If Burg drops them, I would guess they will pick up someone local, depending on who has an open week. I am guessing Oak Hill, South Point, Chesapeake, or maybe a KY school such as Russell or Ashland.

Russell or Ashland would be an excellent choice IMO. Not much travel time and quality teams.

If looking good is part of winning an S.O.C. or any other championship, then they are well on their way to some hardware for the trophy case.

Wheelersburg football players will be the strongest they have be since 2010. Adding strength to talent, speed and great attitudes should produce wins.

Let's talk about the positions on the team this year. When you look at it like this you really see the talent that the burg will have this year!

O-Line- Sifford,Warner, Chambliss, Staggs, Jones, Parsley, Bussa, Salyers, Greeno, Hall, Newsome, Whitley's, Goodling, Bhil, Mingus,

skill kids:Miller-qb, recievers/slot/running backs: D. Miller, Claxson, Acree, Browning, Green, Hutch, MCallister, May, Jenkins, Howard, Davis, Ellis, Cunningham, Martin, Darnell, Thurmer, Dodridge.

D-line: Warner, Staggs, Parsley, Martin, Acree, Stone, Salyers, Jones, Browning (quick line up) Beef line up: Chambliss, Greeno, Goodling, Hall, Newsome, Whitley's, Bhil.

Linebackers: Martin, Ellis, Cunningham, Conn, Parsley, Stone, Davis,Warner, Salyers

D.B.'s-Claxson, May, D. Miller, E. Miller, Howard, Dodridge, Jenkins, Darnell, Mcallister,Green, Thurmer.

Wow That is a lot of talent! Should be a good year. Looks like the coaches will have a lot more options this year. Seem to have the kids to adjust to about every situation. It will help if you can get some of those younger kids step up!

Heard Wade Martin is not playing because of baseball. What a shame. One sport players are killing our programs. Estep is selling one heck of a dream!

If true, that is unfortunate. 1 sport athletes do destroy other programs. Administration needs to step up.

What would you like the administration to do, go beat the him and the parents into submission, He evidently feels his best oppurtunity is in baseball, i dont see that as an administration issue. Coach Estep has a great program going and with the past success of your baseball players who have gone on to play in college why not choose baseball. i think when you are 6'1 200 lbs or so and you have some talent then baseball is your best chance to further your education and ball playing from this area and really who knows he could change his mind later and play football again during HS .... He is a pretty good athlete so he isnt gonna lose much except the hitting and getting hit part

No argument here. Burg baseball is the best in the state. I have heard their feeder system is outstanding. Back-to-back state championships speaks for itself. No problem if the player makes that decision on his own. If any player, in any sport is influenced to focus on one sport than that is an issue. Zach Farmer is one of the best pitcher to come out of So. Ohio in a long time. He proved you don't have to limit yourself to one sport to have a future in baseball.

It seems like this is starting to be the norm with AAU and Summer ball. I know a few players at Ironton that specialized in one sport after playing more than one through their Freshmen year. Zac Carter and Trey Fletcher both played Football through their Freshmen years and were really good Football players, they would have added a lot to the Football team but chose to concentrate on Basketball only. My Nephew played Baseball, Basketball and ran Cross Country until his Senior year when he concentrated on Baseball after being offered a Scholarship to play Baseball after his Junior year. That's just some examples from last years Senior Class.

That is why baseball is up and football and basketball are down. Estep has been allowed to influence his players to only play baseball. Don't see any DI players coming out of the program! Play all sports! Enjoy high school! Most playing college ball are paying at least 20,000. to play!

Is he running cross country or playing Golf?

One sport athletes tend to get hurt easier because IMO they aren't concentrating on working out throughout the whole year so therefore when it comes to play there one sport, they are not in the best of shape. If they play football, basketball and then baseball they are constantly working out throughout the year.

Check some of the big time players in sports today. I would guess that they didn't just focus on one sport in HS. Each sport they played made them stronger for the next and made them stronger for the next level.

I went to school with Brad Walke, one of the best basketball players to ever play at the Burg. He ran cross country in the fall and by the time basketball season came around, he was always in great shape because of all the running. If Wade doesn't play anything until baseball season, that is taking a lot of time off before baseball even starts.

You never know, football could be his calling and he might be throwing it away. I think he would have made a great TE. Can only wish him the best of luck.

I blame the parents! They are the ones listening to the influences encouraging the one sport crap. Wade is a junior I could somewhat understand if he had already committed with a full ride to college. Fact is they don't even hardly ever give full rides in baseball. I even heard he told the coaches that football was his favorite sport. Really! I am afraid he is going to regret this decision! You only go through high school one time and you should get all the memories you can. I guess setting in the cheering section will be great memories! What a disappointment Tom!

I would like to see you say that to Tom's face. The gutstomping he would put all over you would be enormous.

The decision is ultimately up to the young man and the people close to him. Coach Estep does not encourage kids to specialize. He played all 3 sports in highschool and still got a full ride to osu,I would think that would be a good example that you can do more than 1 sport and still go onto to play at the next level. The coach that encouraged kids to specialize no longer coaches at burg. Good luck to the young man, no matter what his decision.
