Chillicothe Cavaliers
Re: Chillicothe Cavaliers
Would not matter who the coach is. This just is not a very talented team. Kids play hard but we lack size and other than Johnson we lack a scorer.

I feel The cavs nation has been spoiled and having a mediocre season is hard. As far as the future it will get real interesting. Hillsboro and wilmingtons 7 th grades are loaded too. It all depends on development we will see its a long way off.
Re: Chillicothe Cavaliers
I don't quite get the "not a talented team" argument. I cannot imagine a single coach in SE Ohio (or almost any place in Ohio) who wouldn't love to have Zach Johnson. He is a special player...at times. Some of the grumblings have been that the many offenses are confusing to the players. Coach Meister was brought in because of three things: 1. Good basketball pedigree a Newark 2. Reputation for tremendous discipline and 3. His interview was out-of-this world. He'll be fine but Chillicothe will be a middle of the pack (record-wise) program for the next 2-4 years.

Capital B in Baloney! I've played the game and watched the game in well over 30 years. I've seen good coaches take less talented teams and figure out a way to get the "W" look at Barrick at the Burg, Pierson at Oak Hill, Lisath at Piketon, Combs at Vinton County. They very seldom have great talent, but figures out how to win. We have some nice athletes that can get it done now. A simple great interview doesn't make a good coach. I'm going to support him while he is here, and I may be spoiled; however I refuse to settle for where we are now. Get it done now!SVCrocks wrote:I don't quite get the "not a talented team" argument. Re: Chillicothe Cavaliers
The schedule has nothing to do with it. Chilli played Akron Buchtel, Dublin Coffman, and Dayton Chaminade last year and replaced them with what should be weaker opponents.
Chilli has one of the best players in the SE District and another starter back. The JV team last year I believe only lost a couple of games.Chilli has the players to be successful but they are getting used to a new coach. Get off their backs and support them. Chilli won 5 districts in the last 6 years (never happenned before in SE district) so support them when they need you. NOW!

Re: Chillicothe Cavaliers
Wow!!! Chilli just beat a poor Gallia team 38-37 at home on a shot by Zach Johnson with 3 seconds left. Still hoping Cavs can put it together but it didn't look good. A win is a win this year so we'll take them anyway they come. I shouldn't say Gallia is poor they are 3-8 so they have won as many as the Cavs. Maybe it should have been a one point game.

They have scorers he's not allowed to shoot the ball the Knisley kid can stroke it. If we still had coach K we'd also have size the Londons would not have left. The starters under coach K would have been Johnson, Bixler, Knisley, Johnson, and London with the other London and Taylor being six and seven off the bench mixed in with Beard. Of those that shouldv'e been our starters two hardly play one he cut and the other moved. We'd at most lost maybe two games running away with the league in line for another district title and be playing CHS basketball getting up and down the court.sibibis45 wrote:Would not matter who the coach is. Lisath would be tempted but not likely the only reason he's leaving Piketon is because he got a job in dayton

Re: Chillicothe Cavaliers
Yes, but he still resides in Chillicothe to my understanding. Just thinking ahead...Who knows he could get transferred to one of the prisons in Chillicothe before the season ends. Don't take me serious, I don't know too much about the man, just what I hear from people in the prison arena. I just think he would be a great fit. I do like Meister, just not sure he was the right choice. Time will tell.B-dawg79 wrote:Lisath would be tempted but not likely the only reason he's leaving Piketon is because he got a job in dayton
Re: Chillicothe Cavaliers
Lisath is a good coach but why would he want to go to Chilli? I think he is smarter than that. He would have to bring his whole staff. I don't know but I was told when Kellough left the whole staff left with him. Something like 9 or 10 coaches. Is that true? There has to be more to him leaving and the staff following him, doesn't there? I feel sorry for Meister, he seems like a good guy but I am afraid he ain't going to get it done. I am also afraid "open enrollment" may be what some of the Cavs younger talent may be thinking. I don't want to stay to suffer through this. If they do this could be the Cavs pre-Kellough, always in the middle of the pack. Mediocre. I Hope not!!! Go Cavs.
Re: Chillicothe Cavaliers
I thought the London's moved to New Albany and had nothing to do with Coach k leaving? I also don't see kids transfering out, why would they. The SVC is medicore at best so why leave a bigger school with move academic offerings. These kids for the most part are not basketball only players.
Re: Chillicothe Cavaliers
I was told that if Coach K stayed the Londons were staying but if he left they were leaving. Don't know if that is true. As far as open enrollment is concerned, I think parents know that winning records are important when it comes to college recruiting. Not too many kids recruited from 7-15 record teams. They would have a better chance even in the SVC on a winning team. The Cavs had some great athletes before Coach K but they didn't win. How many of those great athletes would have been looked at on a 18 win Coach K team?
College coaches recruit winners, I'm sorry but that is the way it is. If the Cavs don't win, kids don't go to college for free. I still think open enrollment for the good athlete is an option. That is all I'm saying.

Re: Chillicothe Cavaliers
Been B&B.........You stated that Chillicothe winning 5 districts in 6 years has never happened before in the SE district........Portsmouth won district titles in 1950, 1951, 1952, 1954, 1955, and 1956........in the BIG school class when there were only 2 classes in Ohio.
Re: Chillicothe Cavaliers
Trojan Dave... I stand corrected.. sorry. I would NEVER disrespect the Portsmouth tradition. I guess I wasn't around in the 50's so I didn't remember those great teams. However I would have to admit that those 6 in 7 years trumps Chilli's 5 in the last six because there were only 2 divisions and they probably had to play 3 games just to get to the district. I just love high school basketball and respect people who are doing it right. Trojans have been doing it right for a long time. Thanks for the info.

Re: Chillicothe Cavaliers
Transferring these days whether people like it or not happens and I know kids and parents that have discussed it because they do not want to play for a team that is 3-8 and a coach who cuts kids or drives kids away. I think disgruntledcavsfan said it best if Kellough was here out starting line up would be way different and even if he did leave and thats why the London's left there should only be those 2 gone...the cavaliers are getting killed on the inside..where is the Johnson kid at from last year who is I believe around 6'1 220 who not only is a big body but a very good basketball player...why are there 3 freshman closing out games who are not ready to play on the varsity level, why isn't Knisley getting more playing time? The worst part about this situation is it all falls on the coach if it was something the players were doing fine but its not the right kids are not out on the floor I fully blame the coach who in my opinion was the absolute wrong hire for this program.

Re: Chillicothe Cavaliers
B&B Bean: You didn't disrespect Portsmouth's tradition at all.......as far as what is going on with your Cavaliers, keep the faith because all programs have down years.........Portsmouth had 7 straight losing seasons from 2003-2009, but rebounded to go to back to back state appearances in 2011 and 2012. Chillicothe will come back soon.
