Re: Pfloyd's 2015-16 Preseason Elite 8 in Southern/SouthEast Ohio
Aaron Davis, NY, 24 points & 20 rebounds. Hunter Edwards 19 points. Nice 1-2 punch in the post for Coach Kline's Buckeyes.
They may not be a major factor in the Ohio Division race this year - but the core of PG Noah Andrews, PF Davis and SF Edwards (all three juniors) - could make em a contender next year if they continue to grow and get better as a team.

Re: Pfloyd's 2015-16 Preseason Elite 8 in Southern/SouthEast Ohio
Unioto 70
Logan 31 final ...
Both teams opened the 2015-16 regular season in Sherman Country Saturday night in the nightcap game of 5 games between the 2 schools - 3 boys games and 2 girls contests ... Logan split the 2 girls games (winning the varsity tilt losing the jv game by 1 point) ... the Chiefs won the Freshmen boys contest by 1 in OT, then handily taking the JV matchup ... which left the boys Varsity to round out the day ... the committee of one - me - has the Shermans of Coach Hoops ranked in the #1 slot in the preseason Elite 8 ...tonights performance only enhanced that ranking in my mind ... Wow ! Logan was taken out of the game right from the opening tip as Erique Hosley controlled the tip to a breaking Cole Cottrill for a two-handed dunk to start the game ... that was as close as the Chiefs would get all night as Hosley/Cotrill combined for 14 of the UHS first quarter 16 points ... Hosley was a man among boys as he owned the paint for 9 points in the quarter ... Unioto 16 Logan 5 end of 1 ... Quarter number 2 showcased the Sherman entire arsenal as Hosley pounded the paint for 5 more points while the "man in training" Isaac Wheeler (Big #2) added 6 more points down low ... the perimeter game was added to the mix as Cole Cottrill (20 pts)/ Branden Kennedy (two 3 pointers in the qtr) ... Logan dented the scoreboard for 12 points (the best qtr. output of the night for the Chiefs) led by Caiden Landis's 6 points ... Unioto 37 Logan 17 intermission ... this one was over as Logan would only score 14 more points in rest of the contest while Unioto with a constant mix of players (bench/starters) put up another 33 points on the night to take their home opener 70 - 31 a final ...
Pfloyd Official "unofficial" Napkin Stats - Logan
Scoring ... Caiden Landis 10, Lane Little 5, Sam Evans 4, Cole Baron 4, Isaiah Smith 4, Caleb Bell 2, Kory Henthorne 2
3 pointers ... 0/15
FT's ... 3/6
TOs ... 16
... lots of work to be done for the Purple of Logan ... tonights outcome was somewhat predictable in that the majority of the Logan practice time has been teaching the basics , learning a new system, little time - by Coach Kellough's own admission - devoted to the offensive end of the floor ... Chiefs went 0/15 from behind the 3 point line on the night ... Logan made only 1 fg outside of the blocks for the game ... the Purple took only 6 FTs on the night emphasizing the difficulty in establishing any type of inside presence ... a tough game for Logan to open with against arguably the BEST team in Southern/Southeastern Ohio ... I look for the Chiefs to build on this one ... as LHS gets more comfortable in the Kellough system the Chiefs will improve at both ends of the floor ...
Pfloyd Official "unofficial" Napkin Stats - Unioto
Scoring ... Cole Cottrill 20, Erique Hosley 14, Branden Kennedy 9, Logan Swackhammer 8, Clay Edler 7, Gabe Fisher 6, Isaac Wheeler 6
3 pointers ... 9/15 ... Cole Cottrill 4, Branden Kennedy 3, Logan Swackhammer 2
FT's ... 11/20
TOs ... 12
... not sure what else you can say about the Shermans of Coach Hoops ... they may just be the BEST "all around" TEAM in Southern/Southestern Ohio this season ... no weaknesses to scout imo ... the BIGS (more than one) Hosley/Wheeler are not overly tall BUT are as physically strong as you will find - men in the paint ... Hosley can/will/does get to the rim , has a nice touch from block to block ... Wheeler will keep improving in the middle all season, gets to the FT line AND is thick ! ... perimeter offense - Cottrill/Kennedy/Swackhammer ... ability to get to the rim from the perimeter - all of those mentioned PLUS Edler/Lovely/White/Fisher ... ball handling (check) ... defense pressure on the perimeter AND in the paint (check) ... depth - UHS goes easily 9 deep ...
... Tonight's game was a tale of 2 teams , one the Unioto Shermans who have a "system" in place to put a quality product on the court every season while Logan is in the beginning stages of taking a group of players who were in one program last season, placed in a new "system" this season - as the "teachings" of Coach Kellough become "2nd nature" where there is less "thinking" on the court and more reacting , once everything is in place at both ends of the court which won't be until after Christmas - it will be then that the Purple Nation will see "positives" coming each night out for the Logan ball club ...

