I just don't get it Burg. Looking through the stats on burgfan and Burg was throwing the ball anywhere from 20-25 times a game. Last night, up until that last drive they had attempted around 12 passes. Why pick a HUGE game like that to establish a running game when the pass was there all night?
Valley had no one that could cover Dylan Miller. When the Burg did pass it was alays trying to throw the bomb for the big gainer. They proved that the little short route over the middle or on the sideline was there. I know Valley was playing a prevent defense on that last drive but it the pass was still there and the o-line gave himm plenty of time to throw.
It was almost like they didn't want to show everything in this game and save it fo if they meet in the playoffs.

Nice of Burg to not show everything and let Valley win. Whatever! They gave it everything they had. Both teams did. Maybe the rain had an effect on playcalling?

Burg got wore down and outcoached in the 4th quarter!Their players hadn't been hit like they were last night!Quickest I have ever seen an away team get on the bus and leave in all of my years watching football!Guess they wanted out of the "Prison"
Re: Week 9: Wheelersburg (7-1, 3-0) @ Valley (8-0, 3-0)
i'm not sure what the Pirate coaches were thinking on the goal line. Horrible play calling u ran a qb sneak on 4th down when there stud d=lineman has dominated the center all night? The pirates game plan was terrible. What happen to the short pass game? Valley did dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Why did we go away from the things that has worked all year. BURG GOT OUT COACHED! Valley deserves the credit! I hope we don't see Valley again. Not winning the SOC is a huge failure and can't be accepted. Get it together!

Thats just sad. Burg didnt let Valley win. Valley was just a better team last night. Anyone who seen the game know that the Refs were horrible and Valley got jobbed quite a few times. Reguardless, these are the best 2 teams in the region and you can almost guarentee these 2 teams will meet again.

Re: Week 9: Wheelersburg (7-1, 3-0) @ Valley (8-0, 3-0)
Wow wow wow! What a great high school football game.
The Valley defense was outstanding last night. Wheelersburg flat out could not run the football. The Valley front got after it and swarmed to the ball all night long. The Indians have given up 26 points in conference play. That makes it a little easier to win the title. Wheelersburg is a very good football team and I think we may see them again, but last night Valley flat wore them out. The Valley offense line had a saddle on its back in the second half, and they delivered.
Individually, there were some great performances. Nate Arnett was Nate Arnett. The kid is a player and he showed up big time last night. He ran the ball well and was everywhere on defense. Will Howard was great. Coming into the season, there were a lot of people that doubted Will and thought that the quarterback spot was the glaring weakness on the team. The quarterback spot is a strength. Will is a flat out bull and has turned into quite the play maker. He never goes down on 1st contact and seems to always make the right read. He is not the thrower that Blake Yates was, but he has progressed to the point that the Valley passing game is a weapon. Ethan Clark-Holbrook has became a different player the past few weeks. He appears to be becoming Will's favorite target and that paid off last night. Ethan made a couple of key catches in big situations and they were huge for the offense. JJ Hettinger is a monster. I don't really know any other way to put it. Teams can flat out not run the ball at this "kid". He never lets up. Hayden Dunn didn't catch a ball last night, but he did a great job against the run and was a beast blocking on the edge.
There are so many things to say about the program at Valley. There were a lot of posts about how Valley had a great class go through and that Valley couldn't sustain success. Well, they are back to back champions of the league. They are going back to the playoffs again. Valley only has a handful of seniors playing. There are a ton of Juniors playing and 3 freshmen played huge rolls last night. The Indians have won the league twice in the 7 years they have been in it. I don't think anyone is going to dominate the SOC, but the road to the title will run through Lucasville for at least the next few years.

There were a couple of questionable calls, but why even bring it up? Our kids busted their humps last night and won a championship. Who gives a rat a$$ about the officials? Enjoy the win and can the b/s about the officiating.nutronron2012 wrote:Thats just sad. Burg didnt let Valley win. Valley was just a better team last night. Re: Week 9: Wheelersburg (7-1, 3-0) @ Valley (8-0, 3-0)
As stated earlier, the pass interference was waived off because it was not an eligible receiver. The throw also didn't make it to the line of scrimmage. Burg motioned to an unbalanced line before the play... The officiating was suspect, but they got that call right. The pass interference on Burg's last drive was extremely weak too.
The Valley kids showed a ton of guts late in that game. Very proud of the entire team, not only on this win but on this season... They were told they couldn't win, they were told they lost too much, they were told that last season wouldn't happen again, and now they've repeated as SOC champs and will be hosting a playoff game.

The waived off pass interference was the correct call. I don't think the ball got back to the line of scrimmage but I could be wrong. On that play Eddie realized our DE was much faster than him, and he wasn't getting away from Hodges on that play.

The best team won hands down Valley is much stronger and it showed ! On a side note Burg coaching staff better get a handle on some behavorial problems or it will cost them come playoff time !

I thought the officials did a pretty good job. I think these two teams are different but even. valley is more physical while burg is a passing team. The passing was not there last night for burg. congrats to the Indians. and good luck against minford.NTHZONE wrote:The best team won hands down Valley is much stronger and it showed ! I would still like to know what the call was on the one play when Eddie was going back, clearly threw the ball out of bounds and that was where they marked the ball. Somehow they claimed that was a fumble. It should have been at least intentional grounding.
The pass interfernce on that last drive was a good call. I don't get how people don't undeerstand that once that player is downfield and the pass is coming his way, the defender can't touch him or in that instance, block the receiver from getting to the ball like the Valley defender did. Sure, he tried to hold up but he didn't and he made contact without making a play for the ball.
Like was said, officiating didn't cost the Burg this game, their coaching staff did. Yes, Valley was able to stuff the Burg's running game and still yet they kept trying to run up the middle. I don't see how you can go from avearging 20-24 passes a game to only throwing it 12 up until that last drive. Weather was not a factor after the 1st qtr. It had stopped raining after that and the passing lanes were there. If something was working so well, why go away with it.

How can you say the passing wasn't there? It was there, they just didn't throw it enough. They had only attempted 12 passes up until that last drive and most of those were Eddie just dropping back and heaving it downfield hoping the receiver can go get it. Sure, that had worked in the past but the short pass across the middle of the out pattern was there all night. Valley's deep safety was withing 8-10 yards of the ball. Dylan Miller had single coverage all night and out of the two-to three times they threw it in that coverage, the Valley defender grabbed him on one of the plays and another he caught. That matchup should have been exploited more.

You're absolutely right. I shouldn't have brought that up and I apologize for doing so. Just glad it didn't change the outcome of the game. Very proud of this team. It is a tremendous accomplishment.Crab's brother wrote:There were a couple of questionable calls, but why even bring it up? Our kids busted their humps last night and won a championship. I thought Valley took away the rollout very well. They forced Eddie to throw it from the pocket and he is just not as effective that way.
I thought for the most part that the officials let the kids decide the game. That is all you can ask for. The only thing I want is a white hat that makes call and knows what in the world is going on. There are going to be missed/blown calls. Just make the call and administer the game.

It was comical to watch on VSN....there would be a call, and he would never signal it...he would just yell it to the sidelines..LOLCrab's brother wrote:I thought Valley took away the rollout very well. They forced Eddie to throw it from the pocket and he is just not as effective that way.
