Week 7: The Rivalry Renewed- Vinton County @ Federal Hocking

Post by Dundas »

Vinton County and Federal Hocking have a history dating back to 1969; when they were two of the 4 teams that met in Stewart to create the Tri Valley Conference. The Vikings and Lancers were also newly consolidated High Schools in the late 60's which is just one of a few similarities in the two schools. The other major similarity is Coach Jeff Downs. Coach Downs led VC to their second ever playoff appearance in school history and a few years later led the Lancers to their first ever TVC Championship and playoff appearance in school history. This series lasted from 1969 through 1992, or until the TVC split into the Ohio and Hocking divisions we know today. The two teams have not played a football game since, even though they regularly play in most every other sport. The series was dominated early on by Fed Hock but turned more in VC's favor in the 1980's before the final game in 1992. The Founding Member Rivalry continues....

Series History..

VInton County leads the all time series with 16 wins and 7 losses. VC won the first ever match up between the two but Fed Hock followed that with 6 wins in the next 8 meetings. The Vikings have won the last 10 in a row from 1983-1992.

1969 Vinton Co. 46-25
1970 Fed Hock 44-0
1971 Fed Hock 8-6
1972 Fed Hock 36-20
1973 No Game
1974 Vinton Co 12-8
1975 Vinton Co 19-6
1976 Fed Hock 26-12
1977 Fed Hock 14-6
1978 Fed Hock 18-8
1979 Vinton Co 28-7
1980 Vinton Co 37-20
1981 Vinton Co 14-12
1982 Fed Hock 8-0
1983 Vinton Co 7-6
1984 Vinton Co 21-0
1985 Vinton Co 14-7
1986 Vinton Co 37-0
1987 Vinton Co 31-0
1988 Vinton Co 12-0
1989 Vinton Co 37-0
1990 Vinton Co 57-0
1991 Vinton Co 55-0
1992 Vinton Co 35-0

Vinton County is 7-5 @ Federal Hocking winning the last 5 games in Stewart. Also, the Vikings have a 7 game scoreless streak against the Lancers.

Take these historical stats for what they are worth. Its been over 20 years since these two have played and a lot has changed since then! Both teams come in to this game at 0-6 and one will leave with a mark in the win column. Good luck to the Vikings this week and the Lancers the rest of the way.

loser could go 0-10, but Fed Hoc does have Miller next week.
By looking at Miller's schedule Vinton County should schedule Hannah West Virginia next year.

No contest for Vinton County. They win this one. They really have had a rough way to go this year. Have came so close several times, so the kids really do need something good happen for them and it will.

I'm gonna walk out on a limb here and say the Vikings win three of their final four. I think they'll beat Fed Hock this week, and finish beating River Valley and Wellston. Wouldn't be too successful of a season, but they would finish positive and have something to hit the weights for over the winter.

Can't hardly believe this one isn't the game of the week on the radio.

Da Bears... I could see that happening. BUT I could also see this team dropping the remaining games. They have to prove that they can finish off a team when they're in a position to. Last year was the same way. Imo, this squad lacks that "killer instinct".

I guess we will see how it plays out Dundas. I just think that the Vikings could really be 3-3 right now. However, as Bill Parcells says, "you are what your record says you are". I just think that they will get a win this week, get some confidence, and finish the season out on a positive. Good luck to all teams and stay healthy. Meeting two former coaching buddies in Columbus tomorrow and going to the Marion Local/Coldwater game.

Vinton County comes away with a 24 point win!

Should be a sloppy game though.
