fuzzhead wrote:Weak schedule? The majority of the weakness comes from the OVC - games that they have to schedule. Yes, compared to Ironton or an SOC2 conference slate, the schedule is weak. Coal Grove will never schedule like Ironton does. Let's quit gnawing on that bone (and Ironton will not have the same level of success against incredibly tough schedules that they have in the past). Wheelersburg and Valley are very good games. This is a schedule that is realistic for where the Hornets are both geographically and skill-wise. Are there games that I'd like to see on the non-conference schedule? Of course. But this is a good schedule - one with which CG could go anywhere from 10-0 to maybe 6-4. Also, does a weak schedule lead to not being prepared in the playoffs? To an extent, probably. But look back on who CG has lost to recently and I think you will concede that CG has gone against better teams - all have been to Regional Finals if I'm not mistaken. Last year, it was almost a miracle the Hornets even made the playoffs and they went against a Valley team they'd already met in the regular season. The new regions are very interesting and if CG can put together a 2-loss season or better, they should get better seeding than they have the last few years.

Well said fuzz

After seeing a few teams the grove looks like they stack up pretty well. big line that can play. good qb with a strong arm can make all throws. got some good backs and just got anoher one wednesday. the fullback is gonna be hard to get down and the other two hard to catch. good luck ovc you might really need it

Coal Grove has a scrimmage this Wednesday night at 7 vs Vinton County. The Grove worked VC over pretty good in McArthur last year during their scrimmage and it sounds like the Hornets will be very good again this year. I'm anxious to see what the Vikings can do and how much they have improved over the off-season with some new guys coming out this year to play and the starting freshman and sophomores from a year ago getting a little bigger and hopefully better.

I can easily see them going 8-2. They catch Wheelersburg the week after the Ironton game but on the road. Pirates focused on Ironton and will have a week to get ready for CG. Hornets have easier opener with Meigs. Valley is strong and will be a tough game. Those are the two losses I predict for CG. Waverly has a new coach and is rebuilding. I'd take CG over Raceland and the rest of the OVC.

I see the two toughest games for CG as Burg and Fairland. I think they will beat Valley this year in a good one. :122246
