we must have been watching different burg teams in 2011PirateFan2 wrote:I don't think he should play varsity. Look how the greeno kid turned out.....he was a beast his freshman year and they had him play varsity and it hurt him physically AND mentally! seemed like he was scared the rest of his hs years????? lots of injuries that were brought on him mentally, unfortunately. holden will be fine as a freshman playing on the freshman team. next year he and other very good athletes that are freshman will be ready for the varsity level next year and work their way up to a state championship their junior or senior year!

your probably right in basketball, i can see Holden playing varsity basketball but not football
Re: Wheelersburg Pirates 2015 Season
I think Holden and J. Salyers could contribute out of this class. Although Holden is the taller of the two, Salyers also has the size and speed for a wide out. :122245 :122245 :122245

Im going to say Burg squeaks through with 8-2 unless we get the ball rolling on our side and then 10-0

The Burg will not beat Jackson this year. Take it to the bank :122246

Jackson pretty much has the same team as last year don't they???? That should make them more experienced and stronger! Can't wait to watch that game!!!

Jackson lost the following seniors:Jolly P(irate) wrote:I am gonna say 9-1. Jackson is LOADED.
- D1 Reagan Williams at LB and TE to Stanford
- 3 year starting center, guard and tackles Staten, Fairchild, Humphreys and company
- Bachtel at LB/DE and TE
- Griffiths and Rafferty at running backs that were responsible for well over half of our points most likely
- Causey at DT
- And several other key team role players that I just can't think of right now without a roster from last year
My understanding is there is a better than not chance a key junior from last year (that scored at least one TD I can remember against the Burg) will not play his senior year which will be a blow on both sides of the ball.
There are several other that will be juniors and seniors that have nursed injuries through last year's wrestling and baseball seasons. Just last week in summer basketball there was apparently or perhaps is a better word an ACL issue with a player that would have been a major contributor to this year's team as a junior. Couple of other issues as well.
Jackson has a lot of work to do to mold a team given the absence of that listed above. "Loaded" is not a word I would use given the above.
We had the benefit last year I think of "surprising" Burg. How quickly we forget the previous two years Burg thrashed us, and I have to think in the back of the Pirates kid's minds last year they just assumed it would be a similar result. Probably a game Jackson was up for and Burg was not up for and by the time everyone realized it it was too late. As a good friend of mine familiar with both programs said recently. Last year Burg was the hunted and Jackson was the one that had something to prove.
This year the roles are reversed...it will be a exciting Week 5 game here at Alumni stadium.

Excellent post, thanks for the insight. I agree, the halls had last years team prepared and they knew the burgs weaknesses and they were able to exploit them. That game helped the burg the rest of the season, they were able to correct those weakness after that game and had a good run. These Jackson kids in the upper 3 classes have all thumped the burg at the lower levels. Jackson will be a handful for any team in the area for years to come.doubleplay643 wrote:Jackson lost the following seniors:Jolly P(irate) wrote:I am gonna say 9-1. Jackson is LOADED.

Re: Wheelersburg Pirates 2015 Season
That's good to here about Jackson .....except for the injury and why isn't the junior that scored on Burg last year, playing this season???? I'm sure Burg will make sure NOT to take the ironmen lightly this year nor anybody else for that matter! with the young group of boys coming in this year, they will have to work really hard! and just like the ironmen, the Pirates are looking to get extremely better the next couple years and several years after that, all the way down to their 5th graders. Lots and lots of talented young boys and several good size boys as well!
Back to the jackson game...I'm thinking this game could go either way by week 5. Ironton is going to be a really tough game to play as well as Valley and West!
The SOC 2 Champion could be any of the three (BURG, west, or valley)

Valley, Burg, and West is no doubt a toss up. Could also be a 3 way tie, you never know in the SOC II.PirateFan2 wrote:That's good to here about Jackson .....except for the injury and why isn't the junior that scored on Burg last year, playing this season???? Re: Wheelersburg Pirates 2015 Season
Jackson has a ton of talent returning and waves of talent advancing through the program. They did lose some nice players but name a good team who doesn't lose seniors . Make no mistake Jackson is still a huge underdog against wheelerburg . Alota people said the only reason Jackson won last year was because Wheelersburg took them lightly. This group of seniors feels like they must beat them again to get any respect. The fire to win that game is still burning.
