... have a football/basketball related question for Valley fans ... obviously the football post season runs have been awesome for the Indians the last 2 years BUT the football runs have ended with football/basketball players getting the late start for hoops - the last 2 years Valley has had to play the likes of Ironton, Minford,Piketon in the first week of Basketball season ... my question is knowing that this next season expectations are high for another post season run, will there be a change in that opening week game schedule - softening the early schedule "a tad" to get the basketball legs under the players ?

OK ...sorry FIDO and Chickencoop no game scheduled yet for open date, coach and AD have been working for months to fill and are still working on it .

Pfloyd ...as far as basketball I know we have played Ironton for 2 yrs now and Piketon 1yr and I think contracts are signed for 4 so we must have them on our schedule at for a little while longer
As far as jockeying the games on the schedule to allow for an easier transition to basketball i dont see that happening on purpose but could happen simply because of the nature of scheduling itself (sorry i took your question out of context my first response )

and for football we have signed with piketon to start 2014

crab'sbrother would maybe have a little more info if you would want to pm him

I tried to look around on KY and WV websites and some of their schools with open dates are 2-3 hour drives also.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No WV team is open on 9/6 that would need a game.
Some might have 9/6 open, but already have 10 games.
In WV you have 11 weeks to play 10 games.

yes that is what they are running into , schedules are already full, distance, and some have wanted to play on a saturday afternoon after a 2 or 3 hr drive to get there and some teams have said no we're not coming to your place 2 to 3 hrs away.

Seems to me that if you are not going to renew a contract with a team and drop them.........you better have your "PLAN B" in place with another team! Just seems like that somebody wasn't prepared in this matter!!! This needs to be a " HIGH PRIORITY MATTER".......... jus say'n! ;-)

So if this does not get filled would it keep us out of the playoffs even if we go undefeated? I assume maybe if we stay d 5 but not in d 6.

What is the point difference between beating a RH team winning 1 or 2 games vs a 9 game schedule...I believe if you take care of business on the field the off field stuff will work its way out...

How they calculate points. Making the playoffs can still be done. But could be the difference in if you host a game or traveling in week 11

from what i have heard we actually would have had them same if not more pts last yr if we had not played rock hill ...this is coming from a big time number cruncher that stays on it all season, so i dont think it matters , just win the games you have

Coal Grove has experienced success missing a game recently (if memory serves correctly).

One other bit of news is that the Portsmouth game is no longer Saturday, moved back to Friday to avoid conflicts with River Days festivities and pageant.

From a points perspective, not playing a 1-9 Rock Hill team last season would have raised the Indians average over 1.24 points on their final average. So, points wise, it is better to play 9 games rather than 10 with the 10th opponent being sub par.

Having said that, from a player's view, you want to play 10 games.

agreed , most kids only have this one shot, as a player you want all of the games you can get, as for the playoffs, win the games you play and it should take care of itself

Man that's really messed up that you can benefit from not playing a game I think they need to change how they do the points

didn't Valley get knocked out of a playoff spots not to far back because a team forfeited in week 10 giving the other team more points?

River days ....geesh....4 rides and a pageant that lasts for hrs for no reason..... its football season ....there would be more kids at the game regardless of river days ...lol ...just my humble opinion
