Re: THE NEW LOOK OF THE NEW OVC 2015
Regarding South Point, Fairland, Chesapeake, Coal Grove, and Rock Hill. Certainly not very often in the last 50 years (if at all)... but it's not like Ironton has played any of those much in that span.noreply66 wrote:Does anyone know right off when a OVC team beat Ironton in football?...

Re: THE NEW LOOK OF THE NEW OVC 2015
the last I remember was a south point win over ironton back when dane Conwell was the running back at south point that went to west Virginia.i remember trying to tackle him in junior high and getting trucked by him. then he transferred to south point.i bet that is the last time, that would have been mid 70's.it was like 8-0 , if memory serves me correct.
Re: THE NEW LOOK OF THE NEW OVC 2015
With the problems recently at Fairland that were discovered I think "some" schools are now watching which kids transfer in and are " NOW" actually verifying addresses more than one time. I don't think this was done more than one time at some schools. AD's, principals, coaches and superintendents don't want to be caught red handed with transfers actually not living where they say they live.
With that being said I do feel sorry for the kid for listening to some adults who obviously didn't think it through and now he has to sit his senior year. The grass isn't always greener.

Good memory, bait. But I think Ironton won the game, by 8-0. First game of the 1975 season. You're Tiger Bait wrote:the last I remember was a south point win over ironton back when dane Conwell was the running back at south point that went to west Virginia.i remember trying to tackle him in junior high and getting trucked by him. then he transferred to south point.i bet that is the last time, that would have been mid 70's.it was like 8-0 , if memory serves me correct.

Portsmouth and gallipolis---------I have no idea.
but I'd say much more recent. gahs has been playing ovc teams fairly regular through the years, and Portsmouth has as well , and let's face it. the once powerful Portsmouth Trojans football team has been in a downward spiral for many years. hopefully the coaching change at Portsmouth will bring that program back into a fine football club again. I would love nothing more than to see all the ovc teams being prosperous in the future.i think basically everybody in the league has new facilities now.

Re: THE NEW LOOK OF THE NEW OVC 2015
I see no reason the league shouldn't get more competitive. I've seen a few years straight of better Cpeake teams in the early 2000s that would have had this league locked the way ironton and Pmouth have competed as of lately.
All the ovc schools will see a 1/4 jump or more in attendance and $ Prob in football. We will see an original OVC team (as it sat more recently) have a football crown in the next 6-7 years.
I firmly believe playing close teams, creates rivalry and atmosphere, that gets these dang kids off their ipad for two seconds, and want to be part of THIS. FOOTBALL.
GA and fairland
CG and ironton
The awesome ironton and Ptmouth
Peake and fairland
Basically the entire OVC wants a piece of ironton in the Tank, I mean come on.
And let's not forget how good the OVC can be in basketball.
And just to mention, this league is based around the "river cities"
Hunt high, Ashland, and ironton should play every year, river cities champion

Not the 03 Peake. Burg lost to Ironton that year and blasted C'peake in week 11.OVCfan32 wrote:I see no reason the league shouldn't get more competitive.
