… the committee has been looking at the "lists" , checking them twice - already have some teams that will "potentially jump" up the lists when the first installment of Pfloyd's Elite 8 is rolled out this Sunday … when teams move UP that means we have others who have not panned out in the early going dropping down the rankings … I've overheard the conversations among the members of the "committee of one" - me (talking to myself) teams impressing the committee include South Gallia, Alexander, Adena, Paint Valley, Unioto, Warren , Miami Trace, Chesapeake , Sheridan , Eastern Pike, Nelsonville York to name a few "name dropped" teams making a good impression on the committee …

… I will get to see my Elite 8 #1 as the Portsmouth Trojans visit the friendly confines of Jim's Gym tonight … trojandave, Biggdawg, Coach Collins with Kyre' Allison & Co will try to pick up win #2 vs the Purple …

93dog … sorry I couldn't get to Albany last night - a "bug" going around the school did me in … I did listen to the Spartans dismantle a less than average Huntington team on the radio however … got some strength back and heading out to LHS tonight to see PHS @ LHS … have to see if trojandave gets escorted out of Jim's Gym tonight ;-p

Pfloyd, I know everyone is guilty of thinking the world of their own kid and their team and I'm as guilty as any, but I was just about to say you might be overlooking our South Gallia Rebels who are off to a good start so I'm glad to see them mentioned! LOL maybe it's because we are so far down south? The Rebels pushed a good Peebles team to the brink in last years District final game and look to be improved with a nice rotation this season. Coach Howell has done a nice job with this team. First road game Friday at Fed Hock and Saturdays game at Gallia Academy will be the first time the 2 teams have ever played.

I would open my mouth and post something catchy and arrogant about Warren/Athens - but that didn't work out too well for me last time.

The Warriors are a great team!

Now pardon me while I got pick more crow out of my teeth, its been stuck up there since last Feb.

… npeifer - South Gallia WAS impressive in the "eye test" last season during the post season at the Convo … they definitely caught my eye …

I know it's hard to do at 0-2, but I think Logan should rise with their two performances thus far. The Unioto game was right going into the 4th and obviously they played Portsmouth very tight til the final horn.

Paint Valley was pulling away from Leesburg in the 4th in Bainbridge. Pfloyd, you'll love the line from Mason McCloy whenever it's finalized. He worked his tail off all night and posted a big time night. Leesburg has a couple of really nice young guards, they just couldn't compete with the size of the PV bigs.

daniC … great minds think alike - I was thinking the exact same thing driving home from the game tonight vs Portsmouth - that Logan WILL move UP the rankings even with the 2 losses … they played a very solid game tonight vs the Trojans … PHS scored only 4 baskets outside the paint tonight vs the LHS D - all in the 2nd half … 2 treys by Alex Dickerson were BIG turning the 1 point back and forth game into a 3- 5 point game for PHS giving the Trojans the separation they needed in the 4th quarter … it was Logan 49 Portsmouth 51 Trojan ball with :10.6 seconds to play … a couple Kendall Reynolds FTs and a Logan missed 3 ball ended it with Coach Collins' boys getting out of Logan with a "W" … Portsmouth 53 Logan 49 a final …

Pfloyd Napkin Stats - Portsmouth

Scoring … Kyre' Allison 14 , Kendall Reynolds 13, Sky Oliver 11, Alex Dickerson 6, Hunter Gibson 6, Ethan Leonard 1

3-pointers … 3/15 … ALL 3 were BIG threes giving PHS separation - Reynolds 2, Dickerson 1

FT's … 6/9

TO's … 14

Extra napkin stat … PHS hit 18 fgs inside the paint (all fgs in the first half were in the paint) … 4 fgs in the 2nd half were on the perimeter … PHS came out with pressure to start the 4th quarter forcing 3 straight turnovers that allowed PHS to hit a couple of big threes to open up the game giving Portsmouth leads of more than 1 possession … best of luck to the Trojans the rest of the way …

Pfloyd Napkin Stats - Logan

Scoring … Kevin Fisher 17, Lane Little 13, Isaiah Smith 8, Chance Cox 6, Sam Evans 3, Kory Henthorne 2

