If Athens wins, they are ineligible to host.. No team still in playoffs can host games.indianabuck wrote:Remember, the field has to be turf now. That takes Lancaster out. Nelsonville or Athens makes sense depending on where they play the Newark Catholic vs Trimble game. I can see Logan as a possible site for that game. Athens may not want to host if they win tomorrow also. Another option would be closer to Columbus like Hamilton Township.

You can still host a 2nd round game if you are still playing, just not on the same night you are playing.

I can't find that list anywhere...I know they used to have that somewhere90buckeye wrote:The list of potential round 2 host sites from the OHSAA indicates that Ironton/Johnstown will be at Logan; Newark Catholic/Trimble will be at Sheridan; and Nelsonville-York will host the St. Clairsville/Piketon game. Region 12 lower bracket would go to Hamilton Twp. Final sites will be announced by 3 PM Sunday.
Re: Thoughts on site for Ironton vs. Johnstown-Monroe
The list is not published anywhere as it is only sent to those schools who have submitted applications to host.
As for being ineligible to host if your team is in the playoffs, that is not true. The state called NY three years ago and asked if we could host if we were still in the playoffs. The concern was that we would not have enough people to pull it off, but many of our key people (concessions, press box crew, chain gang, etc.) did not have any kids playing football and we were able to commit if the opportunity presented itself.
For the upper half of region 23, the potential sites were either Athens or Westerville South. Athens would be out now that Symmes Valley lost. West. South seems to be a logical choice.
With all of this being said, there is a new sheriff in town at the OHSAA since Zaborniak's departure. The new guy is very on top of things, but only began working three weeks ago, so he has a lot to learn. Any potential sites they originally listed could change. We should all know for sure by 3 PM tomorrow.

Athens would be the most centrel spot for both teams I think and both regoins play on different days so a athens win would not be a schedule conflict

Some miscellaneous thoughts
- Logan would be at the bottom of my list of sites mentioned so that's where it'll probably be
- Jackson would be great, as would Burg, Portsmouth, Oak Hill to name but a few.
- Friday night's attendance was pitiful at best.

Rumor around Athens today is that we will be hosting this game from a fairly solid source.

Looks like the Tigers will be in Athens for the next round. Super Excited!!! Love that field and an excellent area for tailgating
Re: Thoughts on site for Ironton vs. Johnstown-Monroe
athens high school, well...is this a first. I thought it was OU
Re: Thoughts on site for Ironton vs. Johnstown-Monroe
Athens is a fair spot for both teams about same driving time to each just ashame theses regions are so big but understandable why they are.

This will be at the high school for sure, I was there working the press box for an area youth football championship when it came through. Tailgating can/has be done in the school parking lot just above the stadium but the field across from the stadium that we used in the past for that purpose is being transformed into the new softball field and is roped off. The old softball field will be turned into a parking lot that will be ideal for tailgating but won't happen until spring. Tiger fans if you need advice on food or anything else just ask, I'll be glad to give my opinions.CameraGuy wrote:Athens High School just came up on OHSAA site

I think this will be Ironton's first playoff appearance at Athens High School although the Fighting Tigers have had regular season games there; plus several playoff games at Ohio U's Peden Stadium in Athens.
And a heads up for those few who don't know... Athens HS is not in Athens but rather a few miles away in The Plains.
