So early to tell who the favorite is but ND has to prove it is ready to defend its SOC title and claim an outright victory. They need to set the tone with this game just like last year against South Webster. Should be a great game. I'll take ND in a close one. 56 - 50.

Based on the past couple of years, I really don't think either team will see 50 on the scoreboard. Coach Barrick likes the slower deliberate style of play and will likely keep the game in the low 40's. I have heard rumors that Burg will be playing more up-tempo this year, but I will believe it when I see it. Does ND have much size? That is Burg's biggest weakness, but we will play tough defense and hit the boards.

Burg has an advantage in experience, but shooting will be the key to this years team. I think Spradlin and Widdig can both possibly take some of the pressure off of Miller and Massie to be the perimiter shooters. If either of these 2 can contribute, Burg will have a very solid year. Also, Moore is very capable of stepping out and hitting the 15 foot jumper as well.

Experience advantage? ND has 3 returning starters and 2 of the new starters played a ton of minutes last year. No advantage there.

ND is physical and will use it's size inside to get points in the paint and open up the outside. The Ogg kid has to be at least 6'3"/ 240lbs. Kayser and Lewis get hot from outside this game may seen a double digit lead.

If Burg can limit turnovers and get to the foul line they can make it close.

Burg returns all 5 starters from last year's team, that's why I put they have an experience advantage. Maybe not a huge advantage, but an advantage none the less. Moore is 6'2" and around 220, so that will be a tough matchup inside for both.

For those of you considering Wheelersburg a "underdog" in this matchup, you are truly kidding yourselves. Only way Burg doesn't win this game, is if Barrick does not want to show his full hand in the pre-season.

Final score - 59-46. To say Wheelersburg wouldn't try to win this game is just an excuse in case of a loss. Burg got all they could handle tonight and as I said, you leave ND open outside and they will make you pay. Burg issued a full court press that worked for a bit but was easily broken after ND slowed down and made better passes. One point in the 4th qtr ND was up 20 with both teams starters. Say what you will but ND came to play 4 quarters. Burg is tough and they will be a great team. Congrats to them and ND both.

Wow. Even if its preseason, that is a statement. ND should have a good year in the SOC I.

ND is a nice team. Burg shot about 10% on 3's and had about 20 turnovers. Like I said before the game, shooting is the key for Burg this year. If they aren't successful from the perimiter, they will not win many games.

The second I walked into the gym I got the feeling that some of the Wheelersburg fans were not prepared for it to be a close game.....they were right. Good luck to both teams this year.

People who thought Notre Dame didnt have a chance to win this game are clueless about basketball. I would say that most people who are aware of things would tell you that Notre Dame is the better team. Notre Dame has better athletes than the burg and they work harder in the weight room. The kids from the burg will compete and win some games, but they are not better than teams like they used to be. I would say that the burg will struggle to win half of their games while N.D. will probly share the league with Eastern and then it will be interesting to see what happens in D IV tourney. DIII tourney is loaded with talent, mainly Minford and Ironton. The Burg has a lot of work to do if they want to compete with other schools...and I dont just mean basketball. N.D. was the better, more physical, and tougher (both mentally and physically)
team........just deal with it.

Wow....tough words! Personally, I didn't think before this game that Burg was a favorite and I knew it would be tough to get a win. ND is a solid team and outplayed Burg last night. To make a statement like that after Burg just finished an 8-2 football season and made the playoffs and also won a state championship in baseball is a little far fetched. Obviously, you don't like Wheelersburg, but to make a statement like that based on a foundation game makes no sense at all. Last year the basketball team was 8-12 (I believe) and we have the same players this year and none of them grew 4" in the offseason, so the expectations are not that this group will make a deep tournament run, although I beieve Coach Barrick will get the most out of the kids and they will have an improved season over last year.

I find it amusing when burg loses and someone comes on here and bashes the burg kids and say they can't compete anymore. I'm curious though. how many championship trophies did you notice when you walked into the place? did you happen to notice the latest 2012 baseball state trophy? Burg will always give credit to those who have beaten them. and nd deserves credit. they are a better team, but don't come on here and bash an athletic program that has had the success burg has.

Good win by the titans. They outplayed the pirates. Pirates will get better as the season progresses. They will need to shoot well and massive will shoot the ball better as the season progresses. They will looses their share of games. Lets just hope for some entertaining basketball.
