Always amazing to me that the kooks on the far right profess to loving the Constitution but don't understand what it really says until its pointed out to them and then they want to argue something the Constitution doesn't say and the Courts agree. Ideology is one thing but sheer stupidity is another.

The Supreme Court struck down the District of Columbia's ban on handgun possession and decided for the first time in the nation's history that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual's right to own a gun for self-defense.

Yeah, I think we can all agree that the 2nd Amendment is clear as mud. Let's face it, the 2nd Amendment, just as any other Amendment, federal statute, regulation, etc. ultimately means whatever the U.S. Supreme Court says it means. Us common folk don't get a chance to participate in that branch of government. That branch ain't a democracy, and for the most part, it operates without pressure from the media or general public. We can debate what the 2nd Amendment means till the cows come home. But at the end of the day, you can't lobby SCOTUS. The only opinions that matters are the 9 justices.

With the flurry of executive orders, there's a good chance that some constitutional issues will be raised, maybe separation of powers issues, maybe 2nd Amendment issues. So SCOTUS might get a chance sooner rather than later to tell us morons and schmucks exactly what the 2nd Amendment really means, at least until the next power shift on the court.

WOW, Bighits, another swing and a miss. Did you read ALL the article. Only one part of the D.C. law was found unconstitutional and the experts were puzzled over the Supremes 5-4 decision which went down ideological lines. All they said was a handgun MAY be bought for SELF DEFENSE. All other aspects of the law went untouched ( shotguns & rifles MUST be diassembled, unloaded or bound by gun lock to be legal. None of that changed, only the NARROW part that allows handguns for self protection. Read ALL the article.............     . You are still clueless. D.C. could come back and limit handguns to .22s . Yep, you can own a handgun for self defense, 8)

Hey abuck, don't schools teach these clowns anything about constitutional law ?

And have you read ANYTHING from our founding fathers???????????????

"No Free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms."

-Thomas Jefferson

A ban on handguns in Washington DC has been ruled unconstitutional by the United States Supreme Court.

In a 5-4 decision, the justices upheld a lower court ruling striking down the ban. They said individuals had a right to keep handguns for lawful purposes.

Since we have so many dummies on here, the link provides the most legal descriptions I can find. Interesting , after all the arguements, is the paragraph entitled CONCLUSION. REad ALL and learn something from the conservative law school.

http://www.saf.org/LawReviews/DorfChicago.htm

This is a legal review and NOT an ideological rant. Go to Faux Noise for that crap. I prefer a scholarly review and input from legal scholars than Rush, Hannity and the other blowhards who know nothing.

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms… disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes… Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”

Why? 8 rounds or 30 rounds. You think limiting the amount of bullets in a gun will change anything. It takes like 3 secs to change a clip. So now if you want to go on a rampage you need to carry more clips. No problem. Heres a scenario: 2 guys want to shoot up a school in gun free zones. 1 guy has an Ar with a 75 round drum magazine. 1 guy has a shotgun and 2 pistols holding 10 rounds a piece plus 4 clips for each gun. So both men have equal firepower just one man has to carry a few more clips. Kids will die.
Attack the people who uses guns for bad or people who shouldnt own a gun like the mentally challenged. Dont attack the common man who loves to shoot guns.

TC, what "common man" needs a semi-automatic rifle with a clip holding thirty rounds?

Anybody that loves to shoot guns. Have you ever shot a gun? Trust me you get a gun with a 30 rd clip and just blast a target away its freaking fun as heck. Anything funner would be if you could blow it up with explosives. Heck Ive shot one with a 75 round drum. Its freaken awesome!!!

I don't want to deny you your innocent rush until the same weapon lands in the hands of the wrong nut. Then, re-loading every ten shots would've made some difference in Sandy Hook. And you're not going to get all the crazies off the street. AND, I'm not naive enough to think you'll ever get a hand on so many weapons already out there. But if one life can be spared, that's worth the regulation going forward to me. It just is.

Hello reloading every ten shot he had plenty of time in that school to kill more if he wanted to. Who would have stopped him? No one that who unless the cops who got there 20 minutes later rushed the school and shot him dead. You can reload a lot of time sand put out a lot of bullets in that amount of time.

Big Hit your quotes are wonderful, but irrelevant to this issue....The only weapons that they had were muskets, and they were talking about taking away ALL guns..............No one, absolutely no one is trying to take all guns away...........The SCOTUS decision you mention, that pallidin appropriately called you out on , does nothing more than make a handgun available in DC.........It leaves the door wide open for banning other weapons that even Scalia, mr. conservative himself, called unusual weapons ........SCOTUS ebbs and flows...........The Constitution is a living document.................The issue over military weapons in the hands of civilians is an issue that most people want changed.........It is called democracy........Banning all miltary weapons and multi round clips is not only logical but sensible............It will happen...Maybe not completely tommorrow, but another terrible incident will happen and people will demand change...........And change could come as simply as a change in the makeup of the SCOTUS.............I pray these changes happen quickly so no other parent has to feel like the parents of Newtown................ :12224

Anyone other than me catch ther irony of the gun control debate today ...... I'm talking the ol Prez draggin out children to his news conherence where he rather kingly ordered the rest of us to follow his personal leanings AND the NRA releasing a comercial asking WHY would the prez have armed guards at HIS kids school but not want them for OUR kids ???? Both used children as props ..... But the bigger picture is the huge whining from the left about the NRA's ad but had no problem at with ol barry draggin out a few 1st graders ..... He a shameful human
