Warren Warrior Fans
I was wondering where all of the Warren Warrior fans might be. Warren is having a great year, yet there are only a handful of posters saying anything about them. And then, there aren't that many posts about them. I see more posts from other school' fans about Warren than from our own alumni. Just saying..... I'm not trying to incite a riot, just wondering where everybody is.
Re: Warren Warrior Fans
We are here, just trying not to be too optimistic. I have watched all but two games and I am still cautiously optimistic. I am afraid the competition we are playing isn't as good as years past. So us winning by 20, 40, 60 points isn't giving me a great feeling as we come up against the North and West district teams (Logan Elm, Waverly, etc.). Fort Frye, Chilly, Jackson, Portsmouth, Gallia, Belpre, Logan none of these are having great years. These wins are not as good as they use to be. We will see what we really have in a few weeks with Newark Catholic (#2 on JJ Huddle) in D4 teams.
Hope I did not rain on your parade with this downer of a blog, but a win over Newark Catholic will bring out a lot of enthusiastic supporters

I completely agree with Warrior90. We are weak at guard and I'm afraid that when we go up against better teams thats is going to be our downfall. I didn't get to attend the UA game to be able to comment on our only loss. I'm sure that loss was a learning experience. I've never heard Maddox yell, but I did hear he was pretty verbal at that game. GO WARRIORS!
Re: Warren Warrior Fans
Maybe enthusiasm isn't as high? Maybe there isn't a buzz around this team? Maybe there aren't parents drumming up support for their child on internet forums?
If that is the case its the best thing that could ever happen to the program. Team emphasis, unity, and singular focus all for a goal that has alluded the program since the school was founded in 1961 (A regional appearance)

Re: Warren Warrior Fans
I have watched Warren basketball for almost 20 years. Only one player saw significant varsity time on the court last year, so they have had to learn to work together and play at a new level. They are loaded with talented players that extend throughout their bench. While I don't believe in promoting specific players on this site or any other, as basketball takes an entire team working together to be successful, I would like to give one short spot of support to the guards who seem to be taking verbal hits on this site for being "weak". These young men are strong players and assets to the team as a whole. They provide much needed leadership and have the trust of the younger players. Perhaps the negative comments are driven by those who expect them to be "drivers". Yabs and Pannell have their strengths, such as the lowest turnover rates on the current team and on teams past. Yabs handles the ball well under pressure. Pannell, is a solid ball handler who sees the floor extremely well. He is capable of double digit scoring and has a high shot success percentage but seems to have taken on the role of facilitating the "Bigs" this year. Both boys play aggessive defense and have multiple steals on their stats. Pannell is also an aggressive rebounder for his size. Yabs has taken multiple charges this season for the team. Every boy on the team has strengths to contribute, including the guards. I think Warrior fans are committed to support this group of boys without all of the drama that can exist on the web. This teams success will be up to the coaches and boys. Our best effort as fans should be to show up at their games, cheer loudly, expect them to succeed, view them as a team and surround them with positive support.

I know I have seen the same that the guard play is weak, not sure I agree with that as the only time they have struggled was against above average guard pressure from UA. I think they have been improving since the UA game and have used that game to step up their game. Against Athens they handled themselves well. Very talented team and as long as Coach can keep them playing unselfish ball they have a shot to make it farther than any other Warren team. GO BIG BLUE!!benchwarmer50 wrote:I have watched Warren basketball for almost 20 years. Re: Warren Warrior Fans
I believe 100% with the above couple of posts...you could predict from the talent coming back this team had the chance to be very good, to carry on the winning tradition the basketball warriors/fans have enjoyed...but HOW good was the question, could a 'younger' group, meaning less varsity experience, come together and gel early in the year, develop that warrior toughness on defense and offense, then be ready come tournament time....I think the answer is showing on the court...don't forget last years varsity had only one returning 'starter', although they overall had more collective varsity experience than this years varsity group....but remember most of this years starters were a formidable JV team and played at a high level together last year....Yabs and Pannell have grown leaps and bounds (yes the low turnover % is a refreshing improvement) as they have gained varsity experience and I want to add Lang to the mix....he has been impressive with tough "d"....Yabs is just plain solid and actually passes good shot opportunities when he should let it go....Pannell is a dead-on set shot guy who has been unselfish and patient to get the ball in the hands of the player who has the best shot....Lang is strong and long and he can get to the rim as well as shoot from outside, he just needs to understand the flow of the game and take his shots when they are there....Drayer is capable and will have his moment to help this team in an important situation, be patient and hang in there....and we have several capable soph guards who will anchor this team next year....notice I haven't mentioned the varsity bigs, we know who they are, they get enough press (but got to mention Leff who has made his presence felt lol with his much needed physical play)....lets not forget the non-starter junior bigs, they are needed and will be important down the stretch as well....I have really enjoyed seeing this team come together and get better, but it is NOT a surprise with the coaching we have....this is a typical solid warrior team, with those who are scorers and those who have found their role to best contribute....this team has a legit shot to win 20-21 regular season games, never been done....and I say this is Maddox's year to get to the Regional!! Hey let's put one on the Tigers Tuesday night!!

Im not sure what you want in a guard? I agree with Warrior Frosh. (that doesnt usually happen) I think you have to realize what these guys actually do. They are doing what they are being asked to do. Each player has a role on this team. It takes a real team player to fulfill those roles. Its not our job to judge. Its our job to encourage. Please, take the time to recognize what all of those guys do.
They work hard to get the win.

Now I see some action/reaction. That's more like it. I feel we have the chance to win district this year, of course I felt that way for the past few years, but I think the SE district is down and ready for us to take it. Sure there are some good teams out there, but we just need to focus and we can do it. GO WARRIORS!!!!!
