As someone outside the program, I think the best choice is to bring in someone young that is from Portsmouth. I am not saying that Greg Estep is the answer, but someone similar to that is the best choice in my opinion. I truly believe that you need to find someone that people will be patient with and someone who doesn't have plans to use the PHS job as a stepping stone. I use the current situations at Valley and Minford as great examples. Both schools have graduates running their programs, and both are very successful on the local and regional scene. Coach Crabtree took over Valley in 1990 and I believe he was 25-26 years old. He went 3-17 in the first 2 years, but the community supported him and he is 175-48, with 10 league titles, 7 playoff births, and 4 regional final appearances since.

I think Portsmouth should go with a young graduate that can relate to the kids. The Trojans are a sleeping giant, they just need some fresh blood to wake them up.

Oh great Kentucky Trojan with all of your infinite wisdom and football knowledge please lead us all to our next head coach. It is only through you that we may be able to find a suitable candidate so we may be able to experience such great seasons as the teams you have coached. After all I think you are currently around 30% victories for all your great carrer. Obviously only you have the answers to solve our dilemma.

Has Estep ever been a head coach or an assistant coach at a public high school?

I believe the answer is "No".

He sliped my mind. Don't know if he would be up for a head job right now but I'd love to have him back on the staff. KT probably already disqualified him cause he play with me though too lol.

0-3 frosh at GCHS. Horrible team. No OL or DL. We scored 1 TD in 3 games. (Yes, we only played 3 games.) We lost to Coal Grove, Russell, and Raceland in 2006.

7-2 JV at GRC in 2012. 4-0 at home. 4-1 vs. the 5 public Lexington teams. Lost to Scott County and Bryan Station. Defeated Johnson Central 52-0.

Bruce Kalb spends too much time with his ladies to be a head coach in high school football.
