Gallia Academy @ River Valley 1/20/2012
Re: Gallia Academy @ River Valley 1/20/2012
I always love how a team that has only won two games all year makes excuses that they would have more wins in a different conference. The OVC isn't exactly a power house conference. RV is D3 they should be able to beat small D4 teams. Every year RV wins two or three games and it is the same story they could beat TVC teams but every year come tournament time a TVC team sends them home.

River Valley will be playing in the Ohio division of the TVC.

It's aso always about talent in the lower grades that never pans out. I will say that the Jr. High has consistently performed in conference better year to year than the high school ever does. I think many kids quit or they get older stop putting in the work and don't improve. This is in all sports. Also, they would be in the bottom half of the Hocking if they played like they are now.Fred G. IMO they don't have the kids out this year. Blizzard man said it right about kids quitting or getting content with losing and stop working in offseason.Fred G. Does gallia academy have kids that should be playing but didn't come out?

The $1 million questions are WHY do the junior high teams not pan out in HS and WHY do the kids quit or leave?

Fairland beat Warren last year in the tournament,Warren is usually pretty good,Fairland went to the District Semi's in Div 2.
Chesapeake is usually one of the top 2 seeds in the Div 3 district, last year they bounced Nelsonville by how many?
South Point is steadily better than most of the TVC teams their size. Took District winner Portsmouth a last second shot to defeat them in the tournament year before last.Chesapeake went to the Final 4 that year.
Who was the last TVC Ohio team to win 2 tournament games in the same year? Meigs?
OVC vs TVC is no comparison.

Vinton co, Alex, wellston, Athens...
I think Alex was most recent. TVC is more balanced from top to bottom than the OVC (Most years) while the ovc is more top heavy. Just my opinion

Re: Gallia Academy @ River Valley 1/20/2012
LOL, River Valley really doesn't have the talent you think in the lower level, they are great kids but now they can't compete at all with Meigs...Wait till Grades 9th, 8th, 7th and 6th are all in High School together. Meigs will Kaleib Sheets, Cody Bartrum, T.J Williams, Luke Musser, Chase Whitlach, Christian Mattox, Devon Hawley, Zach Helton, Lane Cullums, Bailey Carruthers, Zach Bartrum, Nick Lilly...and several more....TONS of Talent in these boys and it is already showing. They are already beating River Valley, Wellston, Alexander, Athens, Vinton County, Nelsonville York and will only get betterBevo wrote:right now they are 2-1 vs hocking teams they beat eastern pretty easily, defeated belpre on a neutral floor. lost to southern at southern in the last few seconds. i really think they could beat every team in the hocking except for fed hock, if they continue to turn the ball over they won't beat teams of their own caliber. the hocking is super weak this year!
rv prob has more talent in the lower grades than anyone in the tvc except maybe athens so we will see what happens? if not for injury i was told they would be playing 4 sophs and 1 freshmen this year most of the time they have more freshmen on jv and varsity who are injured, the 8th grade class is pretty athletic really competitive in every sport with big numbers, the 7th grade prob has the best 7th grader in the ovc this year. the 5th and 6th are totally loaded with size and speed.
we will see
Curious to who you think the best 7th Grader at RV is, because he must not have played the night we rolled all over them and we done it without Christian Mattox playing that night and he averages a little under 20 points a game right now.

Another rinky dink obsessed dad........ Sounds like Meigs in on their way to an NBA title in the future!!! LOL But things change in high school....... River Valley was 21 deep 2 years ago in the 8th grade with 12-14 that looked like they could really become gamers..... There are what 3/4 left playing now out of that vaunted class of 2015 and a few of the better ones gone or not playing?