Re: Pfloyd's 2015-16 Preseason Elite 8 in Southern/SouthEast Ohio
... an excellent first 2 days of hoops to start the 2015-16 campaign !!! I love it ... I got to take in 5 games ... 10 different teams including my #1 ranked Unioto, #2 Logan Elm, #4 Vinton County, #5 Chillicothe , #10 Circleville, #11 Logan, #16 Adena, #23 Washington CH ,#58 Piketon, Amanda CC ... I came away with some insight into where these teams stand at this early point in the season :
... it will take an outstanding team playing an outstanding game to beat Unioto - a "complete" TEAM in every way, which will just get better and better as the season moves on ... Logan Elm may be a little high on the list to start the season BUT they are a very very good TEAM with Ridge Young, Preston Schultz, Saxton, Smith, Paul, Clydesdale ... Schultz hitting the game winning 3 pointer to beat Chilli Friday night 42-39 ... Vinton County fell behind a very good Washington CH team 11-22 at the end of the 1st quarter Friday evening at ZT but came storming back behind Tristan Bartoe's 31 point performance to win going away 60-53 ... Court House will win their share of games behind Max Knisley and Cameron Eckles ... right behind Unioto in making the BIGGEST impression on me the opening weekend was the Circleville Tigers - outstanding coaching in first year head man Tyler Cassidy (yep he of Logan Elm apprenticeship under Coach Stiverson/Coach Holbert) solid defensively as you would expect ... lots of varsity experience returning from last year led by seniors Cal Cooper,Evan Wadlington, Aaron Manson and Michael Camp who may be the best all around player I saw this weekend ... the Tigers placed 4 in double figures, 9 treys in their win over a good Adena ball club 71-42 ...
... looking forward to hitting the road to see many many more games, teams around Southern/Southeastern Ohio in the run up to the Post Season ... as always it's good to meet up with the coaches around the area - Coach Hoops (Unioto), Coach Duckworth (Marietta), Coach Stiverson/Coach Holbert (Logan Elm) ... officials and fans/seops posters - Ty Webb... the radio guys/gals - Scott Vermillion/Misty Swaim for SAMFM out of Logan among them ... all of THIS is why I enjoy this time of year - Hoops season Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line !!!

What, no mention of your old pal 93? Geeesh. )
Re: Pfloyd's 2015-16 Preseason Elite 8 in Southern/SouthEast Ohio
LOL ! I'm pretty sure I didn't see 93dog this weekend LOL ... thanks for the Alexander score by the way ... it will take weeks for the Spartans to get into basketball mode ... I was reading somewhere that it takes in the neighborhood of 5-7 weeks to get the body into hoops shape from a cardio standpoint ... which seemed high to me but what do I know LOL ... I still see the Alexander boys being in the top 15 when all is said and done BUT they better get into shape sooner than later as Coach Combs & his Vinton County boys are running on all cylinders with Mr. Bartoe leading the way - he's a special player for the Vikings ...
Re: Pfloyd's 2015-16 Preseason Elite 8 in Southern/SouthEast Ohio
... the first "official" Unofficial Pfloyd Elite 8 in Southern/Southeast Ohio -Week #1 will be out AFTER play this coming week 11/30 - 12/5/15 ... this will give the majority of teams a chance to get "one in the books" before rankings begin ...
Re: Pfloyd's 2015-16 Preseason Elite 8 in Southern/SouthEast Ohio
Just to keep you updated pfloyd....Jackson remains undefeated
Re: Pfloyd's 2015-16 Preseason Elite 8 in Southern/SouthEast Ohio
Ironman92 ... Tuesday Coach Morrow's boys will go 1 up or 1 down taking on River Valley ... Max Morrow was a great hire for the head coaching position imo ... with MM having played under Coach Ford he has the background for being hard-nosed , defensive minded ... I hope to see good things from JHS before long ...

I won't put out the first rankings until this coming Sunday after all or the majority of teams have played at least one game ... don't start throwing knives or shooting at me yet LOL ... at least give me a chance to "screw it up" first LOL ...

For Paint Valley, Dylan Swingle posted a 26-15 line in their loss to East Clinton. Things could be rocky for the Bearcats until after Christmas when Anthony McFadden will return from wrist surgery.

Re: Pfloyd's 2015-16 Preseason Elite 8 in Southern/SouthEast Ohio
The Logan Purple picked up their first "W" on the season - going into Sutton Gymnasium in Marietta beating the Tigers going away 70-56 ... Logan was led by senior PG Lane Little's 21 points, followed by Caleb Bell 13 points (3 BIG treys to give Logan separation) , Isaiah Smith added 10 pts, and Cory Henthorne 8 off the bench ... Logan trailed MHS 25-27 at intermission ... the Chiefs jumped on the Orange & Black of Coach Duckworth for a 45 to 29 point differential in the final 2 quarters ... Logan had only 10 TOs on the game - taking care of the ball in a tough environment/getting "shots on goal" and finally spreading the D with some of those 3 pointers falling - priceless ...
... nice job Chiefs !!! ... the home opener next Tuesday night vs Licking Heights should be a packed house to see the new look Chieftains ...
