Clay Willis hits a monster three for St Joe, but Isaiah Gunther with a layup on the other end and then hits a free throw, then Joe Akers gets a putback to give the Hornets a 67-60 lead with 1:47 to go in O-T

Sad display of sportsmanship. Gullion will have to sit out the next 2 games?mglight88 wrote:Minford defeated Wheelersburg on the road 60-34

Re: Tuesday 1/6/15 Menu of Games ...
I was elated to see the way Minford came out early, playing very unselfish offense and outstanding team defense, going up 20-2 at one point with every starter in the scoring column and hardly a bad decision on either end of the court. I saw no forced shots whatsoever! After the "play" everything changed. Have no problem at all with the play call itself (in fact was glad to see a set run to him) but also believe you never try to show up a team. Was frankly surprised about the chin up on the rim and what happened afterwards. Have no clue why it happened. But ultimately it was viewed as showing up the other team based on some discussions afterwards. Disappointed in Minford fan base for not recognizing they just lost a very vital part of the team I assume for 2 games as 4th and goal suggested. I want to believe it was not the intent of Minford's player but I don't think you treat the incident with disdain and with a rock star feel to it. Minford lost a starter for ? games!! Complete the play and act like you expected to do it. I'm not sure what the OSHAA rule is. I've never seen anything out of that player that would indicate he'd ever attempt to show up the other team, ever! But, whether it was the heat of the moment or the fact he was goaded by our student section the result is likely a hefty consequence for a team that had been rolling of late and for a player who has been nothing but respectful throughout his career. The ensuing game from Minford was all "me" play versus "we" play. Fortunately for them, they caught Wheelersburg playing worse than they were or they might have been in for a game. Countless 1 on 2, 1 on 3, forced drives to the basket, very little of the ball movement seen at the beginning of the game. Sloppy play by both teams the rest of the way. Things like that happen quickly and have consequences. Minford has a very good ball team. Unlike some, I have utmost respect for the teams in our conference. Respectful gamesmanship makes sports in Southern Ohio more interesting but I am certain this game will carry hard feelings for some time to come. Sometimes there are issues between the ADULTS involved that lead to such things. Coaches disliking other coaches or feelings scores were run up in the past. The games should be about the student athletes and I am not saying the adults were involved in any decisions but I've seen it happen in the past. To the credit of both teams, there were no incidents the rest of the game and the teams played a hard, albeit sloppy remainder of the game with good sportsmanship from what I saw. I am hopeful this is not a negative turning point in Minford's season but rather a chance to see other players step up and ultimately make for a stronger team heading into tourney play. As a lifelong sports fan, I am hopeful 4th n Goal and other Burg fans can dislike the act but not the actor. I also believe many Burg fans have seen the player involved in the play and know he is a quality young man and in my opinion had a lapse in the heat of the moment that he never intended to show up another team nor hurt his. That is my opinion having watched him several times over the years.4th n Goal wrote:Sad display of sportsmanship. Yes, after receiving two technicals.....one for rim chin up and another for raising jersey??? to Minford student section??? Was there but just didn't see the shirt thing as I was not looking towards him at that point
