My TVC wish for the new year!

Post by bullfrog93 »

In 2015, I hope to see the TVC vote unanimously to accept both Jackson and Warren under this plan:

TVC Football - 2 Divisions

OHIO

Athens
Nelsonville-York
Vinton County
Jackson
Warren
Wellston
Alexander
Meigs
River Valley

HOCKING

Trimble
Federal Hocking
Miller
Belpre
Waterford
South Gallia
Southern
Eastern
Wahama

The Hocking has had a minimum of three teams in the football playoffs every year since they became a 9 team division. They have been within the outcome of one game of having 4 teams make it every year. Every year this scenario exists. Lets give this same opportunity to the Ohio division.

Then, save our schools some money in travel costs the rest of the year by going to three divisions based on a combination of enrollment and geography. Another benefit would be easing the burden on baseball and softball to get all the league games in if the weather in a given spring doesn't cooperate:

Ohio - Athens, Jackson, Warren, Vinton County, Alexander, and Meigs

Muskingum - Federal Hocking, Trimble, Miller, Waterford, Nelsonville-York, and Belpre

Hocking - Southern, Eastern, Wahama, River Valley, South Gallia, and Wellston

There it is. I think this would work great. I cant wait to hear what the SEOPS naysayers have to say on this one......

I don'tcare for a 9 team division.
NY is a D6 school, why should they have to play Jackson every year in football?
I'm not opposed to playing Jackson every once in a while, but to make a small school play another big school because it looks good on paper is ridiculous IMO

It will never happen, so I'm gonna leave the whole expansion thing alone....

Then why is NY and Athens H.S. (Plus VCHS) in the same part of the TVC?

When is the last time somebody other than NY or Athens won the TVC in football? I would think the other 5 teams would hesitate to bring in a power and potential power.

I like one thing you have----I'd like to see different divisions in different sports. The Spring can be a bear in the Hocking (Coming from someone who has rode a bus from Miller to SG while hoping that it doesn't rain).

This would allow some of the teams to schedule up or down depending on the state of their program.

My preference is to leave everything as it is (I think this will be the outcome)----the Ohio and Hocking will get more competitive as time passes.

Belpre was the last to win an Ohio division title in 2007.

How many votes does it take to kill this? I see VC, ALEX, FED, and MILLER voting no for sure and MEIGS could go against it too.

Ask the coaches at Alex and VC if they want to trade a couple of this years victories for Jackson and Warren---I bet I know the answer.

When is the last time Fed beat any of the teams they are grouped with?

Miller is a for sure no if they have to drive by a non-league Trimble to reach all of their league games. They are competitive with Trimble in a lot of sports---football excepted.

Meigs doesn't play Jackson now so I don't see them wanting to add them or they'd all ready be on the schedule. Could be wrong here---I have no clue about Meigs.

Trimble and Wahama may not want to see any change.

Any truth to the TVC inviting Fort Frye to TVC?

I know their was some interest shown in having Ft Frye join when SG and Wahama came but I haven't heard anything about them lately.

They may vote to let them in then. What do you think? I wonder if it stays a 2 division league whether that would influence their decision?

When I researched NY football history, I read articles that showed Fort Frye was to be voted on about the same time NY was voted on to join by Warren, Vinton County, Federal Hocking, and Belpre. From what I could tell on microfilm articles, Fort Frye was voted into the TVC, but changed its mind and did not join after all. One article said that Fort Frye played a TVC baseball schedule in the early 70's, but that was the only sport, and I don't know if it counted in league standings or if FF simply scheduled games with all 5 of the TVC schools at the time. I wasn't even born back then, so all I have to go off of are old microfilm articles I read in Alden Library back when I was a student at OU.

NY played Fort Frye in football not long after consolidation, and beat Fort Frye in 1968, but lost the next three. That was just before NY started to turn into a winning football program.

1968 Nelsonville-York (A) 34-6
1969 Fort Frye (H) 18-14
1970 Fort Frye (A) 42-0
1971 Fort Frye (H) 35-7

Coincidentally, those games covered the same time period NY and Fort Frye considered joining the TVC.

There was a thread on here in the last couple of years where someone talked about that. As I recall, someone said that Fort Frye joined and then bolted but had to play out the two year schedule (at least as far as football is concerned). I believe they played a real TVC schedule in baseball in Spring '70 and then Fall '70 (same calendar year, different school year of course) would have been their first TVC football season. At the time that was on here, I went back and looked at my mom's yearbooks and found that FF did play two years of a TVC schedule (70-71 seasons would fit the timelime, but I can't remember those were the two years for certain) and it seems as though they actually would have won the league both years (if memory serves, they beat all TVC teams one year and lost one game the other year) had they remained in the league.

As for a FF move to the TVC now...I would have never expected it, but it seems the PVC is dwindling in membership so who knows whether they may either be forced to look for something else or be proactive before the league completely collapses. Apparently Buckeye Trail is leaving the PVC, which would put that league at just 5 teams. As far as I know, EasternDspy called this last spring sometime and it was called nonsense. It appears he was correct about the writing being on the wall. I don't know of many good options they'd have of expanding to the south of Noble/Monroe counties and someone posted on here that Barnesville's hang-up with joining was the long drive to FF. So, it may be mutually beneficial for FF and the PVC in general to part ways (FF gets in a bigger league/PVC can court more northern-ish schools).

The Fort would be a good fit in either division of the TVC. I hope they come in.

The Hocking is two teams too big now. The last thing we need is to add another team we cant beat. The old guard in Racine wants to get us to split the Hocking. We think we have the support of the young pups running the school. Just waiting on them to organize the votes to make it happen.

When you bring FF into the mix it reminds be that there was talk "Back in the Day" of Fort Frye, Waterford, Belpre, Federal, Eastern, and Southern forming a league---Parkersburg Catholic and Wahama weren't considered back then because the WV had girls basketball and volleyball swapped compared to Ohio.

I see things like this happening if we go to 3 divisions---once you start moving schools around it gets easier to break your league afflictions---look at the SEOAL--if you start adding and subtracting pretty soon you get results that you don' want.

If we get our wish, we will be in the SVAC division. Southern, eastern, SG, RV, Hannan, and Miller.

Hey swinger, you need to include Logan in the renaissance of SVAC. Remember, they have as many students per square mile as Hannan does. Let them in and they can quit pleading with the TVC to join.
