Ironton tied with Portsmouth in scoring 21 on Jackson, but Ironton's 12 point deficit was closest all year anybody came to Jackson.

I was getting ready to say the very thing that cannon just did. we played them closer than anybody else. but actually at the end of the game Jackson was on like our 2 yard line, and went to the sidelines. same thing we did for raceland the week after.

and as burg grad says both teams dang well better be better to get this far. generally week 12 is the separation point. in some recent years ironton has been so beat up by playing the teams they play , they limp into the playoffs like a mash unit. ironton is reasonably healthy coming into this game. and I assume burg is as well.

everybody at this point in the season has ailments even non starters. because they have to do battle with these highly ranked teams all week in practice. this is the time of year where depth, or lack of may be the single biggest factor in moving forward.

Punch in the mouth early? That may be, Pirates will not stop what they have been doing the last 6 weeks with their Run Defense... Ironton will have to throw to get any postive yardage...

Good post DP. I think we can all agree with what you said. The one thing these Ironton posters are forgettong is that the cooler weather will help both squads in the hurry up scenario. To say they will be able to keep up more now is misleading. Especially when they are running a power set and jump back on the ball. And sometimes they jump back on the ball in a spread formation. Burg will let Ironton pick their poison. You can't load the box because they will throw on you and you can't pull guys out because they will run it right at you. What to do, what to do? Ironton will have to figure that out before Saturday night to have a chance.

Well Burg will be playing catch up so it will be easy to know that they will be in passing formations most of the night.

It will be the little things that add up to make a big difference in this game I think.

For Ironton no 15 yard personal fouls to swing field position. If Ironton is even or gets up by a field goal or TD, then they must grind out the clock, wait till 5 seconds left on play clock, don't step out of bounds, no procedure calls to get inverted on down and distance. Special teams play to keep field position or kicking a field goal instead of going for it on 4th and 1 at the 20 or so. Obviously no turnovers on a cold night will be huge. Just small things like that add up to increasing the odds in a close game exponentially in a match-up like this for Ironton.

On the Burg side I see it a little different, they have more of a gunslinger attitude or swagger. If they get up a score, they will go for the jugular lol, an Ironton turnover will result in Burg attempting what I refer to as trying to roll snake eyes (dice) and look for them to attempt a play immediately to really swing momentum. Once Burg gets momentum everything changes. They get a couple score lead and they may go to a power run game to chew up clock.

I think this one has the makings of an instant classic lol, and congrats to Portsmouth for getting to host. You will make a fortune in concessions...any predictions on attendance? Is 5,000 about right? What does everyone think?

I would not pay 9 dollars to watch a playoff game and have to stand. What was the state thinking!

1. In burg vs Jackson they had not implemented a power running game, and one of their bigger lineman was out. Not that it would have changed the outcome but the score may have.

2. Personnel and scheme change. Burg has changed the way their defense is because of a returning player and it has paid off

3. The loss of Sherman is bad. I hate that a team in the playoffs has to adjust on the fly. I feel bad for the kid. The tigers will have to rely on another kid to step up and fill the void.

Here's to a clean injury free game.
excuses for the jackson game ?????? come on

The Burg vs Jackson game was a blow out ... I tip my hat to the Jacskon Team , they had a great game plan and had the athletes to win ... The Burg was in the red zone not 3 not 4 , but 5 times and could not convert on 4th and ones.. They simply Did not execute.. When a Team gets pounded like this Jackson game, there are only 2 ways a Team can respond ..Fold or learn from this game and get better.. The Burg has learned and they have improved.. More physical and more Mentally prepared.. Burg vs Ironton week 1 , 42-16 , well this game does not mean anything for week 12... I believe Ironton has improved since (week 1)... However I know that they Burg has improved since (week 5).. At the end of the day , it does not matter what everyone on the thread thinks.. It does matter waht the boys playing think and believe that does matter... This Burg team WILL NOT take Ironton lightly... They have proven that their Run Defense is Stellar... Stoping a dominant rushing Team like Liberty Union to a minus 8 yards rushing was not by accident... I did not see The Burg winning 42-3 last Saturday , and completly dominating this game either... I see the Burg getting ready and prepared for another tough game this Saturday and a very good Ironton football Team.. As always any Team that Plays the Burg will bring their Best.. Because everyone want to beat the Burg...

Do you think the capacity at Nelsonville is any more than Portsmouth? Just because the game is closer and more easily accessible to people who would like to watch it, the attendance will be higher. If the game would have been in Nelsonville, there would have been less fans in attendance, so the OHSAA made the right call and will make more money as a result. Also, Portsmouth will make a killing off of parking and concessions (ie. coffee and hot chocolate), so it is a win-win for everyone local. Also, the local restaurants like the Ribber will be packed Saturday evening. Would you rather the game have been at Hamilton Twp? Chillicothe?

If you read the rules for hosting a playoff game the Portsmouth stadium does not meet it on 2 of the main rules. Seating (unless) they bring seats in and parking which we all know is bad at best. No I would never want to take money away from the people in Southern Ohio but still a bad call by the sate.

I will give you the parking, but it is probably similar to what Jackson fans will face at Chillicothe as well. Seating I believe is a wash as compared to Chillicothe, Nelsonville or Hamilton Twp. Temperatures in the 30s will keep enough people away that I believe that those who want to sit, will be sitting and there will be just enough room for everyone. I am sure it will be a great atmosphere, but attendance won't be over 4,000

Maybe they can build a lean-to over the visitor's side to make the Ironton fans feel like home! I am glad our canon is mobile now, so it can travel with the team.

I'm pretty sure there are a lot of high school football fans whose team didn't make it to week 12 that'd love to switch places with ya.