He's right. Meigs really is loaded. That Mattox kid is a stud. However, time will truly tell. 7th grade team is undefeated with like 7 players. They are very well coached by Jeremy Hill (Jordan's cousin).kidsarewhatmatters wrote:Coach_K wrote:LOL, River Valley really doesn't have the talent you think in the lower level, they are great kids but now they can't compete at all with Meigs...Wait till Grades 9th, 8th, 7th and 6th are all in High School together. Yes a rinky dink dad, and proud of it. No NBA titles for sure Mr. Comedian. But whipping on River Valley every year for sure...I think your a little delusional when you say River Valley was 21 deep 2 years ago. I had a Son that was in the 8th Grade for Meigs at that time as well and River Valley wasn't all that.kidsarewhatmatters wrote:Coach_K wrote:LOL, River Valley really doesn't have the talent you think in the lower level, they are great kids but now they can't compete at all with Meigs...Wait till Grades 9th, 8th, 7th and 6th are all in High School together. High School level it does change for the most part, Kids go to different schools, lose interest, can't keep their grades up. These boys from Meigs that I speak about are committed to keep on playing together, All us Parents are Alumni from Meigs and Bleed Maroon and Gold and won't be transferring our kids anywhere. We have a good Coach at the High School and Jr. High levels. So yeah I may be a rinky dink basketball Dad, but watch and see.

The Mattox kid (My Son) isn't lighting up the stats this year, he has been playing Team Ball. We aren't blowing teams out of the water but we are playing consistent. We are learning the system and not playing all out like we did the years before.
River Valley does have a very good 8th Grade team, I think they were undefeated when we played them and we gave them their first loss. Our 8th Grade is pretty solid, They did get beat by Athens and Vinton. But they were close games.
Anyways this is a High Schools forum...I was only responding because I got a chuckle out of Bevo saying that River Valley was loaded and had a 7th Grader that was the best in the OVC. And the only 7th Grader that I can think he was talking about would be Barber. At least Barber is the best one on the 7th Grade team that I know of.

Meigs does have a couple of pretty good classes not overwhelming but pretty good.
The TCV 7th grade is very weak, the best team in the TVC would prob be under .500 in the OVC.
The Meigs 7th grade team is decent, the Meigs 8th grade and RV was 8th was a dog fight about evenly matched. The Rv 7th grader Brown he is about 5-9 or 5-10 can play all 5 positions, is averaging about 20 points a game.
The best 7th grade team in Southern Ohio is at Fairland, they would beat any TVC team by 40!! The closest any team has played them was Portsmouth by about 12 points.
You also remember, there are tons of 7th and 8th grade studs who remain 5' 8" tall and never even play HS basketball, I would say that if a team keeps 4 kids from each grade they are lucky.

Is undefeated. You are do full of crap if you think think the OVC is that much better. Yu really think the top TVC team would be below .500 in the OVC? If you're referring to High school, I can assure you Athens and Vinton County would be not be below .500. Are you kidding me? If you're referring to Jr. High, you are still full of crap. Vinton County has good teams as always. Meigs is a much bettr team with Christian and te other kid who had surgery (can't remember his name). I will say that RV's 8th grade looks good, but will it translate? They run well but they can't set up their offense.
Re: Gallia Academy @ River Valley 1/20/2012
Never heard of the Brown kid, not even when we played them. Not even sure they had 20 points when we played them. I'm not sure about the teams in the OVC, All I know is these same group of 7th Graders are the ones that got Runner Up in the Ohio State Tournament last year in...And also landed Championships in Charleston, Parkersburg...Etc...You keep saying that we wouldn't be anything in the OVC...WE ARE NOT IN THE OVC, Nor will you all be here soon.It isn't our fault the TVC is weak. However I bet RV wouldn't be a .500 ball club in the TVC. You will find that out soon enough.Rvbballdude wrote:Meigs does have a couple of pretty good classes not overwhelming but pretty good.

We are now 10-0 and we still have yet played an A game yet, The coach has handcuffs on the boys right now. If those handcuffs come off...WATCHOUT!!!
The boy that had surgery is Zach Helton.

hijack alert, looks like this thread was hijacked by a meigs teacher and dad of one of the players, lol
we must remember it's middle school or jr high has very little bearing on what their varsitys will look like in a few years, remember hijacking is illegal in most countries , :D
