How did yesterday's scrimmage go?

wipala: I am not overlooking Piketon at all........but I think there are 3-4 teams on our schedule better than the Redstreaks........Piketon will be very good, and the Trojans could come away with a loss to them (I picked us to lose 7 games), but I don't think they are as good as Ironton, Brookhaven, or Warren.......maybe Johnson Central, but I don't know a lot about them other than they have all 5 starters back from their Sweet 16 team.

From pfloyd's thread about today's scrimmage with Unioto:

Just left the Portsmouth/Unioto scrimmage. Unioto won 4 quarters, Portsmouth won 1 and they tied 1. Unioto has much more depth and interior size, but Portsmouth's athleticism is outstanding. Carter struggled from the outside early, but caught fire late. He looks like he's ready to take over as the man for Coach Collins. Levi Porter will be able to stretch out bigs and the pg (#1) is very quick and can knock it down from deep. Portsmouth should have another nice season and will be matchup problems for everyone they play this year.
Unioto looked very good outside of one quarter with a lot of backups in, but was solid on D and Detillion had his way inside.

Heard Trojans did very well Wednesday at Waverly. Today I also heard Kyre Allison was out of town but allowed others to get some minutes. Can't believe this time next week will be at South Webster for first game.

A few notes thus far after 4 games:

The Trojans played 7 of 8 players vs. Ironton with no varsity experience whatsoever coming into the season.......and yet took one of Ohio's best D3 teams to the wire (49-48 with 30 seconds left).

Freshman Kyre Allison has scored double figures in 3 of 4 games.......while sophomore Sky Oliver has a double digit game as well.......Jayllen Carter is averaging 27.2 PPG, with an all-time Trojan best 44 points vs. Jackson.

The 23 turnovers vs. Ironton was the difference in the game, but it was still a 1 point game with 30 seconds left......and the turnovers will go down as the season progresses.

PHS shot 50% from the field and 90% from the line vs. Ironton.......compared to 22% from the field and 30% from the stripe vs. South Webster.......in just 1 week, the Trojans are a much better team now than the one that started 10 days ago.

Portsmouth has held their own on the boards, which was a concern before the season.......if they can continue to do that, this team has a very high ceiling.
