Greg Estep would not even be in the top 5 of the leading candidates except for the fact that he has family connections.

I find that hard to believe with his resume. Let's not talk about what he did in Charlotte as an assistant. As a head coach at West Minister Academy in Fort Lauderdale Fl. He turned a program around that was on a 16 game losing streak. Thier first season they went 7-3 and his 2nd going 6-4. That's an overnight turnaround, pretty impressive. Then couple it with his work as a strength and conditioning coach with the Padres organization that's a pretty good start to a resume. He is a proven winner already and the fact that he is a former Trojan that wants to come home and help is a positive to me.

I won't say he is the most qualified or top five cause I can't without knowing all applicants. But if we have 5 more qualified then him with a proven record of success then we set up with some great candidates. I dont know how you know that though.

Please explain who your top five are and provide us with thier qualifications

Westminster Academy in Fort Lauderdale is an independent school playing other private, parochial or religious schools in that area.

Danny Kanell played there. They also have a history of a great track program.

Greg Estep does have a great resume'. I wish him good luck during the interview process. However, as we all know, nepotism is rampant within Portsmouth City Schools.

That being said, he won't need any luck.

Trojan_FB_Alum, is Duncan OK for Portsmouth's next head coach or is he a no-go because you didn't play with him at Portsmouth?

I guess there's been about 40 applications, and they are supposed to name the new head coach by Christmas.

Who is running the weight program for the football team in the absence of a head coach?

Please don't tell me that they are not lifting until after a new head coach is named.

I do not believe this.

This is a rumor and not based upon any factual information.

Interesting.

But, I still do not believe it.

It is not realistic to expect Estep to come from a Christian school system playing other parochial/private schools and have him magically be able to coach in a public school system with all of the attitudes and distractions that occur there.

This is why he is not one of the top 5 candidates for this position.

You are actually not im my opinion helping your campaign for Newsome. You are really looking quite rediculous, and it's really humorous and quite frankly a little embarrasing. If I was Coach Newsome and had a supporter running these boards like you are with your persona.... wow I would certainly be embarrased. If Anything your rediculousness displayed on a consistent basis including your really appropriate avatar HURTS your candidate's chances.

Having Newsome as the Head Coach would be the same as having Clifford back at the helm. It would make no sense to hire him as the HC.

I'm sure the decision will be between one of the three due to all of them are teachers and possible money that could be saved without filling the retirement spot of Clifford by adjusting teachers around to fill the opening. AD or Chad will be your next Head coach in Portsmouth either one brings energy back to the program. Newsome and his wife have both been involved with coaching other sports an showed no excitement or care torwards those teams or squads an were replaced. So that could possibly hurt Newsome gone into this race.
Ted Newsome's sport is football.

Period.

He would bring untapped energy to the football program.

No, Clifford is running the weight program until the new coach comes in. At the banquet Clifford said, "Im gonna push you just as hard in the weight room as if I was coming back next year."

Well if he is living up to his word, it's quite sad, because I heard he doesn't make the kids stay and that football weights are a joke. Coach Rhea's basketball weight program is 10x harder than the football program is what I've heard.