3-pointers … 2/15 … Isaiah Smith 1, Lane Little 1

FTs … 7/15

TOs … 18 …

… this was a game the Chiefs could very well have gotten the "W" … Fisher was held to 0 fg in the 4th, Smith was held to 0 fgs in the last 3 qtrs , Chance Cox was on the bench for more time than he was in the game for the 2nd game in a row AND THE PURPLE STILL HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET THE WIN - I like this bunch of Chieftains this season !!! I've seen 14 teams so far this season - my Purple would be in the top 4 even with an 0-2 record … Logan gave my Elite 8 numbers 1 & 3 all they wanted - Unioto for 3 quarters, Portsmouth for 4 quarters … pfloyd imo's so far Kevin Fisher will be a force to be reckoned with IF he keeps his game in the paint - leave the perimeter shots to the perimeter people … Chance Cox - foul trouble 2 games in a row - needs to "LET THE GAME COME TO HIM" - he is trying to force himself on the game … Logan NEEDS his outside shooting - Fisher NEEDS Chance Cox's outside shooting so he can be a factor in the 4ht quarter … Little, Baron, Smith, Henthorne, Sam Evans keep on keepin' on … as I said after game #1 vs Unioto - this is the BEST first 7 players with basketball talent that Coach Helber has had in his tenure at LHS …

… great to run into all of the Portsmouth fans led by trojandave & bigdowgg … always good to see folks who enjoy high school hoops as much as I do … you are right Dave when talking about PHS's Big 3 - Allison/Oliver/Reynolds a difficult trio to contain - not sure you can stop them, need to contain them and have an answer in the paint both offensively and defensively to be able to come away with the W against Coach Collins' team …

… I saw the Paint Valley score 77 - 68 over Fairfield Leesburg … PV is capable of putting up some numbers with that starting lineup for sure one of the better 5 starters you will find in SEO … throw in the upside of the freshman 6-9 Swingle and Mr. McCloy lots of pluses in their lineup … should be a great game Friday night with your Shermans daniC !!! … Unioto imo gets the nod with the "number" of talented players they can put on the floor going at least 8 deep … although you have a PV team that shot over 70% from the floor in their opener at ZT / 84% in the first half! - THAT trumps a lot of teams right there LOL … good game in the Land of the Shermans for sure - best of luck to both teams …

Quick stats for PV:

Mason McCloy 29 pts, 11 Rebs (felt like 20)
Clay Stratton 18 pts
Anthony McFadden 16 pts
Dylan Swingle 11 pts, 9 Rebs, 7 blocks

74 of their 77 points between those 4, mix in Clay Archer's toughness and it is a very formidable starting 5. Those 4 also combined for 67 of their 69 against Berne Union!

preety impressive 0-2 start for Logan, holding the Trojans to 53, and having a good chance to pull out the W at the end, that's all you can ask for.
Im excited to see the Trojans holding their first two opponents under 50 as well,Have a feeling that if they can continue that they could have a very special year.

pfloyd: Great to see you last night at Jim Myers Gymnasium..........your Chieftains gave our Trojans all they could handle..........despite being 0-2, Logan is a good basketball team that just happened to lose to two of your top 3 Elite 8 teams. It is always tough for PHS to come away from Logan with a W........and last night was no exception. You are absolutely right about Alex Dickerson two HUGE 3's that allowed the Trojans to get a little space on the scoreboard in the final frame. Coach Collins made a very good halftime adjustment defensively, as PHS held 6-8 Kevin Fisher in check the final 2 quarters, as he scored only 3 points. Fisher is a nice player with some good post moves and a nice touch. Portsmouth survived much of the second half with Sky Oliver in serious foul trouble, and I give the bench credit for their minutes in his absence. Hunter Gibson played a very nice game at both ends, and we will need it as the season progresses.

I know it's a small sample size right now, but as I told you after the game, I think the difference between Unioto and Portsmouth is that the Shermans are better offensively, while I believe the Trojans are better defensively. I am really excited to see the Red and Blue getting after it on the stop end of the court.

Also very happy to hear about your good health reports.
