Wouldn't matter. They'd just stand there on their phones. Back in the day if you didn't lose your voice by the 3rd quarter, you sucked. I lost mine last night at half time 8)

Jeep80: thanks for looking out for me...I slipping in my old age! Hopefully you'll be planning a trip to Columbus here soon.

Swanker: true. The Manchester game last year, the approximate 15-20 kids in Webster's student section just stood around playing with their phones while Manchester's student section dominated them.*

It has nothing to do with the administration or "jealousy" of other coaches. Very few students came out to support the girls' team during their tourney run. For some reason the kids at the school just won't go to the games. I really don't know why the kids that were there last night didn't sit in the cheer block. I know some parents are working on getting more there Tuesday. Hope it works!
Nothing?? From what I'm hearing I wouldn't agree.

Once the Kreischer era ended other programs have been wanting the same perks as what the state teams got, such as the charter buses, the banners hanging in the gym, etc.. But everyone forgets that those teams made soooo much $$ throughout the year to pay for all that. Well the other sports didnt like that too well and wanted same treatment but can't bc that's expensive and they don't earn enough money. So some coaches and teachers have been in the ears of students over the years and now the boys bball program isn't liked. It's like everyone even has something against the state teams which is the BEST thing that has EVER happened to the town. Jealousy IS to blame, and the Administration IS to blame for allowing that to go on. And now we are left with no support for the teams now. Not from students and not from teachers, and Administrators come bc they get paid to go sit at the games. It really is a sad story...very unfair to those kids on the ball team this year. They deserve far better

I know SW is close to Oak Hill and play in the same conference, but that was a nice gesture by the players of Piketon. Whether it was a joke, lost bet, etc... They were still loud and supportive and that's all that matter to the 5 guys playing on the floor. I know for me (not even being from sw) I have gained respect for Piketon players and will cheer for them throughout the rest of their tourney run. C'mon sw students, get out and support your peers! Doesn't sw get a pep bus or anything for students? This needs to be worked on. High school athletics are unlike any other because of the school spirit (that should be) involved. Kids grow up together and the fact that they won't cheer for classmates just makes me sick. No school, team, or community deserves that. Hopefully it changes come Tuesday evening vs ND.
Wholly_Shnikeys - bring everyone you can to support Piketon, it would be appreciated.

It was no joke or lost bet. It looked like the Piketon players was just setting there and then a few South Webster kids came over (I mean just a few) and it looked the boys just joined in. I was setting around the corner from them and it looked like all of the kids were having fun, like kids are supposed to. It was hard not to draw you attention to them because it was so sad to see such a poor student section this far into the tournament. SW you have a very good basketball team and everyone should be proud, from the student support your getting it looks like your record was 4-18 in the regular season and I know you wasnt even close to that.

Go Streaks!!

Still don't know how you can blame the teachers, coaches and administration. They administration offered the pep bus. The other coaches are in the stands. All the sports teams get the same perks such as team trips, dinners and such. Your team makes it to regionals you get the charter bus.

I have talked to my kid that plays two sports at Webster and she said the kids don't go to the games because they just don't have the school spirit that the kids in the past do. Never heard any teacher or coach hint that kids shouldn't come out and support the teams. We have also seen it in other aspects of things going on at school. They want the good stuff but don't want to work for it.

The lack of school spirit from kid reflects from the lack of support from teachers. Teachers reflect from Administration. They are doing a POOR job organizing pep buses

Best of luck to the SW Jeeps, the door could be open for another Final Four Apperance for SW, and maybe even ND. One of them will have a shot, I am a little split, had a few of the SW kids in class while getting my degree and have friends on the ND staff. My gut sais SW wins though.

Digger you didn't have to mention you had a girl that played two sports, that was apparent by the immediate comparison of the girls team to the boys team. Funny, I thought the same thing about the girls games this year too. Hate it that all teachers are getting lumped together for this, if you are a teacher and been to the games I'm sure it is noticed. On the other hand ask your kids teachers all of them how many boys/girls games they have been to?? Not saying you need to be a die hard Webster fan but heck who's paying your bills?

I'm not gonna disagree about Webster folks being fair weather fans... The Reece years were rough to say the least

It is truly awful to blame Coach Reese for your fans. Any coach does the best he can with what they are delt.

Jeepoholic, I am not a teacher. I only mentioned my kid because it is not just the boys' basketball team that doesn't have a student fan base.

I do agree with you that the majority of teachers do not come out and support the sports teams. As the boys progress in the tourney they will start attending as "fair weather fans" and no, that's not right, but people are bashing them for the kids not coming out. Heck, SW has a hard time getting kids to come out for most of the varsity sports!

I didn't blame him? It wasn't his fault, just his era

We're trying to get a Pep Bus lined up for tomorrow nights game. Sadly, the last sign up sheet only had 4 names on it. As Administration, there's only so much we can do. Go Jeeps!
