Toland is just an average player. He was the fourth best player on his own team.

So from what I was told Fort Frye scrimmaged West M and Meadowbrook on sat. They won 6 out of 8 quarters winning 3 of 4 from each team. Played 8 players Legrean , Sr Anderson , Fr Anderson , Carter Kiefer , Madison. Along with Brooker, Klinger , and Niceswanger. From what I hear Freshman Justin Anderson was impressive and will most likely be and all varsity player. Last player to play no JV at FF was Tyler Engle. I hear Anderson could be the teams best outside shooter along with Devin Brooker. It will be interesting to see how this all pans out as I hear 4 football players are joining team Monday Chandler Lang, So Derek Layton, and 2 players that did not play last season in Zach Prittchard (6-3) player that played at Wood County and Sr Colton Shuster. It's going to be tough competition bc I doubt there will be enough mins for 12 guys.

I'm guessing klinger and Layton will play jv. Their games aren't very well rounded and could use one more year at j v to develop into their potential. Madison Pritchard Tyson shuster and brooker will be role players. All bringing a different aspect off the bench. Pritchard and Tyson bring great athleticism, shuster brings hard core defense. Brooker is a great shooter and Madison is a well rounded player with a big body. That leaves chandler both Anderson's Seth and carter as the starters. That's my opinion anyways

This year's PVC will very much have a top 4 and a bottom 3.

My take in order of finish:

Fort Frye: I can't agree with the poster that said they are a better team without Shon Smith. They will need to be more balanced obviously, but they will miss him offensively. Legrean is by far their most talented scorer and is a matchup problem for most teams in the PVC. Lang is a great defender. I do think the other top 3 teams give them all they can handle away from FF.

Buckeye trail: an absolutely tough team to figure out last year. They were either really good or really bad. If they feed Toland, they will be tough to matchup with as there is very little height anywhere in the league this year. It has to be this the year for them as all the talent leaves next year.

Monroe Central: Scooter will have them running and gunning. As always, his teams will shoot themselves into a couple of losses that they shouldn't get. There were some maturity issues last year and that could bite them this year as well. Very talented team that has a style of play that will cause trouble for teams with weak guards. I expect them with FF and BT to compete for the top spot at the end of the year.

Caldwell: very quick and athletic. If the young kids have improved, they will be a handful. Unless I'm forgetting someone their lack of height might prove a problem against bigger teams. It wouldn't surprise me at all is Caldwell beat any of the 3 teams above. I'm just not sure that they are experienced enough to beat those teams consistently.

River: They are super young with very little experience after losing all their top players from last year's run. Caught them at the Caldwell summer tourney and they surprised me a little. Their best years are ahead of them, but the 4 teams above likely get some revenge this year. I like their young kids. Will be interesting to see if they can figure out a way to compete by the end of the year.

Frontier: honestly, I thought their young kids should have played more varsity last year. I would have taken their JV over their varsity straight up. I think that lack of development hurts them this year though. Much like River, they are a year or two away from competing with the top 4. There is some talent there, just not sure there's enough.

Shenandoah: lost what talent they had. Don't see much talent there. I wouldn't rule out stealing a win from River or Frontier, but looks to be a long year for the Zeps.

I can't wait to get out and catch some of the better games. Anyone with some good matchups circled already, I'd appreciate the date and a heads up.

Just think Trail will be hurt with no guards. They struggle to slow the game down vs FF, Caldwell, and Central. As for River they had one of best teams in Hannibal history and still could not even win the PVC.

They won the District Championship, do you honestly think they are worried about not winning the PVC?

I wouldn't exactly say Caldwell is small. Weichman and Clark can be solid rebounders for their size. They'll also have Figel, Baker, and Leasure down low who range around the 6'2 or 6'3 mark.

You sure can tell you never played high school basketball, maybe not any sports.
The whole point is...it doesn't matter if Hiland was down or if D4 east was down to the River kids. They still won the District.
It didn't matter to them when they were cutting down the nets, it won't matter a year from now, or 10, 20 , 30 years from now...it will never matter to them.
...and when they talk about winning that District title however many years down the road, you can bet none of them will stop and think...all, but we didn't win the PVC.

Any attempt to minimize what River did last year is ridiculous. Let's go back 30 years and tell me how many PVC teams in boys basketball played in a regional game?

There were several very good seasons by PVC teams last year. Anyone of which would have traded places with River.

I won't discount what a good feeling it is to win your league championship, but no high school player worth a lick has that as their ultimate goal.

River beat a 2 win Rosecrans team by 5, a 6 win Bridgeport , a 10-12 Shadyside team and Hiland hardly anything to brag about still don't change the fact that River was 3-5 vs Fort Frye, Trail, and Monroe.

Fort Frye has been to regionals 4 times since 89. 89, 96 , 99, and 2006
