.
3.) Minford's LB group has to play their rear ends off and stop the Valley run. #24 has been playing well and #30 (freshman) missed the Burg game due to injury and has really looked good all year since he took over the other starting LB role. Justice #21 will have to be all over the place and come up with another big night on defense. That kid is smaller but puts his nose on the football and is a hawk on defense.
4.) Give yourself a chance offensively to move the sticks by protecting the football. No turnovers.

Great post, especially about the backs, Berry has to have his touches.

Minford did move the ball on Burg, it was the turnovers and digging themselves in a hole with bad snaps that fizzeled out drives. Burg in the first half against Minford ran 3 trick plays, a WR reverse pass, HB pass, and a QB throwback. When a team has to resort to this, it tells me the defense has their number. The second half the D was on the field all night and it showed. With the offensive turnovers the game got out of hand, and Burg starting in Falcon territory most of the night wore the Falcon defense down, thus the 35-7 score.

For Minford to win against Valley, they have to take care of the ball and keep the defense at least starting on the other side of the 50 and not give Valley the ball in their own territory after 3 and out or turnovers. Minford and Valley match-up well in this contest and I feel it will be a game that will be decided by a score or less, and by whomever makes the fewest mistakes. Could come down to a game of field position and who has the best punter to pin the other team deep in their own territory. This is a trap game for Valley coming off a big win against the Pirates, so they have everything to lose here being the outright SOCII title. Both teams will make the playoffs regardless of the outcome.

No way this is is a "trap" game for Valley....they WILL be ready to play.

Interested to see if folks think this matchup will provide a 7-0, 14-7, 7-6 type finish, or a high scoring affair?

This a pretty good assessment, except for the "trap" game part. Normally a trap game involves a team playing a lesser opponent on the road after a big win. An 8-1 opponent in a rivalry game, with the conference and a home playoff game on the line doesn't really meet the criteria of the "trap" game. I agree with how these teams match up and what you feel Minford has to do to win, but I think its a reach to think the Indians are looking past this weeks matchup.

I look for a 21-7 Valley win... I think it's a one score game until late in the 4th. I believe the Indians will wear Minford down up front and start pulling away.

From the looks of computer points and how they sit. Looks like Minford will get a home game win or lose. The only that that will change is they will jump to 3 with a win and stay at 4 with a loss. Either way it looks like they will host.
Heres the projection from http://fantastic50.net/Ohio_Brackets.php

Region 15 Projections
1) St Clairsville (10-0) 28.41
2) Ironton (6-3) 23.89
3) Johnstown-Monroe (Johnstown) (8-2) 16.75
4) Minford (8-2) 15.25
5) Piketon (8-2) 15.02
6) Indian Valley (Gnadenhutten) (6-4) 13.81
7) Harrison Central (Cadiz) (7-3) 11.80
8 ) Unioto (Chillicothe) (6-4) 10.88

Tonight is the annual Bonfire and pep rally for the backyard brawl between Minford and Valley. Probably starts right after dark. Not sure exact time. Come support this fine football team and these fine football players and coaches. This will be an excellent night for a pep rally. Bring your small children to meet the football team. They will be passing out trick or treat candy to all the kids. Come out, support your team and have a good night.
