Both teams were 17% from the 3-pt line. Burg was 1/6, but Waverly was 3/18. Shot selection wasn't the best for Waverly either.

This was arguably the worst game I've ever seen at the Convo. Sloppy, sloppy play mixed in with atrocious shooting from the field AND free throw line. Wheelersburg is benefitting from the best draw in tournament history and now have to face a pretty decent team (who still is only a 5 seed). Crazy.

I watched this game and it had to be the worst game of the year for both teams. They could not make a basket and turn over after turn over. I thought Waverly should have made more of a inside game with the Chapman kid. He was no factor at all in the game. However a win is a win. Congrats Wheelersburg on the win.

you just summed up SE Ohio Basketball In One Sentence!! Sloppy, Sloppy play mixed in with atrocious shooting from the field and free throw line!! Yep, that sums up the year that I have seen. Hey, but keep on playing summer shootouts, AAU, etc... and play will surely get better. Wait teams already do that!!

Aau is nothing more than street ball. The art of shooting has completely disappeared. It's extremely bad.

I would like to see you go into a giant arena (larger than any gym), with no walls behind the backboard and shoot well the first game in the tourney. We told our Piketon kids to get to the rim as much as possible shooting in that place is tough. Piketon made 8 3 pointers, and only scored 49 points. Peakes length kept them from scoring easy buckets around the rim.

I thought burg was something like 21 for 27 from the line. 6 or more were down the stretch when Waverly had to foul.
Waverly was down 5 at the break and came back to lead by 2 at the end of three all the while missing at least 7 FT's in that 3rd period (maybe 8) and I think 2 of those were front ends. Make a decent % of those freebies and we have a totally different ball game beginning the 4th. The FT problems only continued for the Tigers in the 4th. I don't believe either Henderson made a trip to the line (best FT shooters on the team). I don't know if it was a strategy of the Burg to foul certain Waverly players in certain situations or not but it worked out nicely for the Pirates.

The Tigers return everyone but Garrett and have potential to be a very good team next year - BUT - they have to get way better at shooting the ball, especially improving at the line.

I have played there, and shot the ball just fine. Lets just call a spade, a spade....Neither Burg or Waverly was really any good. Hence the seeds they received in their Sectionals....Burg hasn't been able to score the ball all year long. Very offensively challenged. I'm going to take Ironton by 10-15 pts in this next game, even though the Ironton/Valley game was the 2nd worst game I have ever watched at the Convo. D3 basketball this year in our area is really, really bad...

Making excuses for the poor shooting isn't really justified. Sure, it's a different environment but come on.. if the rim is 10 feet a SHOOTER is going to be a shooter.

Fact of the matter is - kids simply don't shoot the basketball enough in the offseason. Whether it's AAU, being lazy, or sitting around playing on their phones too much --- KIDS JUST AREN'T GOOD SHOOTERS ANYMORE!

Basketball is changing in this area and in a way that I do not like.. I miss the old days where kids worked hard on their game, they knew how to shoot the ball, and weren't afraid to take charges to help their teammates.. The soft society has slowly began rubbing off on sports as well!

Its tough to even predict a winnner from the 4 teams left, but whoever it is will have a long night against the other region. Portsmouth plays zero defense, chesapeake has one offensive player, wheelersburg probably has the worst chance to win, ironton cant score. Really down year. If Rhoads can continue to stay hot, chesapeake will advance, if portsmouth plays defense they will advance.

I wasnt defending either team, just the fact that some say all shooters are getting worse. We Piketon have shot consistently in the mid to high 40% for the season from the field and 70+% from the FT line all season. Some of you have cataracts when remembering the good ole days! lol

Usually the first games at the Convo the shooting is poor. By the second games the shooters start to get their eye and teams score a little more. Portsmouth has the best offense of the remaining teams.Ironton crashes the boards hard and plays a nice defense. Wheelersburg as a #11 seed is the Cinderella. Their draw just opened up like the Red Sea and they took advantage. Chesapeake is probably the best team left in the SE district. I don't look for any of these teams to advance beyond the Convo this year. I expect one of the Columbus teams to come down here and basically have a free ride to the Schott. I hope I'm wrong.
