Wrestling singlet

Post by punk rock rules »

Well I need to finally hit a topic that may spark some controversy but needs to be addressed at some point. Every year more and more kids are not wrestling because of the uniform. I know I'm not the only one that's heard this. Kids call them gay and they don't want anything to be sticking out for the world to see. I think it may be time that the uniform needs to be updated so that is a little more acceptable to all wrestlers.

WOW update a singlet so it is more acceptable???? Acceptable under who's terms yours???? Girls Volleyball wear very small tight spandex are those acceptable? It is a choice to wrestle main reason kids don't wrestle it is just way to tough and physically demanding.

there is a petition on facebook to get the singlets changed right now. Kids don't want to wear the traditional uniform anymore. And here is an article about the Olympic comitee even talking about changing the uniform before the start of the 2020 Olympics.

Not by my terms. Every year more and more kids just don't want to be made fun of, The Olympic committee is talking about changing the attire before the 2020 Olympics. And yes kids are not willing to try new things but if they know they will get picked on they will deifnetley not try it. As far as girls in tight spandex, no one is specifically degrading them for wearing them. If they did they wouldn't wear them either. Kids play sports by what is acceptable by their friends and peers acceptance. If they are perceived in a negative light in any way shape or form they are less likely to try a certain activity. People make fun of people for different reasons, and wrestling is a sport where almost everyday they are picked on because they are "gay" for rolling around with another guy. These type of negative words will deter any grown man away things much less middle school and high school kids. This sport is almost dead in the country and to keep it around flourishing people had better begin to wake up and do some changing or this sport will not be around much longer.

Wow very interesting article. Not sure what to think. I know at the Flo who's #1 they wear fighter shorts and a compression shirt. I love the fighter shorts idea. Some at who's #1 even took off their shirt and wrestled in just the fighter shorts. Be interesting to see what happens. I do think it runs off some wrestlers wearing a singlet maybe a change would be good????

Yes I think it would do great things for this sport. I do believe just shorts itself would change the whole view of it. Especially with the popularity of mma fighting wearing the "TOUGH" cage fighter shorts. This could make the sport appear more "tough and acceptable". I wore the singlet I never had a problem but with the low number of kids coming out we may have to change. Its like the old saying goes, "adapt or die".

go figure....kids on the track teams have been asking to wear singlets these days........i think the uniform might just be an easy out rather than an im not doin it because it is too tough. that being said im not opposed to the mma tight shirt and shorts. but the old cotton too loose singlets have come a long way and in my opinion are not anywhere near as bad as they used to be, but the old excuse still lingers since it has worked well enough to get the kids that just dont want to left alone
