I'd like to thank Coach LaFon and ALL the folks at Ironton for hosting this tournament. A lot of work goes into running a classic like this, it just doesn't happen. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped behind the scenes doing things that does not get noticed.
On a side note, I'd like to see the area AD's and coach's get together and help host one large tournament. We have had several folks trying to get something going for the tri-state area. Several weeks ago, there was a tournament in Huntington that did not have a very good turnout, SSU had a tournament last week, we had the Ironton Classic this week and starting Friday, is the Wendy's Classic at Portsmouth. If these folks worked as a unit, I think the crowds would be better attended.
Some of these teams that have played in our area the past month have been top quality teams. We do not get to see that level of talent with the high school teams around here because many of these kids are going to be playing college basketball. This is not a slam on our kids but just a simple fact.
Thanks again, for bringing in some good teams. Looking forward to next year.

Feb.7, 2015 @ SSU----Huntington Prep (#6) in the country will play Bowman, Indiana-perennial power house in Indiana. There will be several local teams that will be playing there during the day. Get out and support this basketball talent that will be @ SSU.

I enjoyed the Ironton Classic, as I saw some good teams and players. Fairland impressed me with the way they battled Africentric, coming from about 20 down to cut the final margin to 10. The Dragons have about 6 freshmen on their roster, so FHS's future looks strong. I can bet that it will be a tough game for the Trojans when they travel to Proctorville in early January. Ironton's kids play hard, struggle offensively at this point of the season, but things will get better when the transfers are eligible. The Fighting Tigers came back against Spring Valley from a 39-19 halftime deficit to cut the lead to 45-38 with a chance to cut it to five.
On a side note, the French fries were outstanding!!

I hope that the next event at Shawnee State will have an all day pass ticket, which was not the case at the first Showcase on Dec.20th. I have been to many of these type of events, and they all have an all day pass for those that want to see a lot of teams play.
