Re: Portsmouth Trojan's Next Head Football Coach
There are two options for the job. If you go outside its AJ Pratt. This is assuming he even wants the job. If you stay inside its Chad Hammond. For those of you who don't really even know Chad I would expect the above ignorant comments. Without going into great detail Chad is a leader who will simply get the job done. He will surround himself with positive people on his staff and let them coach like he hired them to do. He is a weight lifting guru who should have been in charge of the weights all along and he is a natural born leader. And for the two peopple who made the above comments? Why was Chad not given full reign over the weight program when everyone knows his weightlifting background? Secondly how many of the best athletes on last years team played defense due to injuries or the head coaches decision to only use them on offense? Wedebrook? No Charles? No Dickerson? No Oliver? No Albrecht? No Grashel? No Robinson? No Not saying some of these guys didn't get in here and there on defense but were definitely not a major.part of the defensive game plan. With that said and considering the lack of depth they have in the first place... yes his hands were tied just a " bit". AJs resume speaks for itself and quite honestly it would hard not to give him the job if he wants it but all the other candidates are not the answer.

Clifford was ultimately responsible for the entire team. The players that Chad Hammond had for defense were not prepared to play fast and tough.fbnut wrote:I agreedreamweaver wrote:That is a bunch of bull.
This points directly to the head coach.

Clifford failed to properly prepare his team to be at their maximum level for the assistant coaches to perform their jobs.fbnut wrote:Who called the D during the games?
I did not go to any games this season. Did he run the same defense (4-4) that Burke ran?
What defense would have been better suited for this group of players?
Do you have anything else to offer other than attacking the assistant coaches?
We all know that the head coach called the shots on his team and they have not changed their defense for years.

All that is fine but you didn't answer my question. If you don't know just say I don't know.Kentucky Trojan wrote:Clifford failed to properly prepare his team to be at their maximum level for the assistant coaches to perform their jobs.fbnut wrote:Who called the D during the games?

That was answering your question.fbnut wrote:All that is fine but you didn't answer my question. If you don't know just say I don't know.
They have run the same defense since forever. The only constant during that time period was Clifford.

The question has been answered, but I will explain it one more time.fbnut wrote:Who called the defense during the games?Kentucky Trojan wrote:That was answering your question.fbnut wrote:All that is fine but you didn't answer my question. If you don't know just say I don't know.

Clifford was the head coach and he did not change HIS defense from the 4-4!!!

Every play a coach calls a defensive call just like a coach calls an offensive play every snap. Who was calling the D on every play?

Again, the head coach is ultimately responsible for the offensive and defensive units on the field.fbnut wrote:Every play a coach calls a defensive call just like a coach calls an offensive play every snap. Who was calling the D on every play?
If the head coach believes that the offensive or defensive calls are not made correctly through the course of the game, then it is the head coach's responsibility to either replace the OC or DC....or take over the calls himself. If the head coach fails to make changes due to incorrect calls, then it is the head coach who is to blame for not leading his team properly.

Since you either don't know or just refuse to answer does anyone else care to answer the question.Kentucky Trojan wrote:Again, the head coach is ultimately responsible for the offensive and defensive units on the field.fbnut wrote:Every play a coach calls a defensive call just like a coach calls an offensive play every snap. I will have to use a line that you will most likely understand since it has been used for 20+ years within the Portsmouth Trojan football program.
"You obviously have never coached high school football."
I now understand why Clifford stayed in control for so long. Many of you bought into the line that it was never Clifford's fault. It must have been the assistant coaches' problem or the players' inability to play for Clifford or work hard in the off-season.
Unbelievable!
I shall return later.
Unbelievable!

All that typing and still no answer. You should really consider politics.

Re: Portsmouth Trojan's Next Head Football Coach
I have been told by past asst coaches that they would game plan all week with a certain defensive scheme and then the HC would change things up on Thursday walk through. One past asst even told me that is the sole reason he is no longer involved because he was essentially hired to do nothing. None of these assistants should be seen as clones to the head coach. Anyone that has been around knows that was a common complaint among asst coaches is that they weren't allowed to do what he hired them to do. A classic example is why was chad Hammond not in total control of weights? Answer: didn't want to give up control. The same goes for defense, offense, and special teams... The HC called the shots every single one of them. Chad had no input on who he even had playing defense. Which of the teams better athletes played defense? Wedebrook? No Charles? No Albrecht? No Oliver? No grashel? No Dickerson? No Robinson? No. Some may have played D here and there but none were really incorporated into the defensive scheme. Two easy tweaks to improve the defense... Improve the weight program which Chad would do.... Play the best athletes on both sides of the ball if need be... Which chad would do... And create an attitude and some tenacity which chad would do through the weights and just his personality...Chad Hammond is a hidden gem to those who don't truly know him... Sounds like several on here don't... And yes he has had his hands tied and been given the "leftovers" as a DC... By the way Kentucky Trojan has played and coached at a high level so he is not some Internet coach giving his uneducated opinion

Re: Portsmouth Trojan's Next Head Football Coach
WOW!! I am way out here in Arizona and even I can read between the lines...I agree....the HEAD COACH is the one in charge whether he is the one that is actually making a particular offense or defense call...IF he does not like the call HE has the power to change it....PERIOD...
Clifford had a long run at PHS and now it is time for change,,not just for the sake of change but for the sake of
the football program at PHS...Only time will tell us if the right decison will be made...however,,,I sure hope the Bored of
Education takes the time to think this thru and get the best for the team and the school..not just another clone...and yes the Bored was spelled this way on purpose...Keep after them Kentuck... :12223
