Re: GAHS FOOTBALL 2013
Gallipolis mixed up the offense with just about every kid playing with every other kid at one point or the other . Even mixed QBs up some. Figure they r going to be fast paced and will need lots of depth and subs to keep that pace . Played fair overall. Have 2 7-7s next week so we will see more then
D is going to be young with only 3-4 back from last year. Pretty hard to really tell much till we get the pads on and get the big boys smackin around up front .

I say 6-4 not official i will post later
I think Coach Saunders has earned the right to not have to "keep his mouth shut". If it werent for what he did for our program, we would be back like we were before the early 80's. The new Coach has the final say but if he doesnt take Coach Saunders opinions on things, he's doing a disservice to the program.

Re: GAHS FOOTBALL 2013
7 on 7 at valley and 7 on 7 at alexander.
My take on this weeks action is that this team is behind almost every other team at this point of the year but i think that was to be expected with new coach and having to replace several players. the team did not look good in any of the 7 games the played the last 2 days. with that said all in all i do not think that the team is in bad shape. Warnimont has not played a down yet on offense or defense, cast is off though and he was catching some passes on side will not be long until he is ready to go, that will make a huge difference in our defense. Eastman did not partake in 7 on 7 this week think he was at something for basketball another big piece of the puzzle on offense and defense. We are still playing 15 to 20 kids in each 7 on 7. and in 20 minute rolling clock games like yesterday that is not a lot of snaps. especially when we are still mixing and matching. we have played very few downs against anyone that i would say we had all our 1's in at same time. even 1's and 2 's have not played a ton together.
Things i have been impressed with is we have plenty of depth at skilled positions with the exception of qb. i would like to see us have one more person get snaps there. i am glad this team has 3 scrimmages this year. i think it will take all of them for us to be ready. with that said 3 scrimmages is a ton of chances to get kids hurt.
After last year my hopes were for another league title and another playoff appearance. i still have those same hopes but they seem a little farther away right now. i have heard folks in stands at 7 on 7's talking about going 10-0 or 9-1. i would love to do either of those but i have thought all along that 8-2 would be a great season and still feel the same way. the big hurdle will be Athens week 1 getting a new offense under are belt and having 3 or 4 new kids in back 7 on defense may be a bit much to ask against a team that returns this much fire power.
the lines are still a concern mainly from a size standpoint not a strength standpoint. they looked very strong and finished 2nd out of 8 teams at lineman challenge. i think the line might be a pleasant surprise for people.

Re: GAHS FOOTBALL 2013
Good rundown kvn. I'm sure the new staff and fresh faces at GA will have things righted before week 1 against Athens. There are only a handful of programs around here that 5-5, 6-4 is a down year, and Gallia is one of them. I'm certain the Devils will hit that mark or better by the end of the year.

Re: GAHS FOOTBALL 2013
as far as 7 on 7 at valley. Valley looked OK. Better then we looked but overall could not tell a lot. the team that shocked me was rock hill. I am not saying they are world beaters but considering their record last couple of years i did not expect much. Offensively they were different looking in 7 on 7's then any team we have faced and they beat on us like a drum. i don't think i would be exaggerating to say they completed probably close to 70% of their passes against us but i am not sure how much of a passing team they will be in regular season. we need to figure that out before week 2 because they had kids wide open all day. defensively they have some work to do but not bad.

Agreed. I don't think much should be made of 7on 7's.
Can hardly wait for the 11 on 11's to begin.

Well good luck blue devils on your upcoming season wish you the best of luck. time for me to go into hibernation on the blue devil threads. as long as my boy is part of the program in season i try to keep my opinion to myself. he has plenty of coaches and other people to listen i do not need to be one more. good luck and hopefully it will be a season that runs late into November or early December.

Re: GAHS FOOTBALL 2013
Agree too. 7 on 7 is just practicing the fundamentals of passing and route running. plus the added benefit of a defense to help timing and pattern development. ADD in a big 275 nose guard breathing down the qb's back and that perfect route becomes useless. Its still fun to watch and does give somewhat of a gauge tho. IMO. I mean if you are bad in 7-7 u going to be even worse in 11-11. UNLESS you have a great line and good running backs .

Re: GAHS FOOTBALL 2013
Talked with coach Penrod last night. He sounded very optimistic about the season. He said the o and d is coming around for the boys and will be ready week 1. Athens game will be here before you know it.
What are predictions on the year?

Re: GAHS FOOTBALL 2013
well i must say that i was very pleased coming out of the scrimmage at valley. But boy if i could set down with the coach i would have a lot of questions. first of which is why is cole carter getting so many snaps at qb? are we that confident that Wade Jarrell has the offense down so pat that we have extra time to develop. Is it do to the new concussion rule because if i guy gets dinged he won't be aloud back on the field? Is he planning on using both? they definetley bring to different things to the table.
For a lot of you guys out there that has not scene this offense yet. if you did not like the wing-t and the play calling you are not going to like this offense. we do a lot of 4 wide and we spread the field but every single snap from shot gun and all the slow developing plays. Now for me i kind of like it when i heard we were going spread i thought we were going to start chucking it every where. even though i think we will throw it plenty it will be interesting. Qb gets hit a lot in this offense lots of option football. some read option. some old fashion option. On another thread someone wrote run blocking not great. now i am sure their were a few missed assignments. but this offense of scheme seems to set a lot of guys free and then we option around what the free guy does or just try to beat him to make a play.
I think coach will have a lot of decisions facing him. for this offense to really go i think you need production from all 6 skilled positions. I think we have about 9 skilled guys ready to go at this level maybe 10. problem is outside of eastman and warnimont and jarrell they are not complete players. We have a few guys that will be great running threats but on pass plays they seem to have hands of stone. and we have a few guys who could not break a tackle in 2 hand touch but catch everything even remotely close to them so maybe we will platoon personnel groups a little.
The lines offensive and defensive for at least first scrimmage a pleasant surprise they will not be a weakness.
Now i am not ready to say we are ready to beat athens by any means. if you would of asked me after last season coming in i would of considered us a 2 td underdog. new coach, new system. i thought we would get blown out. now i am back to thinking 2 td's but we still have 2 weeks to get better. because we know the A-Train will be ready that first Friday night.
at least 3 boys did not play tuesday that i think will be counted on this year. Wes Jarrell did not play, logan few did not play, and payton halley did not play. these boys may not all be starters but they all will see plenty of varsity action this year. The only one that i know reason they were out was payton halley for concussion.
hope for a great year. what was everyone else's take.

Be like earle bruce tellng urban meyer what plays to call in a totally different offense than he ran, saunders needs to sit back and watch!GAHS8610 wrote:Bevo wrote:Talent wise we could be as good as 8-2 having some of the staff back will help depends on how the old (saunders) meshes with the new ( mcclellan & barth.) drastic different styles and can saunders be an assistant coach keep his mouth shut?
