Hill from River Valley officially resigned yesterday so we'll see where that goes. Although not sure why Alex would want him and furthur destroying RVs program?

Coach Gabriel, thanks for everything you have done for Alexander basketball, the boys and girls programs and for the community as a whole. You will be missed and thought of in high regard.

Rv went young last time now he jumped on the carousel so young or old your eventually going to b on the carousel if u hang around long enough.so rv shouldn't b a test pattern for young coaches to find their way.

Don't gotta be a test pattern, find a young guy that would be commited to buidling a program.Judge and Jury wrote:Rv went young last time now he jumped on the carousel so young or old your eventually going to b on the carousel if u hang around long enough.so rv shouldn't b a test pattern for young coaches to find their way.

The problem is the administration, parents or many of the students are not willing to do what it takes to build a program. Honestly, Jordan was that guy and now he's gone. River Valley will never change. It's a sad culture that can't be broken. Phil Jackson could be their coach. It doesn't matter. The next RV coach will be Richard Stephens. He's already being groomed. He won't fair any bettr because RV athletics is and will continue to be in a rut. Is there a worse overall school athletic program in southeast Ohio? Or Ohio for that matter?

Hill was never that guy just way too disconnected from the kids. He placed himself on a pedestal that nobody could ever see much less reach. Stephens has a baby on the way and told the kids he would not pursue the job. You're right in that a complete culture change is needed and wwould take years if it ever can happen?

Until you get a high school coach that is deeply involved with the whole program, making sure from biddy league on up, kids are taught fundamentals,
along with having fun and playing hard. Changing coaches probably wont have much effect. Teams that are successful year after year usually have
strong fundamental youth programs.

Good point. RV youth programs are filled with wannabe parent coaches who only care about ensuring their kid plays the whole game. This is for every sport.givengo wrote:Until you get a high school coach that is deeply involved with the whole program, making sure from biddy league on up, kids are taught fundamentals,

Actually Hill himself took over the youth basketball programs 2 years ago and they got considerably worse since that time.

I'm aware of that, but you still have wannabe coaches.kidsarewhatmatters wrote:BlizzardMan wrote:Good point. Youth programs coaches are volunteers and are much appreciated. Just wish high school coach would install a practice plan for youth coaches to teach more fundamentals and less plays. Running A program and installing a system are two different things.

Very well said. The problem was that Hill ran off the volunteers that really cared and put in extra time and effort into the kids.

The position will be filled from within and the program will get better quickly.

There was nothing wrong with the program. You, just like about every other school, are going through the cycle of lesser talent. Classes and athletes ebb and flow during the years. I have seen some of your younger talent, there is a nice 5th grade bunch and I heard the 8th grade bunch is pretty good also. As fans, you need to be patient and hope that whoever is the coach they can hardness that talent and get all they can from it. Changing coaches is not the answer, you have to look no further than Vinton County football for that answer.

With Richardson, Chapman, Corey Chapman ... it was gonna get better quickly anyways ... a new coach will come in and inherit this group of young players - probably have some success - and the folks who didn't like Gabriel will say it was because they have a new coach.highandtight wrote:The position will be filled from within and the program will get better quickly.
may I suggest also that whoever ends up coaching - please try and keep some angry parent from going on facebook and bad mouthing him ... it really made Alexander look bad, especially since it was posted more than once on a topic related to 'Athens' basketball!
