New season for Fort Frye, with some new faces on team.

New young coach that I watched grow up just down Third Street in Lowell. Fine young man that was one of Fort Fryes best on the court back in the day.

Hope he can be hard enough on the boys to make them the best that they can be.

I would not be so quick to jump Caldwell that high. As you know their coach is my brother, and while he really likes his team, they are as young as it gets for a varsity team. Your league is going to be pretty good top to bottom from what he has told me, they have one kid who was a varsity player back. Wouldn't jump the gun. I'm sure they will compete but young teams have growing pains no matter how talented they may be.

Fort Frye has a scrimmage at Meadowbrook vs West M and the Colts.

Yes, they will be young, but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibilities that they end up that high. While they lose experience, they gain, IMO, more well rounded basketball players. Teams won't be able to key on weichman quite as much. He'll actually have other players around him that can score on a consistent basis when needed. They'll have size, speed, and athleticism. By the end of the year, lack of experience shouldn't be much of a factor. They've all been in big games before, including the freshman. I think they'll do just fine. Shenandoah is also a possibility to be up there, but I don't think they really have much outside of hurst and Neuhart.

Young teams tend to struggle with the physicality and quickness of varsity basketball. That being said at least they have skill now

Fort Frye dominated the scrimmage only losing 2 qts by a total of 2 points.I like how the offense moved getting easy baskets.Seth Legrean had a nice days but missed some free throws.

The FF, Meadowbrook, WM scrimmage went as expected. Sloppy play by all three teams. FF won the scrimmage.
FF went 1-1-1 vs West
Meadowbrook went 2-1 vs West
FF went 2-1 vs Meadowbrook

For a first scrimmage we had ups and downs (more downs than ups). Coaches at this point are experimenting and there are 1 million things to cover in November. Excited to see progress by our next scrimmage.

Yea I want to see what Fort Frye looks like vs John Glenn and Marietta on Friday.Also Cadets suppose to scrimmage Athens but they're still playing football.

With the amount of things that go on for players before the season with open gyms, camps, AAU, etc. the amount of time it takes for players to adjust to the varsity level isn't what it used to be, IMO. All the jitters should be gone within the first couple games.

Really good scrimmage to watch @ Crooksville last night.
1st quarter: Caldwell led 9-2 and let it slip away, took a few bad shots at the end of the quarter.

2nd quarter: Caldwell led 10-5 with two minutes to go and made similar mistakes to the first quarter.

3rd quarter: Coach used a four guard line up that really played well together.

4th quarter: Couldn't hold the lead once again.

5th quarter: Coach tore in to Wiechman, sat him almost the entire quarter. We missed several easy looks, they are going to have to learn to play without him on the floor.

6th quarter: Handled the pressure much better this quarter. Four guard line up again did well.

I thought that we played really well. Crooksville's coach talked to us afterward, he said he expected them to compete at the top of their league this year. They were big and strong. Had a 6'7 kid in the middle with skills and a true "Power" forward around 6'4 270 who the parents said is getting D1 football looks. Their point is their best player, really skilled. He didn't play this summer when they beat River in our shoot out championship. They have two really nice athletic wings who can shoot and played three good athletes off the bench.
Our weakness was easily our post. Baker held his own but the other two aren't very strong. I know we won't play anyone as physically strong as them all year but our posts have to get better. We didn't rebound real well from what I saw either. Our guard play is really good, we can flat out shoot the ball. Wiechman is a freaking stud, he added a bunch of muscle and is way better then last year. I think coach had to be happy for the first time out for such a young team playing a good team.
