Problem is shine once you get them started on soccer they won't stop unless we want a bunch of field goal kickers :122247

Of course the same could be said about many other actiives and sports also, but normally only certain small skilled kids play soccer. BUT after the last two years we could use an improvement in the area of field goal kicking! But the main point is the tomahawks need to be on the same program as the varsity!

i just want the two programs to develop a working relationship. to have coach burk and staff help the tomahawk coaches and foster the tomahawk program.
if you dont start them out until 6th grade they are aready 3 yrs behind almost every program. you have to start them in 3rd grade just to keep pace.

my nephew Justin didn't start till 5th or 6th grade and he wasn't behind...he took right off and never looked back...some kids get discouraged ,,,,cause when I watch the Tomahawks there is TOO MUCH OF KIDS GOING BOTH WAYS.....instead of getting all kids involved.....think that needs to change....should be more about teaching and not so much about playing kids both ways....for one reason they get tired going both ways and thats when injuries occur.... 8) :!:

good point bird, another thing I notice is that alot of the city pee-wee or little league programs for any sport (basketball, baseball, football, soccer) seem to sometimes be more about the parents than player development across the board.

if you want to take a group of exceptionally talented kids and play travel soccer or baseball or AAU basketball that is one thing, but the city youth programs need to focus on everyone's development not just the parent-coach kids' development

just a general observation, because you never know what 8 or 9 year old is going to develop into when he or she is 15 or 16.

Good points guy's, At the youth level participation and the basics in all sports are important in the development of young athletes! I understand every one want to win, but many years ago when I coach youth baseball I made a point to play all my kids at least 3 innings! Development is the key. I even started my less skilled players and most of the time we won and we played everyone So in the 3rd, 4th and even the 5th grades let them experience all different sports and not burn the kid out on one sport only!

Some facts here from a former Head Coach ................... most H.S. coaches don't CARE about youth programs. Yes its nice to participate, but overzealous youth league coaches have ruined ( or run off) many promising athletes. That is something most Head Coaches HATE ! Its not important that the youth run the high school O or D ( that may change by the time they get there). KIds haven't developed (and are years away from being developed physically) so the emphasis should be on participation and HAVING FUN. KIds who sit out youth sports miss NOTHING in prep for Varsity. Starting in 8th grade is early enough to get development ( and some kids don't come out till they are 10th or higher and do well). Fundamentals are not something that happens at youth level, even with good instruction because of physical limitations. Let them grow. Let them mature. Blood & guts are for the Varsity, not the youth league programs.

I have NEVER seen lack of athletes at Logan . The problem is sometimes getting them out for Varsity but usually its a discipline problem or attitude I'm great -- play me. Add in a few a-hole parents who have no clue to Jr's real abilities and you'll find a down Logan year ( or years).

I agree C-Bolt. Looks like some of those soccer players would have made pretty good football players over the years. Not all of them was small kids. I seen some that was pretty tall looking and fast.
