Re: Week 9 Northwest at Oak Hill
If Northwest wins an announcement should be made immediately afterwards, on the field, that they are henceforth moved back to the SOCII!! Why didn't Portsmouth just move to the SOCI instead of the OVC? They're the same size. You shouldn't be rewarded for incompetence. A D5 school with over 200 boys shouldn't be in the SOCI. Get back where you belong and compete at the level you should be competing at not beating up on schools that have only 20% of your attendance.
O.K. I feel better. I am happy for the boys to get a taste of success. They can't control what league they're in.
Congrats on the great season Northwest.

I like the excitement that is happening in the Northwest McDermott community!!!! I just may have to eat my words about what I had to say during the Minford week.
You have the opportunity for a 7-3 season, an outright SOC I trophy, and a chance to get into the playoffs! Best of luck to the Northwest Mo'Hawks!

Re: Week 9 Northwest at Oak Hill
They have no chance to get in the playoffs. They had a good year and winning an SOC championship is exceptional. But even if they win out. They will not get in. Too many teams in front of them. And if they did get in, it would be very ugly. At best, they would be on the road to Hartley. That would be very messy.Vladimir wrote:I like the excitement that is happening in the Northwest McDermott community!!!! Re: Week 9 Northwest at Oak Hill
Someone seems to be a little angry their team lost to Northwest this year? No one complained when Notre Dame, East, and other small division schools were beating Northwest. The league allows them to move (which I assume had to be voted on?) and now all of a sudden people complain about school size. There will be a day again when NW is down. Will fans complain then? NO.Old Bulldog wrote:If Northwest wins an announcement should be made immediately afterwards, on the field, that they are henceforth moved back to the SOCII!! I would love to see the overall records against the other SOC I schools.
I also believe Portsmouth should move to the SOC. They play many of the SOC II teams and they were beat by Valley, West, and Burg in football this season.
Congrats to the Mohawks on your SOC title.

Not angry about losing to them. The teams I root for didn't play them. I don't like having the SOCI teams not playing on a level field. It's like Logan or Chillicothe joining the SOCII. They would lose occasionally but they would have a definite advantage over the rest of the league with so many more boys in the school system. There is a reason the state has so many divisions in football because size does matter. * Though only in football I'm told. :122249

Jorge Sandusky wrote:Northwest probably doesn't have a shot at the playoffs, but what a successful year for the program. You always have haters on facebook and in the community talking about how they dropped to the smaller SOC, but its funny how everyone forgets that Valley did the same thing back in the 90's cause they couldn't compete in the soc 2. Now look at Valley's program. GO MOHAWKS !!!!!!!!!
Absolutely not true.
The SOC Split into two divisions in 1980 and Valley was sent to Division one with Green, East, and Notre Dame. Valley was coming off a 6-4 season in 1979 in which they went 3-4 in the "single division" SOC with wins over New Boston, Northwest, and East.
So no, "Valley not competing in the 90"s" is no where near the truth.
Re: Week 9 Northwest at Oak Hill
And currently, Valley is the smallest school in the SOC2, and smaller than 2 schools in the SOC1.Crab's brother wrote:Jorge Sandusky wrote:Northwest probably doesn't have a shot at the playoffs, but what a successful year for the program. Re: Week 9 Northwest at Oak Hill
Valley couldn't have competed in the SOC II in the early days. They never beat Burg or West in the 80's and quit playing both by 89 and 90 respectfully. I know they beat Minford some and don't recall if they played Waverly any during the 80's. In the 80's Notre Dame ran the SOC I for the most part with East andCrab's brother wrote:Jorge Sandusky wrote:Northwest probably doesn't have a shot at the playoffs, but what a successful year for the program. Green also winning titles. Can't recall if Valley won a league crown in the 80's but would guess no. I'm sure someone will correct me. Point is, Valley re-established their football program by winning the SOC I all those years in the 90's and laid the ground work for the logical move to SOC II and have been a force ever since.

I am not arguing that point at all. But Valley did not "pull a Northwest" because they couldn't compete. That was the only point I was making.
And yes Valley did win back to back SOC titles in 84 and 85.

I'm sorry but I have to agree with a lot of what this guy is saying. I know people in NW and I'm glad that they are winning games and enjoying success, but I just don't agree with how it was done.Old Bulldog wrote:If Northwest wins an announcement should be made immediately afterwards, on the field, that they are henceforth moved back to the SOCII!! Crabs, thanks for the info on the 84 and 85 SOC titles, I wasn't aware. We're those outright or shared?

We are happy with where we are for now. I bet if Northwest is winning for a couple years this will be reevaluated. We have taken some real beatings for 50 years and have administered very few. I for one would love to repeat Valleys history. Keep in mind that 5 wins isn't destroying the competition. Good luck to my Mohawks and the rest of our local teams.
Northwest 27-21. Winning field goal by Dylan Amburgey from 35 yds

So 2 field goals in a game isn't possible. Really you guys should get a life.
